partner for advice, leadership, and facilitation of charitable giving.

A New Canaan that comes together to address both individual and

local challenges, enriching the lives of all community members.

community-wide issues that affect New Canaan.

• A record number of individuals, families, and organizations supported the

Foundation’s work in the community – more than 1,300!

• More than 175 volunteers mobilized to bring our mission to life. As a

result, the Foundation was able to distribute $1.3M in grants to nonprofit

organizations, including $650,000 invested in 80 local nonprofits vetted

through our annual grant cycle, and almost $170,000 in scholarships to

local students.

• Our assets grew to nearly $19M, including an ever-growing family of

donor-advised funds – helping residents give strategically to causes

they care about.

• Donors, community partners, and nonprofits partnered with us to

create a new strategic vision for the Foundation, building upon the

strengths of our 40-year history to increase our impact.

We are so excited to grow this work with you, and look forward to

hearing your feedback.

This year I served as Co-Chair of the Foundation’s

Spirit of New Canaan Luncheon.

We were fortunate to honor Meg Domino, Kathie & Leo Karl, Jr., and Chris Schipper. They

are a remarkable group of New Canaan residents who exemplify this “spirit” – a special

combination of generosity, compassion, and determination to make their community a

better place. We also had the honor of recognizing Tom McLane, representing the

Foundation’s founding board, on the occasion of the organization’s 40th anniversary.

I was so proud to be a part of this inspiring event that embodies what the

Foundation is for our community – a conduit for positive change, a gathering place

for people who want to make a difference, and a vehicle for creating local impact.

My name is Grace and I am the founder of The Pediatric Gastrointestinal Illness Foundation, a charitable fund housed atthe New Canaan Community Foundation.

After overcoming Gastroparesis, a rare

gastrointestinal disease, I felt compelled

to help other children who are battling

serious and debilitating gastrointestinal

diseases. The Foundation guided me

through the process of opening and

managing a fund to achieve my

philanthropic goals. In turn, I was able

to raise significant awareness for a cause

I am so deeply passionate about. The

Foundation staff suggested fundraising

ideas, helped me create a donation page, and advised me throughout the grantmaking

process. The Foundation is an extremely valuable community resource that is so willing

to help kids like me reach their philanthropic goals. I am so thankful every day that I

found the Foundation. I couldn’t have done it without them!

Beyond the funds we receive, however, the Foundation has an even broader impact to our

organization. We appreciate the opportunity the Foundation provides us to see familiar

faces, meet new people, brainstorm and collaborate. The Foundation’s support has led

us to several significant partnerships: with Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, leading to the

historic collaboration bringing them to New Canaan for the first time to perform for the

Nutcracker Ballet at NCHS; with Inspirica, whose families we have proudly been serving as

guests at our Nutcracker Benefit for years; and, most recently, with the Carver Center to

expand our arts education outreach programming by providing summer ballet classes.

The work of the Foundation ripples beyond and provides us all increased

opportunities to enrich the people and communities around us.

donor-advised funds, a simple vehicle for doing

your charitable giving. You can name a cause or

an interest, or be flexible with your family’s giving.

Gift cash, publicly traded securities, closely held stock,

private foundation assets, and more. Receive the tax

benefits in any year that you add to your fund, and then

be free to spend your charitable dollars over time.
