Seth and Masha Katz
S eth Katz is a native Washingtonian. He attended the Hebrew Academy of Greater Washington, Torah High School of Texas, and the University of Maryland,
where he earned a Bachelors of Science in computer science. Together with his twin brother, Manasseh (also quite involved in YISE), Seth founded and operates Smart Computer Co., Inc., a computer consulting, programming, and network busi-ness.
M asha hails from North Miami Beach, Florida. She attended the Rabbi Alexander S. Gross Hebrew Academy of Greater Miami, Machon Gold College
for Women, and Stern College/Sy Syms School of Business, where she received a BS in business. Masha worked in her family’s business until she married Seth and moved to Silver Spring. (How Masha met Seth is the subject of an epic poem, read by most guests to the Katz house. Long story short: it was bashert, and they continue to live happily ever after.)
Growing up at YISE with parents who were very involved in its activities, Seth naturally began to also serve the shul. It was a second home! Over the years, he helped with laining & davening, starting with the youth minyan, later with the hashkamah minyan, 8:45 and occasionally Univer-sity Blvd. He has assisted at shiva houses, served on the Shul board for about 10 years, and is now on his second “run” as gabbai of the 8:45 minyan. (Don’t worry about retirement – Seth has already told the likely next president that he will be happy to continue as gabbai.) Masha has participated in the sisterhood over her years here, and she always assisted whenever asked with many various events, from planning, to cooking, to setting and even to cleaning up.
Each has his or her own shul projects, but you can almost any day find one or the other working on some YISE activi-ty
Seth and Masha are blessed with three sons: Yisrael (13, 8th grade YGW), Hershel (10, 4th grade TSGW), and Meir (8, 2nd grade KMES).
Rabbi Scott and Shevi Miller
A fter completing his undergraduate degree in Eco-nomics at Brandeis University in 1993, Scott met Shevi in Jerusalem. She had lived there from the
age of 14, and they married in 1996. They lived in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City until 1998 when Scott received his s’micha from Rav Zalman Nechemya Gold-berg as well as a degree in pedagogy from Israel’s Minis-try of Education. They spent the next three years in Hol-lywood, Florida where Scott served as the youth director of the Young Israel of Hollywood and taught middle and high school, Judaics and secular studies, at Hillel Com-munity Day School.
With three children at the time, the Millers made Aliyah in 2001 and lived in Ramat Beit Shemesh, where their family grew and they founded and ran Israel’s first sushi factory, supplying fresh sushi all over the country. In 2007, they sold the business and moved to Silver Spring. Since moving to Kemp Mill, Scott and Shevi have become very active mem-bers of our community. The variety of their activities and participation are almost mind boggling.
Shevi is currently a certified weight loss counselor, yoga in-structor and Thai masseuse. She consults and teaches classes in her home studio. Scott currently works for Analytic Finan-cial Group, LLC as a freelance CFO and has worked with over 45 different companies, ranging over a wide variety of industries.
The Millers are not only active members of the entire Kemp Mill community but they are the proud parents of their five children. One of Scott’s most successful activities is serving as Rabbi of our youth minyan. With their continuous com-munity support and dedication, YISE is fortunate to have them with us.

To our dearest Masha and Seth, We are so proud of you for receiving this honor. It could not be bestowed upon two more worthy people.
Never asking for accolades or acknowledgement you both work tirelessly for your shul, your children's schools, and to help peo-ple in your community. The example you set for your children is like the example Avraham set for the Jewish people when he offered the angels bread and water and then set out an entire feast. You say little but do much following our tradition of mod-esty and Torah building.

Dear Seth and Masha,
What a well-deserved honor!
Seth, for as long as we've known you, you have been a
"staple" in the Shul, always willing and able to make the
shul run more smoothly and successfully. Most recently,
you've been a major contributing factor in the revitaliza-
tion of the 8:45 Minyan.
Masha, along with "manning the home front", you have
also been able to find the time and energy to contribute
so much to the success of so many of the Shul's projects.
May you both continue to enjoy good health and many
years of service to Young Israel Shomrai Emunah.

Dear Seth and Masha:
Congratulations on this-well deserved honor.
Seth, I have been rooting a long time for you to be hon-ored at the shul banquet. You and I both grew up in this shul, but from an early age you always viewed the shul differently than I. You always saw Shomrai Emunah as a place that gave you an opportunity to help in any way pos-sible. For most of my life, I saw the shul as a place to da-ven where everything that needed to be done was taken care of by someone else. Your dedication to the shul has inspired me to try to help out where I can. I've learned that everyone can find some aspect of the shul that they can help to improve.
Mazel Tov.
May you and Masha continue to make our shul a wonder-ful place to daven for years to come.

M azel tov to our youth honorees, and we wish them success as they move forward and continue to grow. Congratulations to Shevi and Rabbi Scott Miller.
May they and their children, in time, continue to share their many talents with our community, at YISE and beyond. Last, but absolutely not least, with our love and all the compliments stolen by us from everyone else’s kudos in this journal, we send our appreciation to one of our “adopted” sons, Seth, his wonderful wife, Masha, their children and extended family for all that they have accomplished. The Katzes have always been a part of YISE and are among the first friends we had in Kemp Mill - and we hope to keep forever. We consider Seth, Masha and the boys as our family. We often think about Seth as our son Jan’s chavrusa for almost 20 years. We remember the first trip and excitement to from Florida when Seth met Masha “in person”, (we still have the magnet they bought us together on that first meeting!”). We loved our late Friday night and Yom Yovim visits when they were single, and Seth, his twin brother and often a friend stopped at our house for a verbal night-cap and to share the week’s new. There is so much to remem-ber…. Seth and Masha’s parents set wonderful examples that their chil-dren follow and now pass onto their own children from their hearts, experiences and dedication to Yiddishkeit. We know by way of their children, we will continue to see more of so much good we have come to accept as a Katz contribution. Masha and Seth, you are such wonderful “kids” to add to our own!
We love you guys!
