• Anorexia(or anorexia nervosa) is an eating disorder in which a person starves themselves.

• Anorexia affects the victim physically, mentally, and emotionally. Most of the time, people become anorexic out of the fear of gaining weight.

• Anorexia was not recognized as a disorder until the 1880s and wasn't commonly diagnosed until the 1990s.

•  There were many earlier cases of anorexia, but very few of them were ever documented or recorded.

  Signs and symptoms of Anorexia:• Obvious, rapid, dramatic weight loss• Soft fine hairs grown on body and face• May induce self vomiting to get rid of the extra calories• Truly thinks they are over weight• Depression, solitude

If anyone has any signs pointing to Anorexia, being concerned is the first thing to do as it has the highest mortality rate of any other psychiatric disorder. It’s also highly hereditary, with inherence rates ranging from 56% to 84%. The environment comes into play when the individual is influenced that they need to lose weight, or that they’re just fat.

• One of the physical treatments for Anorexia is to take medication.  This is needed to make you want to eat and to slow down your metabolism.

• Another treatment is medical marijuana.  Scientists did a study in this and it proved that it helped make the patient hungry and crave food.

• The mental side of this disorder is the biggest part of it.  • For mental treatment with therapy.  They have to go in

several days a week in order to help them not have to think what they think.

• Other mental ways to help improve this disorder is to have very heavy family and friend support.  They need to help convince and guide the patient into the correct direction

Early detection and treatment is very important with anorexia.  This disorder can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for treatment for a long term case.  This is a huge toll for the family paying for the treatment and for the patient with all the time away from their life.  Too late and anorexia could result in death.
