Dear members,
On behalf of the Executive Council and on my personal behalf, I extend to you all a very warm welcome to this Annual General
Meeting. I have the pleasure in presenting this Annual Report of Presidency Alumni Association, Calcutta, for the year 2018-2019.
Membership
The overall membership strength of the association now stands at 4769 as compared to 4686 in the last year as on date.
Income
The Association is now registered u/s 12A of Income Tax Act donation made to Presidency Alumni Association
Calcutta of conditions laid down in clauses (i)
to (v) of sub-section (5) of section 80G of the IT Act, 1961 with e -08-2016 as issued by the Commissioner of Income Tax
(Exemptions), Kolkata. All alumni are requested to donate for strengthening the activities of the alumni association.
Activities of the Association
1. ENDOWMENTS
The following endowments are continued. Sm. Dalia Datta has donated Rs. 1 lakh in memory of her father the late Shri Satyabrata Ghosh.
From the endowment two prizes will be given to students who score the maximum marks in Physics (Part II) and Physics (Part III)
examinations respectively. Shri Gopendra Nath Roy has donated Rs. 30,000 in memory of his late father Shri Balai Charan Roy, from which
one prize will go to the student who scores the maximum marks in M. Sc. Physics. Shri Sisir Kumar Mazumder has created an endowment
of Rs. 1 lakh for oration on Science and Humanities. Sm. Swapna Roy had created an endowment of Rs. 1 lakh in the year 2014 in memory
of her husband the late Shri Sumit Roy, alumnus, from which one prize will go to the topper in B. Sc. Biological Science. Shri Prasanta Pal,

alumnus, has created an endowment of Rs. 15,000 in memory of his late father-in-law Shri Panchanan Pal from which one prize will go
to the highest marks holder in the Sc. Mathematics. Dr. Amarnath Dey, alumnus, created an
endowment of Rs. 50,000 in memory of his late father Shri Anathnath Dey to provide a cash prize to the student securing highest marks
in M.Sc. Mathematics (Pure). Sm. Nandita Dasgupta has created an endowment of Rs. 3 lakhs in memory of her late husband Shri
Sudhansu Dasgupta, alumnus and ardent debater, for instituting annual inter college/university debate competition in the name of
Sudhansu Dasgupta Memorial Debate. Sm. Sanghamitra Mukherjee has donated Rs. 1 lakh in memory of her late parents and alumni Shri
Ramani Mohan Ghoshe and Sm Kamala Moni Basu, from which a gold medal will be given to the highest scorer in B.A. Philosophy.

2. AUTUMN ANNUAL
On the occasion of the Founders’ Day celebration, the 47th volume of the Autumn Annual, under the Chief Editorship of Sm. Nabaneeta
Dev Sen and Editorship of Shri Sugata Marjit was released on 20 January 2019. The Association expresses its gratitude to all those who
3. ALUMNI TRUST FUND
The Presidency Alumni Trust has been created for supporting various developments of the university and providing prizes to the
university toppers in arts and science in undergraduate courses. The trustees have reported that so far Rs 4,65,885 has been collected
from the donations. All alumni are requested to donate to the trust.
4. PRESIDENCY vs St Xavier’s ALUMNI EXHIBITION D
The Presidency versus St Xavier’s Exhibition debate was held on 22 September 2018 at 6 PM. The venue of this grand exhibition debate
was hosted by Calcutta Club and followed by high tea sponsored by Sm Nandita Dasgupta wife of alumnus late Sudhansu Dasgupta.
Motion of the debate was - Bengal lives in its past. The speakers for team Presidency were Shri Saugata Roy, Shri Rudrangshu Mukherjee,
Sm. Anita Agnihotri and Sm. Moyuree Mukherjee. The speakers for team Xavier’s were Dr. Kunal Sarkar, Dr. Sandip Chatterjee, Shri Ashok
Vishwanathan, Shri Priyam Marik. The moderators were Shri Somak Ray Chaudhury and Shri Pradeep Guptoo.

the vote of thanks. The motion was passed by the audience poll. The debate was partially sponsored by Sister Nivedita
University and Sudangshu Dasgupta Memorial Debate Fund and the media partner was The Telegraph.
6. PRE-P C
Presidency Alumni Association celebrated AGOMONI on 8th October 2018, with the little friends from NGO Refuge, 5pm
onwards at The Refuge, Bowbazar. The programme included a dance recital by Sm Kathakali Jana, a recitation by Sm Shromona Ghosh
and a shruti natok by Shri Bibhas Chakraborty, Shri Subir Mukherjee, Sm Kathakali Jana, Sm Shromona Ghosh, Shri Mainak Sengupta and
Shri Bibaswan Basu. Shri Biswarup De, EC member, hosted the event.
7. DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS A
The Atul Chandra Gupta (ACG) Distinguished Alumnus Award Endowment fund has been created with the donations of Shri Parthasarathi
Sengupta, Shri Saktinath Mukherji, Shri Animesh Sen, Shri Subir Dutta and Shri M K Chaudhury in the honour of Atul Chandra Gupta, the
distinguished alumnus every year. The Award for 2019 was conferred
to Dr. Bimal Jalan on 20 January 2019 by Sm Nabaneeta Dev Sen , President.
5. PAST VS PRESENT FOOTBALL M
Past Vs. Present Football match was held at Town Ground, Kolkata organized by the Presidency
Alumni Association. Shri Samar Banerjee and Shri Arun Ghosh two eminent footballers of yesteryear were felicitated before the match.
The past team won the match by 2-1. The present students and alumni members thoroughly enjoyed the match.

SEMINAR
A seminar on ‘Rabindranath and Nationalism’ was held on 24 November, 2018 at 6 pm at Bangla Academy Nandan Campus. Two eminent,
speakers, Shri Jawhar Sircar, former CEO, Prasar Bharati and Shri Amrit Sen, Professor of English, Visva - Bharati enthralled the audience
with their insights into this interesting topic. The seminar was moderated by Shri Swapan Dutta. Sm. Manashi Roy welcomed the audience .

10. FOUNDERS’ DAY C
The 202nd Founders’ Day was jointly celebrated in grand scale with Presidency University in association with The Telegraph on 20 January
2019 at Derozio Hall. Shri Bikash Sanyal, alumnus, was the Chief Guest and Shri Bimal Jalan, alumnus, delivered the Founders’ Day address.
Sm. Anuradha Lohia, Vice Chancellor welcomed all participants. The Autumn Annual was released and the ACG distinguished alumnus
Award 2019 was conferred to Shri Bimal Jalan by Smt Nabaneeta Dev Sen, President.
11. STEAMER PARTY
The much awaited and demanded steamer party was held on 27 January 2019 cruising whole day on Hooghly river with food, fun and
frolic as a part of Founders’ Day celebration programme in association with The Telegraph.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication
Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project with IIT, Kharagpur to develop a framework
of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. NDL India is designed to hold content of any language and
provides interface support for leading Indian languages. It is being arranged to provide support for all academic levels including
researchers and life- -abled learners. Alumni Association had
executed an MoU with the National Digital Library of India for digitization and uploading in NDLI website of all publications published/
under perpetual possession of the association. The dissemination policy is under preparation.
9. PAST VS PRESENT C M
The cricket match between the past and the present students of the University was held at the Presidency University Ground on 19 January,
2019 a part of Founders’ Day celebration programme in association with The Telegraph . The Past team won the match. Shri Jayanta Mitra,
handed over the trophy to the winning team.
12. REMEMBRANCE
The Council on behalf of all the members of PAA deeply mourns the sad demise of our deceased alumni.
13. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The overall performance of the Association during the year 2018-2019 has been satisfactory. I take this opportunity to express my sincere
thanks and appreciation for the unstinted support and cooperation extended by the Executive Council and above all, the members of the
Association and other well-wishers. I also thank our bankers and auditors for their support. I would also like to express my appreciation
for the university who extended their constant cooperation. Our Dilip da (Shri Dilip Roy) is always a source of inspiration for running

We have audited the accompanying financial statements of Presidency Alumni Association, Calcutta,a Registered Society under West Bengal Societies
Registration Act 1961("the Society"), which comprise the Balance Sheet as at 31st March 2019, and the Income & Expenditure Account and Receipt &
Payment Account for the year ended on that date, and notes to the financial statements, including a summary of significant accounting policies and
other explanatory information.
In our opinion and to the best of our information and according to the explanations given to us, the aforesaid financial statements give a true and fair
view in conformity with the accounting principles generally accepted in India,

Notes forming part of the financial statements
1 Significant Accounting Policies
1.1 Basis of accounting and preparation of financial statements
The Financial Statements have been maintained on double entry system adopting accrual basis of accounting. Financial Statements are prepared in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including Accounting Standards followed in India to the extent applicable.
Preparation of the financial statements are in conformity with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles requires the management to make estimates and assumptions that affect the reported amounts of assets and liabilities on the date of financial statements and reported amount of revenues and expenses for the period. Estimates are based on assumptions that management believes are reasonable under the circumstances.
1.2 Revenue recognitionGrant received from Government as well as from non-government organization has been recognized as income to the extent of the revenue expenditure made during the period and the unutilized balance is shown as a part of the general fund.Unutilized portion of Earmarked Grants have been shown separately in the Balance Sheet.
1.3 Fixed AssetsFixed Assets acquired have been valued at cost including all direct costs i.e., purchase price, transportation expenses, installation charges and other expenditure incurred for bringing the fixed assets in working condition, including expenditure incurred prior to its first use. Memorandum records are maintained to exercise physical control over the assets.
1.4 DepreciationDepreciation has been charged on the fixed assets under the Income Tax Act, 1961 in the financial statements.
1.5 Valuation of StocksMaterials acquired for program are charged as expenditure at the time of payment. Closing Stock of finished goods are valued at Cost or net realizable value whichever is lower.
1.6 Capital GrantCapital Grant is treated as deferred grant income in the Balance Sheet and recognized as income on systematic basis over the life of the related asset.
