ANNUAL REPORT OF GIVING 2020

Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation Funding New Directions

2

Campaign co-chair and donor Trish Kennedy speaks at the August 2020 groundbreaking for the Wilkens Science & Engineering Center.

Left to right, President John Cox, campaign co-chair and donor Corey Calla, and Trustees Chair Tammy Saben shovel dirt.

This annual report of giving is prepared each year to thank our generous donors for their continued support of the Foundation, the College, and our students. This report is designed to be an opportunity to reflect on the year and share highlights from events.

The 2020 report is a bit different because we are, of course, living in very unusual times. While the pandemic has caused us to cancel events, it has not cancelled the generosity of our steadfast donors.

When we asked for support for our Student Emergency Fund, you immediately and generously answered the call. We are able to take action and respond to the needs of students who cannot pay rent or tuition or afford sufficient food for their families. You make a difference.

We postponed our June golf tournament and moved it to September. It was held for the first time at the beautiful Club at New Seabury. As a socially distanced event, we could not offer some of the fundraising activities we do normally.

DEAR FRIENDS,

3

Our sponsors and golfers most generously made contributions that resulted in a highly successful event. Sponsors and golfers made a difference.

The Foundation’s capital campaign for the future Frank and Maureen Wilkens Science and Engineering Center continues to raise funds toward the $10 million goal. The pandemic has not slowed the progress of the project, and a joyous groundbreaking was held in August. We are grateful to campaign co-chairs, Trish Kennedy and Corey Calla, for their leadership. They and all donors to the campaign are working to ensure the College will have a state-of-the-art STEM building that will educate students and provide our community with a talented and skilled workforce. Together, we are making a difference.

In this strangest of years, we have much to appreciate. Thank you for all you do to support your community college.

With gratitude,

Kathy McNamara, Chief Executive Officer

Kathy McNamara

The College and the Foundation honored two alumni with the “Alum of the Year Award” in 2020.

David Troutman has worked in the restaurant industry for more than 47 years; the last 33 as co-owner of Scargo Café in Dennis. A 1976 graduate of Barnstable High, he received his associate’s degree from Cape Cod Community College in 1982, and his bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University in 2006.

David is a founding member and past chair of Calmer Choice. He was honored with the United Way’s “Ron

Reed Award” for dedication to that board. David is an active founding member of the YMCA Teen Achievers steering committee, as well as one of their mentors. He is the current Clerk Trustee of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, and a mentor for both SCORE and EForAll. More recently, he joined the boards of both WE CAN and Leadership Cape Cod. David Troutman brings honor to Cape Cod Community College with his incredible commitment to the Cape.

Sarah Colvin is Communications Manager for the Cape Cod Commission. She has worked in broadcasting and media on Cape Cod for more than two decades. Her passion for Cape Cod and the people who live here are evident in the work that she has done throughout her career. You’ve heard her voice on the radio at WQRC, WOCN, Frank FM, and seen her on cable television hosting “Barnstable This Morning” and “Cape Media News.” You may even see her dressing up to emcee events like the Cape Wellness Collaborative “Dancing with the Docs.”

Sarah got her start in media at Cape Cod Community College. As a student in the late 90s, she served as Program Director for the College’s radio station 90.7 WKKL. The College honors Sarah for her dedication to her community and to CCCC.
