Chapter Activities

1. New Members Recruitment

On March 31, 2015, we organized a meeting on recruiting new members.

Pres. Wang introduced the SPIE and the Student Chapter in our university

to the freshmen, and called upon them to be a member of the chapter. After

the meeting, 9 students chose to join our chapter and 21 renew their

membership.

2. The new member welcomes activity

On June 15, 2015, in order to welcome 21 new chapter members, and

promote the relationship between old members and the news, a travel to

Long Men Jian was organized. We had a wonderful time there and got to

know more about each other.

3. Graduation (Oct 14, 2015)

Guodong Liu, a member of our chapter, gave us a dissertation about his

four and half years study in Beijing Jiaotong University.

4. The 2015 Leadership workshop and O+P in San Diego

This summer, Wang Haiyang, on behalf of our chapter, attended the

Leadership workshop and O+P held by SPIE in San Diego, CA with

officers from other student chapters, during August 9 to 13 August 2015.

5.Reports

We invited Dr. Steve Wallace to give our chapter a report about how

to edit English academic paper, on Sep 22, 2015.

6. Inviting old members to make reports

We invited PhD. Zhenchao Sun, t to give us a report on July 16, 2014.

In the meeting, he reported his own academic research and introduced

learning approach.

Planned activities

1. We will arrange a meeting to introduce our chapter to freshmen and to

enroll more new members into our chapter before November.

2. We will encourage our members to participate in the annual meeting of

SPIE and other important international conferences to broaden our

views, make new friends and know new companies.

3. Our goal is to highlight to the college students of the world to the

importance of light and optical technologies in their lives, for their

futures and for the development of society.

4. Many members of our chapter have graduated and had good jobs. We

will invite some of them to give us some experiences on finding suitable

jobs.

5. We plan to introduce the normal optical knowledge for the college

students who are optical lay people. We will design many activities

including Optical Encyclopedic Knowledge Competition to achieve this

aim.

6. In order to Enhance the connections between our chapter and other

Chinese student clubs of SPIE, we are going to invite some chapters in

Beijing to visit our advanced laser lab, and in turn, to visit their labs to

get an idea of their unique experiments.

7. Inviting more professors from other universities to give a lecture to our

members and other students. Owing to the limitation of our major, we

will invite speakers majoring in fiber optics and optical engineering and

quantum optics.

8. Maintain our website. We plan to enrich our website to make it more

beautiful and attractive.
