To Christ, King of the Universe
O Christ Jesus, I acknowledge You King of the Universe. All that has been
created has been made for You. Exercise upon me all Your rights. I renew my
baptismal promises renouncing Satan and all his works and pomps.
I promise to lead a good Christian life and to do all in my power to procure
the triumph of the rights of God and Your Church. Divine Heart of Jesus,
I offer You my poor actions in order to obtain that all hearts may acknowledge
Your sacred royalty and that thus the reign of Your peace may be established
throughout the universe.
Amen.

Welcome To Annunciation Parish!
Uniting The Catholic Community of Newington, Established June 29th, 2017
If you are new to our parish or if you have been away from the practice of the faith, we extend a warm welcome and hope you feel at home here. Our parish is nourished by your presence today. We invite you to introduce yourself to the priest or deacon after Mass so that we can greet you. We hope you will make Annunciation Parish YOUR parish.
All children are welcome to be baptized in the Catholic Church. It does not matter if the parents are single or married outside the Catholic Church. ALL CHILDREN no matter what, are welcome to the baptism of the Lord, as long as they will be raised Catholic. Annunciation Parish usually offers baptisms on the first and third Sundays. To get started, please call the parish office - Saint Mary (860-666-1591) or Holy Spirit (860-666-5671). We can’t wait to welcome your child into the life of Christ and our Church through Baptism.

Readings for the Week of November 25th, 2018
First Reading: Daniel 7:13-14
The mysterious “Son of Man” (Jesus) returns as a king whose
dominion is everlasting.
Second Reading: Revelation 1:5-8
The resurrection of Jesus is equivalent to His installation as the
universal king. It also inaugurates a new age. Being in the kingdom
means being under God’s rule.
Gospel: John 18:33b-37
This scene finds Jesus telling Pilate that He is indeed a king, but
one whose kingdom “is not here.” He came to testify to the truth,
which prompts Pilate’s famous unanswered question.
Daly Notes
With the celebration of Thanksgiving over, we officially enter the holiday season.
Next Sunday we will begin the season of Advent. We often miss Advent's power because
these weeks are full of parties and preparations for Christmas. Each year, the
busyness of this season serves to distract us from having an Advent season that truly
prepares us for the celebration of Christmas, with all its meaning.
So this year we have decided to make things a little more convenient for you.
In addition to our regular confessions times on Saturdays, there will be confessions:
Wednesday, December 12th from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Saint Mary Church and
Wednesday, December 19th from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at Holy Spirit Church.
We will also have confessions on Christmas Eve from 10:00 am to 12 Noon at Holy
Spirit Church. I hope you will be able to take advantage of these additional hours to
celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation this Advent.
Peace,
Father Shawn

Saint Edmund Campion, December 1st
K ing Henry VIII’s English Reformation was well underway when
Edmund Campion was born in 1540. It was a dangerous time to be
Catholic in England, yet Edmund’s father instilled in him a deep faith
and love of the Church. Excelling in his studies, Edmund was offered a scholarship to Oxford
at 15 and was made a fellow at only 17.
In 1569, Edmund was selected by Oxford to give the welcome speech to the new Queen
Elizabeth. She was so impressed with Edmund that she promised her patronage, guaranteeing
him a life of power and prestige if only he would become Anglican. The lure of the offer was too
tempting for Edmund, who left the Church and was ordained an Anglican deacon. However,
the Truth of the Catholic faith was firmly rooted in his heart and only 2 years later he had a
crisis of conscience and fled to France to study in a Catholic seminary, and then later to Rome
where he entered a Jesuit order and was ordained. He then spent several years teaching in
Vienna and Prague, but felt called to return to England and minister to the oppressed English
Catholics.
With the persecutions intensifying, he initially dressed in disguise and celebrated the
sacraments secretly. He later chose to make his ministry public and would even preach on
horseback through the countryside, gaining many converts. By 1850 he published and
distributed pamphlets denouncing Anglicanism, and challenged notable Anglicans to debate
him on theological issues. His outspoken promotion of the Truth led to his arrest and
imprisonment in the Tower of London, and he was charged with treason for his denouncements
of Anglicanism. Despite all that had happened, Queen Elizabeth still held him in esteem, and
offered him a full pardon if he would convert back to the Anglican church. He refused and was
hanged, drawn and quartered, a punishment reserved for the highest level of treason.
Although Edmund initially abandoned the Church to accept the Queen’s offer of a life of
privilege, his conscience could only ignore the Truth for so long, even though it cost him his
life. May we be encouraged by St. Edmund Campion’s example and not forsake the eternal
glory of Christ and His church for the fleeting luxuries of the world.
