President’s WelcomeWelcome to the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology! We are delighted to be back at the Ritz Carlton on Lake Oconee. In our 13th year, our tradition continues! The Program Committee has worked hard to develop a curriculum encompassing relevant topics for your enjoyment. This year’s Conference will be divided into three major areas: 1) Anticoagulant Therapy 2019 2) Biomarkers for the Practicing Cardiologist and 3) Aortic Stenosis.

Keeping last year’s format we’ll start on Friday afternoon, each topic will be introduced by a Keynote Speaker, a moderator and subsequent panel discussion, including commentary from our audience members. This format continues to be well received by members. Saturday will begin with an update from the National ACC by Dr. Richard Kovacs, who plans to spend the weekend with us. There will be time to interact for a National per-spective of the challenges facing Cardiovascular Medicine, and the approach our American College is taking.

Saturday morning we’ll hear from a panel representing cardiology around the state discussing overlapping concerns circumventing delivery of cardiovascular services. Saturday evening, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be delivered to Dr. Robert Vincent, recognized for contributions to medicine and the ACC, to be followed by comedian Tom Cotton. Sunday’s session includes a Diversity and Inclusion panel, our always popular case presentations and a lively game of Jeopardy (FIT’s vs. Faculty) will close our conference. As always, our goals for the weekend remain:• Provide information that is relevant and practical to the care of our patients.• Create a forum for dialog between fellow ACC members regarding the practice issues we face

every day.• Develop communication and relationships between our members and our industry partners.• Explore the challenges facing us in the new era of healthcare delivery, as we march along the

road from volume to value based services, and understand what the ACC is doing nationally, and what we might be doing locally and statewide.

• Relax with family and friends. We have our Conference APP available at the App store: GA ACC 2019. This app will house our schedule, our speakers, our sponsors and keep us all connected during the conference.

Robert Vincent MD, CM, FACC, MSCAI

Lifetime Achievement Award

Robert Vincent is a pediatric cardiologist and Professor of Pediatrics at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate and medical school education at McGill University, Montreal Canada, pediatric residency at Montreal Children’s Hospital and cardiology fellowship at Bos-ton Children’s Hospital. Following fellowship he returned to Canada for 3 years before coming to Atlanta in 1987. In 1988 he was appointed as the first medical director of pediatric cardiac transplantation, a post he held for 20 years. His primary interests have always been cardiac catheterization and congenital heart disease. He has been the director of interventional catheterization and the cardiac catheterization labora-tories at Children’s and was the first physician in Atlanta to use catheter devices and stents for congenital heart defects. He has been a member of ACC since 1988 and SCAI since 1994. He was elected to the GA ACC council in 2000 and served as the President of the Georgia Chapter and member of the ACC’s Board of Governors from 2010-2013. Bob is an advocate for cardiology in general and pediatrics in particular and has been a member of the ACC Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology (ACPC) Council. He is a strong supporter of data driven decision making and quality improve-ment initiatives and is currently chair of the NCDR IMPACT Steering Committee, hav-ing been with this registry since its inception.

With SCAI he has enjoyed participation as chair of the Congenital Heart Disease Coun-cil, co-chair of the annual meeting (2005 and 2009), and member of various commit-tees and SCAI’s Board of Trustees. In 2018 he was honored to receive the Master designation of SCAI (MSCAI).

Bob and his wife Ruthe have been married 42 years. They have 2 daughters, Alana and Anese, 2 sons in law, Mark and Riyaad, 1 granddaughter, Hallie and four dogs. They have lived in Stone Mountain since coming to Atlanta and feel fortunate to call Atlanta their home.
