The Ansley Tennis Program had a terrific Spring season with many teams making it to

the Playoffs, and Georgia Schultz’s B3 team won the City Championships! Our courts were resur-

faced in May, playing better then they have all year and play on the courts is increasing with all the new members that have joined the club in the last few months. If you don’t recognize someone, they are likely a new member--make them feel at home by introducing yourself and welcoming them to Ansley.

Summer is in full swing and it will end with an exciting

splash on the tennis courts. The Ansley Pro Am will take place August 19 – 22. This year’s com-mittee is proud to make a special announcement: The world’s number one doubles team the Bryan Brothers will be here to play at our courts and

participate in a big way at the event. The Bryan Brothers are winners of a record 10 grand slams and 73 titles and will be conducting several clin-ics for our sponsors, plus a 90 minute exhibition followed by their band playing at the pool for the after party. They will also be hosting the awards ceremony for all of our winners from the Pro Am. They are using their day at Ansley as a last minute tune up before they leave the next day for the US Open. What makes this so special is they are not participating in the Atlanta Professional Tourna-ment or the Winston Salem event that same week. We should feel very lucky that we have this great opportunity to be able to see such world class ten-nis in our backyard. The date of all of this fun is August 22.

The reason the Bryan Brothers are here is to give us a grand finale for the Pro-Am. This is by far the most exciting tournament that Ansley hosts each year. This year the ladies will be play-ing on August 19th and the Men on August 20th and 21st. On Saturday evening, we host our first ever Mixed Doubles event. This will be a more casual approach to the Pro Am, but we think it will be well received. There won’t be our usual gala event to help raise money, but the Bryan Brothers exhibition and party following will take the place of the gala. There will be exciting and valuable auction items this year including box seats to any of the 4 Grand Slams that the Bryan Brothers are playing, provided they are still in the tournament. Proceeds of the event will be donated to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Bryan Brothers Foundation. Their foundation works with under privileged children who can’t afford education opportunities and after- school activities such as tutoring or sports.

We are really looking forward to this tournament and we hope that the Ansley Membership really supports this great cause and this great event as we should all realize that this might be the only time that we can get this close and personal with the greatest doubles team of all time.

Independence Day Celebration • July 4th

If you haven’t already, make plans now to attend Ansley’s big-gest and best annual event. The pool is open all day with endless entertainment for the family, A DJ will be on hand from 1:00 until 6:30 p.m. to organize pool games throughout the day. Lunch and

dinner buffets will also be available on the deck. The lunch buffet will be charged at $15.95 for adults and $8.95 for children ages 4-10, while the dinner buffet will cost $19.95 for adults and $10.95 for chil-dren ages 4-10. As evening approaches, make your way up to the #8 fairway for carnival games and rides for the kids. Once the sun begins to set, get ready for the city’s best fireworks display! The show will start at 9:30 p.m. Reservations are not required for this event.

Happy Hour and Golf Contests • July 22

Happy Hour on July 22nd is heading across the street! In true Member Guest fashion, Phil Taylor will lead us in a fun long drive and chipping con-test which will be open to everyone. For those that just want to socialize, no problem…we will have complimentary hors d’oeuvres, great drink specials sponsored by Grey Goose, and “golf” entertainment for you to watch. There will be a $10 entry fee for participation in one golf contest. There will be a $5 charge for each additional sleeve of balls. Prizes will be awarded to both men and women winners. Please sign up for the golf portion of this event with the Golf Pro Shop.

Dive in Movie • July 23rdOur summer favorite Dive in Movies are always a

hit! Bring the whole family over to the pool on July 23rd to see a showing of “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” on Ansley’s huge inflatable screen. We’ll start the movie at sundown and you can stay in the pool or on the deck while you watch! Popcorn and other concessions will be available and we’ll also have a dinner buffet on the pool deck for those who work up an appetite swim-ming and playing all afternoon. Reservations are not required.

Lobster Bake • August 6thJoin us for a relaxing Saturday evening in the

ballroom for a delectable adults-only lobster bake and buffet on August 6th. In addition to the exten-sive dinner buffet Chef Ron and his team will be preparing, each guest will receive a two-pound Maine lobster. The buffet will be open from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at a cost of $44.95 per person. Cocktails and wine will be charged on individual member accounts. This event requires reservations to be made in advance and the 72 hour cancellation policy will be strictly enforced. Please note that we must have your reservation at least 72 hours in advance in order to confirm the lobster order. Reservations for the lobster bake are currently open and can be made by calling the front desk receptionist.

Outdoor Concert with “Mike and the Band” • August 13th

Ansley is kicking it country this summer! Gather your friends and make plans now to attend a country concert featuring “Mike and the Band” on the golf course on August 13th. This event is a great opportunity to bring guests to the club to show them how much fun we have at Ansley! The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., but guests are welcome to head onto the course starting at 7:00 to set up your blan-ket on the lawn and start enjoying cocktails.

You can expect to hear the band play your country favorites including:

There will not be any reserved seating for this event! The cost to attend the concert is $32 per person. Chef Ron will be on hand smoking pig for delicious barbecue sandwiches and the bars will be stocked. All food and beverage will be by mem-ber signature. No outside food or beverage will be permitted.

Personnel Announcement:It is my pleasure to introduce Shawn Trauger as our new Assistant Manager. Shawn has been a part of

the Ansley family for over five years and has most recently been working in the Catering Department as the Junior Banquet Captain. Shawn is a graduate of Georgia State University and will be responsible for our Men’s Grill and Locker Room, as well as our Adult Casual Dining in the Williamsburg Room beginning this September. Terrapin Beer Dinner August 25th

Ansley will be hosting it’s first ever beer dinner on August 25th. The four course, delec-table meal will be served in the Williamsburg Room. Each course will be paired with one of the unique and delicious brews from Athens’ own Terrapin Beer Co. which will compliment the local ingredients in the food. We’ll begin the night in the lounge for our first beer of the evening at 6:30 p.m. with dinner service begin-ning at 7:00 for a cost of $50 per person. Space is extremely limited for this event, so be sure to reserve early. Reservations are currently open and can be made by calling the front desk receptionist.

Labor Day Celebration and Pig Pickin • September 5th

Enjoy one of the last days of summer out at the pool. We’ll be roasting a pig all day and will have a lunch buffet hot off the grill from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The cost for the lunch buffet will be $14.95 for adults and $8.95 for children. Dinner will be offered between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. for a cost of $18.95 for adults and $10.95 for children. A DJ will be on hand all day organizing pool games to entertain the chil-dren. Team Trivia Night September 14th

It’s that time again to test your random knowledge of sports, history and pop culture while enjoying the fresh fall air on the pool deck! Gather a group of 2 – 6 of your most knowledgeable friends to form your trivia team and join us on the pool deck for a night of friendly competition. Trivia will be played like you would see at any other bar in the city and will be accompanied by appetizers. Of course, the drinks will be flowing and prizes will be given to the winners of each round. Trivia play and the accompanying cocktail buffet will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a price of $16.95 per person. Reservations are required for this event and can be made by calling the front desk receptionist on or after July 14th!

Beer Tasting and Oyster Roast • September 23rd

Don’t miss Ansley’s 3rd annual beer tasting on September 23rd. The event will be held on the pool deck, weather permitting, and guests will have the opportunity to sample a variety of unique and delicious brews from around the world. This year, we’ll be serving up a tradi-tional oyster roast throughout the event which will begin at 7:00. The cost of this event is $39.95 per person and reservations are required. ALTA City Championship!We would like to note in the last issue we

congratulated Georgia Schultz’s team for win-ning the City Championship at B-3 and left off Kyle Adams. Please congratulate Kyle as she was a very important team member.

team participating this summer. If your child is interested in playing please email Danny at [email protected]

Also, If your child would be interested in playing jr. ALTA this fall please email us so we can start organizing teams. The alta roster deadline is July 11th for all Jr. ALTA teams. Please let us know if you would be interested in captaining or co-captaining a junior team this coming fall.

Summer Camps:Our summer tennis camps are in full swing

again. We do still have openings available for the month of July so check your summer schedules and be sure to include a tennis camp for your child here with us at Ansley before the summer expires.

Ages 5-8 Quick Start Camp (9 a.m. -2 p.m.)

This camp is focused on children working on their eye hand coordination, foot work and basic tennis strokes. We will use the quick start format utilizing the smaller nets, lower com-pression balls and shorter rackets during these camp times. It will be full of fun games that the children will play and not even realize that they are learning.

Ages 9-13 ALTA and USTA Players (10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.)

This camp is designed for the junior that has played in ALTA or USTA. The focus will be on stroke production, strategy on singles and doubles and match play. All children will receive a CD with a stroke that he/she worked on during the camp via Dartfish and be able to make corrections to that stroke based on the video made.

Dates for both Camps: Dates: July 5th-8th, July 12th-15, July19th-22nd, July26th-29th, Aug. 2nd-5th

Cost: $240 per week and 5% sibling and multi week discounts

Jr. Charity Pro-Am:This was our 5th year hosting this great event

and again our charity was Camp Sunshine. We as a staff are very happy to announce that we will be giving over $6,500 to Camp Sunshine this year. Thank you to all who donated money and time to make this event yet another great success. Congratulations everyone...

Dinner and a Movie

There are four dinners and movies this month. Remember to make your reservations early for these events, as they fill up quickly. The children

bring sleeping bags or blankets and pillows to use during the movie.

Arts and CraftsOn Monday, July 4th, we will have arts and

crafts by the pool. It will be a drop in session and will cost $5 per child. It will only take around 20 minutes to complete the projects. Please make reservations in advance, so I will have an idea of the number of materials to purchase.

Sports CampThere will be three one week sessions

of sports camp this summer. Each camp runs from 10:00-2:00 Tuesday through Fri-day. It includes: swimming, tennis, golf, and lunch with arts and crafts. These camps are designed for ages 6 and older and cost $250 per child.

June 28-July 1, July 19-22, and July 26-29

The spaces will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. You can call Pam Drew at (404) 897-5857 or email [email protected] to make reservations.

Art ClassAll children ages 5 and older are invited for

an art class at Sip and Strokes on Monday, July 11th. We will meet at Ansley at 10:30 and travel by shuttle to Toco Hills. We will eat lunch and then have the 2 hour art class. The cost for the art class is $25 per child, which includes all materials and instruction. Lunch will be added to this amount. We will return at 2:30. Dive in Movie

Food and Beverage is hosting a dive in movie on Saturday, July 23rd. We will be featuring “The Chron-icles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” and plan to begin the movie at sun-down. Please contact the receptionist for any questions regarding this event.

Tom pope, his wife Mer-edith and their daughter Olivia have lived in Atlanta for 20 years. Tom is the owner of the law firm Hasty Pope with offic-es in Canton, Gainesville and Atlanta.

Raymond White III is a native of Atlanta and has grown up at Ansley Golf Club. He enjoys the game of golf and looks forward to the opportunity of playing both courses on a regular basis.

Kate and David Hodgins

recently moved into Sherwood Forrest. Kate is a Research Proj-ects Manager at Emory Univer-sity. The Hodgins look forward to playing tennis and golf and meeting new friends at the pool.
