    OUR MISSION

RMHC Wichita provides vital resources and compassionate care to children and their families being served by community health care providers.

Their story begins in Arlington, KS which is a little over an hour from Wichita. Kendra was 27 weeks pregnant and had a very normal pregnancy.

One evening, she had back pain amongst other complications. She and her husband, Cameron, rushed to the ER to make sure everything was okay. Her tests came back nor-mal and the baby was perfectly fine. Nine hours later, she was suddenly and unexpectedly fully dilated.

Baby Nora was born at 27 weeks weighing only 2 lbs 6 oz. The Wes-ley NICU team traveled to Hutchin-son Hospital and picked Nora up. They didn’t know it at the time, but Baby Nora would spend the next 114 days in the NICU.

While Nora was in the NICU at Wesley Children’s Hospital, Kendra and Camron stayed at the Midtown Ronald McDonald House in Wichita for 3 months.

In the midst of chaos, the Nisly’s found peace at the House, “It was hard being so far from home but the wonderful House Managers and volunteers at the Midtown House made us feel at home,” Kendra said.

”They always took time to ask us how Nora was doing and make sure we had everything we needed. They really cared about our family.”

Day by day, Baby Nora grew stronger and stronger. Nora’s biggest

challenge was being able to breathe on her own. Her parents were hopeful their strong, relentless daughter would find a way to pull through.

While they were fighting an uphill battle, the Nisly’s found comfort in sharing their story with the other families staying at the House. Cam-eron said, “We met so many people through this journey.

Other families were going through exactly what we were going through and it made our walk through all of this a little easier.” Af-ter staying in Wichita for 100 days, Nora was transferred to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City.

“Luckily we were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald Houses in KC,” Kendra said. “Nora only had to stay there for 2 weeks and then we final-ly made it home!”

Once home from the hospital, Nora hit every newborn milestone! Nora is now a healthy and happy 2 year old and a big sister!

“We would not have been able to stay with Nora as often as we did without the amazing organization Ronald McDonald House Charities,” Kendra explained. “We are so thankful for all they did for us and still think of them often. We even try to stop by and visit from time to time and they still remember us just as if it was yesterday!”
