    MNSURE continuesto be a disaster

    • Premiums & deductibles continue to skyrocket.

    • BlueCross will cancel 103,000 insurance policies due to losses of over $500 million, hurting MN families.

    • MNSURE website has cost taxpayers over $300 millionand still has major problems.

    • Governor Dayton and the DFL still blindly support it.

    • We need private sector reforms that increase accessto medical care and lower premiums.

GLENN SUPPORTS SOLUTIONSTHAT WORK FOR RURAL MN★ House republicans led initiatives

that provided funding for roads and bridges in small cities with populations under 5,000. This includes: Arlington, Green Isle, Henderson, Gaylord, Winthrop, Gibbon and New Auburn.

★ Equal funding for rural school districts compared to the metro.

    ★ Pro-life & Traditional family values.★ 100% Pro 2nd Amendment & NRA

voting record.★ House republicans insisted on

property and income tax relief for:Farmers, Veterans, Small Business owners, and families with childcare expenses.

★ 89% of republican & democratlegislators voted for the tax bill. Yet, Governor Dayton vetoed the tax bill wanting almost $500 million in additional spending.

Road & Bridge BillsRepublicans passed $700 million in road & bridge funding.

    • Key projects funded – like completing Highway 14.

    • I chief-authored HF80 to complete Highway 212.

    • The final bill had some additional funds for 212 and language to allow federal matching funds to complete 212.

Unfortunately, the metro democrat-controlled Senatebroke their agreement and added a last-minute $100 million per mile boondoggle light rail project and the billfailed.

With the 147th annual Sibley CountyFair around the corner I am once againputting the finishing touches on my an-nual letter. 2016 brings many changes toour grounds and also our entertainment.New this year in the grandstand is the Ar-lington Raceway Stock Car Shootout, which will highlight the Wednesday nightpresentation. Thursday night’s Night ofDestruction will be a mix of new and re-turn events that should create a large pileof wrecked iron. Again Saturday night’s Ar-lington Raceway will present its now fa-mous Stock Car Races. You asked forspeed, noise, and wrecks, here it is forthree nights during the Sibley County FreeFair. New bands in the entertainmentbuilding this year are SOUTH 40, OUTSIDERECESS, and 2ND NOTION. Returningagain this year are Chopper, Ron E. Cash,Sandra Lee & The Velvets and The Trail-blazers.

On Sunday, starting at 8:00 A.M., wewill have the FIRST annual Rib Cook Off.Come and get hints on how to cook themand grab a taste while you are at it. The Heritage building/Commercial

Doug’s shows combine hisdiscoveries as well as pictures he has ranacross in his travels. I personally nevermiss his shows. The day’s final presenta-tion is the Jim Lawrance Orchestra. Thisband will bring you back to the days youlistened to music without hearing loss.Join them for a relaxing evening in a coolventilated venue built by and for you.

As I sit down to write my annual wel-come to the Sibley County fair letter, wehave perfect weather and moister, butlousy prices. Seems like this happens waytoo often. I am writing this year’s master-piece in two parts as the changes to thisyear’s fair are so numerous.

The fair board has been busier than wehave been in many years. Starting last fallwe began writing and applying for grantsto upgrade our buildings and grounds. Asof this letter, we have been very lucky. With the proceeds from the grants we willreplace the roof on the cattle barn as wellas upgrade the milking area and electri-cal service. It may not be complete by fairtime but will be well on the way.

Next we turned to the sheep & goatbarn. We are starting on a new show ringon the west end and more new pens in-side. We also are installing roof ventila-tion on the non-animal 4-H buildingalleviating a daily inside overheating prob-lem. A new yard light east of thesheep/goat building will light up that darkarea. The grandstand seating has beenupgraded and the roof below it weather-proofed in most of the seating areas.

Here is a last minute announcement.WE HAVE JUST COMPLETED A PAVEDPATH FROM THE NORTH SIDE OF THEHERITAGE BUILDING PAST THE ENTER-TAINMENT BUILDING AND THE LEGIONBUILDING TO ACROSS THE STREETFROM THE FAIR OFFICE. This is the firststep in some day and a small fortune that

we will have all the buildings connected. This has been the most requested im-provement to our grounds for many years.

With this list, a group of businesseshave stepped up to donate and providegrants. South Central Grain sheep/goatshow ring; AgStar Financial Services newsheep/goat pens; Minnesota Valley Elec-tric Cooperative thru their OperationRound Up roof ventilation on 4-H non-an-imal building; Minnesota Legislature/De-partment of Agriculture new roof onbuilding 14, the cattle barn. The SibleyCounty American Dairy Association do-nated $2,500 for a much needed milkhouse upgrade. The Sibley County 4-HFederation recently donated $2,000 forsheep pens, show ring, and milk houseupgrade. Others helping out this year areMcGuire Electric with electrical upgrades;Prairie Lakes Arts Council a generous en-tertainment grant; Vos Construction andLocher Brothers as well as McGuire Elec-tric, all three 2015 Elite sponsors. Finally, thank you to three Fair Board membersand a Green Isle Farm family who alsodonated to our Heritage building. Theirnames are on a plaque in the Heritagebuilding with room for others who wouldlike to honor someone, a business orplace. Check with the fair office for infor-mation if interested.

I only mentioned the larger grants andsponsors due to room constrictions. Themany smaller donations were used formany smaller projects and entertain-

ment. All of these donations are consid-ered important to us. We welcome any do-nations earmarked or otherwise to makeour fair better each year. I am sure as youvisited our fair you have noticed the re-markable changes the past few years. This has been the result of Sibley Countyresidents as well as businesses pitchingin to help. The sad thing is we cannot per-sonally thank each of you who donatemoney, cash, time, labor, and support toOUR fair. Be assured OUR means all of usfrom fair board to citizens, county com-missioners, elected officials, sponsors, visitors, venders, and the many exhibiters.

    THANK YOU!

    VETERANSWALKING PATH OF HONOR

    By Bridget Jonston

I have dozens of memories of a specialfair in Arlington, Minnesota. My mom grewup in Minnesota and lived there for mostof her life. She moved out of Minnesotawhen she was in her late teens. Anyway, her parents stayed in a small town calledArlington. It’s the type of town whereeverybody knows everybody and nobodylocks their doors. Everyone trusts eachother and there are some really amazingthings in that town. There is a memorialsite that honors veterans less than ablock away from my grandparents house.I love to go there late at night and justseep in all of the love. There is a swingthat is attached to two wooden pegs andhangs down and just touches the grass.Oh, the grass. It’s as green as, well grass! It has tiny yellow buds poking up just highenough to be stepped on by my feet run-ning to my grandparents light blue house. On one special night that I remember, mymom called me in because is was Thurs-day – the opening night of the county fair!I couldn’t wait to run on the trampled dirtand gravel and smell the corn dogs andthe sticky smell of soda. For as long as Icould remember, I had gone to the countyfair in that small town.

When I push open the metal fencing, Isee the big bears. They were wearingpink, green, blue, purple and yellowpants! They spin in a circle and those arethe rides that make you dizzy. They weremeant for little kids but sometimes even

I can’t take the spinning! Then I look overand see the big cylinder. It has colorfulswings attached on metal chains. Theyare hanging and I watch as little childrenrun to a swing, and my cousin pulls at myarm begging for me to ride it with her. Isay, later and we walk past to the bigtents. As we pass I look over to my leftand see the big ferris wheel. It has rain-bow colored steel pieces that attach eggshaped baskets. They are woven, so therider can see out but people on theground can barely see in. The seats arecold and red and just above the seats, alarge black bar rests on your lap so youdon’t, you know, fall out. When you lookpast the ferris wheel you can see a redand yellow carnival games booth. It has afew balloons hanging on to a white spraypainted cork board and there are a fewcup holders with darts in it. There is aman behind the booth shouting and beck-oning for kids to pay a crazy amount forfive darts! Squished in next to that crazybooth, is my favorite ride. It’s called theoctopus. It is surrounded by blackspeakers with yellow stripes at thetop and bottom. It has eight greenmetal “arms” that stick out. Thereis a man that has a cigarette hang-ing out of his mouth. He takes myticket and helps me get into a ten-tacle. The seat is cold on my legsand all I feel is peace, even thoughI am about to be whipped aroundand around and around until Ican’t walk without throwing up. I

wait for the ride to start and when it finallydoes, I smile! I have been waiting for thismoment for a year and when the rideends, I get right back in line. Emma, mysister, runs to the snow-cone booth withmy cousins, Freddy and Lucy, but I stay. Iwait in line for just a couple of minutes. And then it happens again. That state oftotal relaxation. Then I smile. And it’s likethat for half an hour. Wait, relax, smile.Wait, relax, smile.

I finally join my family in the tent wheremy sister has demolished her piña coladasnow-cone and Lucy hasn’t even made adent. I see my grandma, talking to all ofher old lady friends. I love the fair. I lovethe baby petting zoo and the rides. I lovethe connections that people make witheach other and the food. I love the thingsyou can learn from a carnival. I love thetime that I get to spend with my familyand I love that it’s a tradition. That’s why, when I think of summer, I think of the car-nival. I think of the food, the rides, and thegames. I think of simply happiness!
