Academic year 2013-14

Academic year 2013-14 commenced in the month of June 2013. Many academic and extra-

curricular activities have been planned. Students are from rural background and financial

weaknesses are the two major limitations of the college. It poses restriction on our efficiency and

decisions. However with available strength and will, we do conduct different socio-legal

activities for the benefit of stakeholders of this institution. This year also we have decided to

organize some major activities.

Legal Literacy Programmes

under

National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) established under the legal services

authority act 1987 has granted Rs. 1.20 lakhs to Yashwantrao Chavan Law College,

Karad for the financial year 2013-14 was allotted to conduct legal awareness camps to

promote awareness of legal rights and duties among the citizens and to render justice to

the masses. With the help of eminent social activists, jurist, renowned advocates, human

rights activist and academicians the college organized 12 legal awareness camps on

various topic at the following places in Satara District.

Rule of Law is the cardinal principal of every democratic setup and to ensure the real

taste of justice to the masses is the real motto of the law fraternity. It is realized that

legal aid is an essential component of justice. Yashwantrao Chavan Law College, Karad

since from its establishement in the year 2000 has contributed significantly for the

promotion and protection of interest of deprived sections of population. The sense of

social commitment of the institute reflects in its mission “Social Transformation

Through Dynamic Education”.

Following are Glimpses of Legal aid and Literacy camps that have organized under NALSA

grant. Through this grant we were able to reach to more than 2000 people from different walks of

life residing in different areas of Satara district.

These pictures are piece of evidence that we do conducted these activities in true spirit and zeal.

The entire teaching faculty and students as well as our non-teaching staff have also contributed

in successfully organizing these camps. All these have done for the welfare of the society; there

was no personal interest, no hidden agenda but only a desire to contribute towards the betterment

of society and to make our-self feel proud.

Hon‟ble Chief Minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan inaugurated „Yuvak Kalyan Kaksha‟ i.e.

„Youth Welfare Center‟ at the college. This cell has been established under the Scheme –

„Maharashtra Information Technology Support Center‟ launched by the State of Maharashtra.

Under this scheme the college has received 10 computers. The object of this cell is to impart skill

based education in computer technology.

VIDHI PUSHPA- LAW LECTURE SERIES

College has started this activity long ago. In this head college invites legal luminaries to deliver

speech on different aspects of law.

This is a picture of Prof. Dr. Vijay Ghormade sir, Emeritus Professor and renowned academician

also a Ph. D. supervisor of our principal Pooja Narwadkar. He has been invited to deliver speech

on „Learning the Law with New approaches‟.

Year 2014 is being celebrated as Golden Jubilee year of our parent institute Bharati Vidyapeeth

(Estl.1964). On this occasion we have organized several activities benefitting the society. Tree

plantation, Blood donation camp was one of such activities organized.

VRIKSHA – DINDI

Tree plantation movement was carried

out by the parent institute. Our college

is one of the small units of Bharati

Vidyapeeth, we do participated in this

movement by planting tree in

Malkapur village.

We also organized „Vriksh dindi‟ to

create awareness of Green

Environment.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP- 9/1/2014 was jointly organized by Bharati Vidyappeth Deemed

University‟s Yashwantrao Mohite Institute of Management, Karad and Yashwantrao Chavan

Law College, Karad on the eve of Golden jubilee year celebration of BHARATI VIDYAPEETH,

PUNE.

Training Programme for Protection Officers (CDPOs) in Western Region28/10/2013

College has organized an unique activity in the college i.e. Training Programme for

Protection Officers (CDPOs) in Western Region on 28/10/2013. District Women and Child

Development Department of Govt. Maha., Satara Office approached us in organizing such

workshop on training to Child Development and Protection Officers within Satara, Sangli and

Kolhapur districts.

For inauguration of this programme Shri. P. B. Bkavke, Dist. & Session Judge, Karad Court was

present as Chief Guest. Mrs. Rohini Dhavale- District Women and Child Development Officer,

Dist. Satara, Shri Kalidas Patil- Psychiatrist, Dist. Sangli and many other were present. 35

participants were present for the training programme. All were satisfied about the schedule and

arrangement for the workshop by the college.

VISIT TO ‘DISTRICT LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY, SATARA’- 13/3/2014

In order to inculcate practical approach and groom students, the college organizes field visits. In

this backdrop visit to the office of District Legal Services Authority, at Satara was organized on

13 March 2014. During this visit students also visited District Court at Satara and different

departments of Court.

Internship is a part of syllabi, students have to maintain internship record. Office of DLSA has

provided information on Para Legal Volunteer, Legal Services available, opportunities available

to students and so on.

VISIT OF INSPECTION COMMITTEE BAR COUNCIL OF INDIA- 11/7/2013

Committee of BCI visited the College and inspected the premise, infrastructure, college

activities, and also interacted with students and staff. BCI regularly visits the college in order to

give extension of approval to run the law courses.

Committee was chaired by senior advocate of Bar and Member of BCI - Adv. Satish Deshmukh

along with other respected members of the committee.

Committee applauded the functioning of the college and expressed their well wishes to the staff

and students.

BHARATIYAM KALA MAHOTSAV-2014 was being inaugurated on 16 Jan. 2014 at Venutai

Memorial Hall, Karad by famous writer Dr. Saleel Kulkarni in the presence of Dr. Asmita

Jagtap, Dr. H. M. Kadam and other dignitaries.

For Prize Distribution Ceremony on 19 Jan.2014 Hon‟ble Sau. Vijaymala Kadam (Vahinisaheb)

was present as Chairperson and Ms. Hemangi Kavi, a well known actress was the Chief Guest

along with judges/juries of various events were also present.

Bharatiyam a three days programme is the event

organized by Bharati Kala Acadami, a

constituent unit of bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune.

Every year this event is organised mainly for

colleges within Western Maharashtra region.

Many artist i.e. college students participates in

the event. There are many competitions like solo

singing, group dance, miming, one act play,

drama. This event is a cultural fest for the

college students. It provides platform to college students to show their hidden artistic quality and

aesthetic interest.

This year Law College Karad hosted this programme financed by Bharati Kala Acadami, Pune.

Programme was organized at Venutai Chavan Sabhagruh at Karad. For inauguration ceremony

renown Poet Mr. Saleel Kulkarni was present and for Prize Distribution ceremony famous

Marathi artist Hemangi Kavi was present. Hon. Sau .Vijaymala Kadam was also present for the

function, she is a President of the Acadami.
