Dear IFAI Members,Welcome to the fi scal 2020 Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) Annual Report. A year ago, I’m sure none of us could have imagined the disruption of the last several months. We didn’t know about COVID-19 nor the signifi cant impact it would have on our industries. Overnight, almost all of us were working from home, then forced to become familiar with pivoting, social distancing, personal protection equipment (PPE) and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
IFAI is your Association. We exist to provide value and meet the needs of our member companies. Since March, your needs changed quickly. You told us what you needed, and we changed course.
Like you, IFAI was forced to make diffi cult decisions and learn how to do more with less. We immediately started working on our response to COVID-19 in order to quickly help educate and inform our members as well as the industry at large. Th is work included:
• Collaborating with other industry associations including NCTO, INDA and SEAMS to urge federal, state and local governments to deem textile and nonwoven manufacturing facilities as “essential” when drafting “Shelter in Place” orders in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
• Producing the “Production Capacity Database” with NCTO and INDA. Th is is a database of fi nished goods and input production manufacturers capable of meeting the need for textile-based PPE and medical supplies. Th is is providing members a valuable resource to help connect them with potential opportunities to supply and/or produce PPE and other critical products.
• Developing the robust “COVID-19 Resource Page” on IFAI.com to aggregate relevant content. Th ousands of users accessed content on sourcing, government and agency information, fi nancial information, textile industry updates and news, membership updates and products, services and equipment.
• Launching a series of webinars specifi c to COVID-19 challenges. Th is included a multi-part webinar series with NC State University on PPE properties, production and testing and many division-specifi c webinars dealing with the crisis.
All of this was available to IFAI members at no additional cost. We also continued to deliver value through our more traditional activities, including our industry specifi c content, magazines and websites, advocacy, events and conferences, networking opportunities (before the pandemic) and other member benefi ts.
Th is has been a year of challenge, change and refl ection. As always, your feedback is important and appreciated as we work to provide the best member experience possible.
Th ank you for being an IFAI member!

The Geosynthetics market segment promotes the use of geosynthetics to geotechnical, civil and geoengineering communities through education, marketing, networking and advocacy. GMA offers members a wealth of valuable connections, education and insight helping members navigate and prosper in one of the fastest-growing markets.

GEOSYNTHETICS
• FY 2020 started with its third edition of the Waste Containment Systems Design seminar providing attendees with enhanced knowledge of the current practice of design, construction and CQA for double lined solid waste disposal landfi lls. Th is series of seminars, over the past three years, are a direct result of GMA’s ongoing State and Local Advocacy and educational opportunities.
• GMA targeted three states during FY 2020 for State and Local Advocacy. Due to shutdowns as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic visits were limited to only 2 states, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. In addition to normal meetings with the state DOT, DEQ, Contractors Association and the Governor’s Offi ce, GMA added a visit to the local chapter of ACEC (Consulting Engineers).
• Th e FAA Reauthorization Bill (Section 588): Geosynthetics, provided leverage for the FAA Tech Center in New Jersey to receive additional funding for the research on extending the design life of airport pavements. Th e geosynthetics test sections were installed in September of 2019, testing and monitoring commenced in October.

• Th e FHWA repealed the 103 year old rule, CFR 635.411, which restricted the use of proprietary products by the state DOTs. Lobbying eff orts in Washington, D.C. positioned GMA to be a signifi cant part of the discussions on the repeal of CFR 635.411.
• Th e 2019 Fall Lobby Day & Executive Council meeting was highlighted by a visit from the recently confi rmed FHWA Administrator, Nicole Nason. She complimented GMA and its members on their successes (including the eff orts on the repeal of CFR 635.411) in promoting our knowledge on the Hill, but commented that the acceptance rate of geosynthetics is still lacking. She asked that GMA provide ideas on the opportunities for GMA and FHWA to partner in expanding geosynthetics.
• GMA continues to actively participate with multiple national committees (AASHTO, NTPEP, ASTM, etc) through Focus Groups (GeoTextiles, Geogrids, Environmental, Erosion & Distribution) and task forces, the Interlayer and Marketing Awareness.
Geosynthetics ConferenceTh e Geosynthetics Conference unites the industry by sharing developments across the geotechnical, civil and geoengineering communities. Connect on the show fl oor, through short courses, plenary sessions, technical papers and roundtable and panel discussions.
