Dear Friends,2017 was a year of great progress and renewed strength for The Community House. Stage 284 and our wide array of community programs attracted a record number of visitors from Hamilton, Wenham and our surrounding towns and our new event and program sponsors enabled us to strengthen our oerings by providing stability to our budget and bottom line.

As a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, with no annual operating funding from the towns, The Community House has long required the generous support of our community to oer programming and maintain our historic property. Our dedicated sta and volunteer Board now, more than ever, recognize the need for a robust fundraising eort to fulfill our mission. The increasing demand for our programs, financial assistance for families and children in need, as well as the rising costs of maintaining our historic property inspire us to continue to grow our fundraising eorts and secure more support from family and business sponsors. As we look ahead in 2018, our Board of Directors will be hard at work refreshing our strategic plan and laying the foundation towards a capital campaign that will launch by our 100th anniversary.

In the following pages, you will see a sampling of last year’s highlights, financial data, as well as acknowledgements of our donors, sponsors, and volunteers. “We’re better together” in so many ways, and YOU make it possible for us to make our community stronger – THANK YOU! The future is bright for The Community House and with more hard work we look forward to many more decades of serving our communities.

Sincerely,

Heather Ciriello, President Melissa Elmer, Executive Director

For nearly 100 years The Community House has built special memories for you, provided a place to celebrate your milestones and oered you an ever-evolving variety of experiences, arts, performances, concerts, parties, classes and recreation; oered at an aordable cost, and sometimes free for the entire community.

Of course, everything has a cost and that’s why we depend on your support to continue making life here a little brighter. Through your generosity, the Annual Campaign - Greatest Need division raised $100,000! We need you to help us deliver quality programs and events that our community looks forwardto annually. We couldn’t do it without your support!

Thanks to all of you that supported the “We’re Better Together” scholarship assistance program, helping us to meet our mission, “The Community House is dedicated to enrichment through arts and events that promote togetherness and strengthen the community”. Because of your generosity we were able to award more than $5000 in financial assistance in 2017, helping to ensure that children were not turned away from our programs, theater workshops or theater productions due to an inability to pay.

PROGRAMS

Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer opportunities abound at The Community House!

Internship OpportunitiesOur training program is a pipeline for developing theater professionals and training aspiring youth. Teens and young theater enthusiasts are mentored and trained in a professional theater environment.

“Just over a year and a half ago, my son Matt started volunteering at The Community House two days a week. The impact it has made on his life is almost indescribable.” - Peggy Stedman

In Matt’s own words: “Volunteering has impacted me in a positive way. It has given me a better outlook on life. My life is less stressful due to the fact I have people I can talk to. It is also wonderful because the people at the Community House really care and cherish my help. No matter how much or how little I do,I feel appreciated there.”

Special FriendsWelcoming adults with intellectual and physical challenges for over 30 years. Our unique program hosts themed social nights year-round, featuring live entertainment and activities; dances, parties and an artist-directed watercolor workshop.

Stage 284We continue to expand and receive feedback from patrons, performers and production sta that coming to Stage 284 is like coming “home”. Not only do we strive to create high quality theatre and theatre education programming for and by the community, we create great community and produce high caliber theatre.

EVENTS

Father Daughter BallMusic, dancing and memories; our semi-formal Winter ball welcomed a record 160 guests. A very special tradition enjoyed by local families.

“The Father/Daughter dance is very special for me. As someone who DJs weddings I've seen a good number of Father/Daughter wedding dances. When I dance with my girls at the Community House's event I tend to think years forward while cherishing every moment with them now.” -Marty Miserandino

Mother Son Knight OutA knight-themed evening where brave, young knights have the occasion to practice chivalry. A most memorable evening for Mothers and sons.

A Royal Princess AairA Stage 284 musical revue features the most popular princesses and princes. There is a sense of magic to this event which keeps our young audience members enthralled. Guests come dressed in their finest dresses and crowns eager to meet and have their photograph taken with royalty.

Golf TournamentA lovely sunny and green day at the Cape Ann Golf course, our 15th annual tournament raised $21,000 to support Community House operations. Golfers participated in a live auction, team contests, raes, and a wine pull. A fun way to support The Community House each year!

“This is always such a fun evening. It’s not often that I get to go out alone with my son. One of my favorite takeaways is the photograph of the two of us, which reminds us daily, as it is framed in our home, of the fun evening we enjoyed together.” – Bethany Minich
