From the Pastor’s Desk

Jesus tells His disciples to love one another as He loves them. That’s a tall

order because His love was complete. His love was to the death. It is very

easy to look at others, hate the wrongs they cause us when they bother or

hurt us, and decide to withhold that love. Jesus’ call is difficult sometimes

but it is part of His great plan. Moving ourselves in love towards others -

especially when we feel we have reason to dislike them - opens us up to

receiving the love of God. It also works to build a more peaceful existence

in the world. We may not even realize how we have pushed others out of

our “circle” of concern and love. Perhaps as we continue to reflect on the

mystery of Jesus’ death and resurrection we can see our way clear to

“resurrecting” some distant relationships - or forming some new ones with

others in our community.

We had our Spring Festival last weekend. I enjoyed the conversations I

had with people and seeing the children playing both indoor games and

kickball (and also eating a LOT of cotton candy). One of the best times

was the impromptu sing-along that took place around the keyboard on the

stage - that was fun! When they met, the School Board looked at enroll-

ment, finances, marketing and the golf tournament. There is still time to

sign up to play in the tournament or become a sponsor for this event. Info

is in the bulletin and on website. Mrs. Tavaska and the teachers are look-

ing at new math curricula and we will be putting these in place for the up-

coming school year.

Pastoral Council finalized the parish survey, discussed outreach efforts, the

logo, and looked at a few other issues. We do have a couple open spaces

on the council - if anyone is interested, please contact me.

Not much to report from this past week except that I was on vacation. It

gave me a chance to do a few neglected things, and take a break from the

normal routine. I am looking forward to getting back to some things this

upcoming week and will be reporting on them in an upcoming col-

umn. Thanks to all who wished me a good vacation, it is appreciated.

We have been making good progress as a community and there is still

much to do. I am encouraged by those who step forward and assume

leadership - this is what we need. When we empower each other to en-

gage in discipleship, and when we help each other to discover how the

Lord is calling each one to minister in this church community, then we can

grow and become a powerful instrument in God’s hands.

The more I think of it, the more happy I am to be here. I continue to see the

potential that we have yet to tap. Each struggle is an opportunity for

growth, each obstacle is a chance to see the power of Jesus’ work, and

each success is a chance to give thanks to the God who provides so well

for us. Have a great week!

Annunciation Parish Mission Statement:

Strengthened by the Eucharist, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent by Christ we seek by worship and service to compassionately

meet the corporal and spiritual needs of our parish family and beyond. We desire to warmly welcome the stranger and one another, and

together reach a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. In doing this, we are committed to the caring and ongoing Christian formation of

others by providing opportunities for spiritual, intellectual, and social growth within our faith and local community.

For those who are new to the parish or returning after some time away, we would like to welcome you to our

Catholic community. In this bulletin you will find many opportunities to be enriched and involved. If you would

like to register as a member or have any questions, call us at 978-632-0253, email us at

[email protected], or stop by the Parish Office during the week.

God blessed,

Fr. Steve
