BOYS & GIRLS CLUB Of
Greater Waterbury
Annual Report 2018 – 2019
Our Mission
By providing a wide range of educational and recreational opportunities, a safe environment, and supportive relationships, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Waterbury helps young people who need it most discover their interests, have a positive outlook for their future, and be confident, successful stewards of their communities.
Our vision
• Our programs will positively impact the lives of those we serve and will
be based upon evidence-based best practices in youth development. We will be viewed as offering progressive and innovative opportunities for Club members.
• Our youth members will be supported and encouraged by their caregivers who are engaged in the Club and able to participate in their child’s success.
• Our facilities will be experienced as top-notch, welcoming, and safe by all who visit our Club.
• Our organization will be viewed positively by the public and will be supported by a wide range of donors, funders, and supporters both in the Waterbury community and beyond.
• We will continue our investment in our staff to expand and cultivate their skills through professional development and expanded opportunities for contribution to our organization.
• Our organization will be led by a passionate, engaged group of Board members, who act as ambassadors for our work and are reflective of the diverse communities we serve. We have created a pipeline of future Board members who are interested in serving on our Board.
• Our organization will be financially sustainable with a sizable endowment to support our work now and for many days to come.
A message from our chair
This past year, the Board of Directors and staff of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Waterbury adopted an Extension Plan 2019 – 20 of its Strategic Plan to continue the work of strengthening the Club in its entirety and to remain focused on the important work done at the Club. New Board members have joined these efforts to create a more effective team. Continuing their efforts to better serve our youth, all staff participated in professional development programs, including a three-day training offered by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Staff and board also gave specific attention to safety at the Club. All staff participated in abuse prevention trainings and improvements were made around the building. The Board led Safety Committee will continue these very important efforts. Through these trainings and regular staff meetings, staff became more effective teachers, role models and leaders. Staff changes resulted in a stronger team serving our members and families. Club programs and partnerships continued to develop and to provide exciting programs to members. The Club’s partnerships with ShopRite of Waterbury, Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, Girls Scouts of Connecticut and Youth Health & Collegiate Health Service Corps at UCONN continued and grant funding allowed for exciting enrichment programs with Flanders Nature Center and the Connecticut Science Center. The staff and Board look forward to continuing to serve Waterbury’s youth by providing a wide range of educational and recreational opportunities, a safe environment, and supportive relationships. We appreciate your support as well.
