A NOTE FROM HEARTHSTONE FARM
On behalf of Hearthstone Farm, we would like to welcome you to the fifth annual Ante Up Production
sale at Hearthstone Farm on November 7, 2010. In cooperation with SVJ and D&D Farms, Phelps Cattle
Co., Schreiderer Cattle, and Strausbaugh Cattle we have assembled a deep set of Simmental genetics offered
for sale. Our goal is to produce quality females that will stand the test of time and bulls that will work from the
tanbark to the pasture. The sale will offer the best of our genetics and sale lots. We are offering an exciting
new string of show prospects, as well as our best pedigreed bred females. The bulls offered in this sale are
some of this groups most elite genetic offerings. This diversified group will offer something for the even the
most progressive breeder.
Hearthstone Farm was originally built as a Jersey farm in the early 1940’s by A.G. Samuelson for his
daughter Louise Bauer. The farm was also a place for the construction crews to continue to work throughout
the winter instead of losing jobs in the tough economy of the 1940’s. The farm has raised three generations of
Bauer’s with Louise still being able to reside on the farm today. As the farm grew and times changed it has
been transformed into a nationally acclaimed three day eventing farm for horses as well as a home for premier
Simmental cattle. It was fifty years to the date from the last production sale for the Jerseys to the first pro-
duction sale for the Simmentals. As this sale progresses throughout the years, it is the hope for the Ante UP
group to expand and make another fifty years of cattle history on this farm.
We invite you to become part of the new era at The Ante Up Sale. The cattle have been very successful in
the who ring and pasture over the last several years. We are anxiously awaiting the new season with new
cattle and owners. If any of us representing the Ante Up Production Sale can assist you, please don’t hesitate
giving us a call. We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you in the future.
Sincerely,
Gary & Heather

The Antoinette genetics have certainly made a huge impact on the Simmental breed. As an outcross to the breed, we used SVJ Power Surge and Domination as service sires. The power in these two bulls along with the feminity in this female will truly make a great mating. We feel that their beautiful phenotype crossed with these power bulls will produce top quality bulls as well as heifers. Now is the time to get in on the ground level in the future. Selling buyers choice of 3 or 5 embryo packages by Power Surge or Domination. Seller guarantees 2 pregnancies from a 5 embryo package or 1 pregnancy from a 3 embryo package if implantation is performed by an AETA certified technician.
Here is an opportunity to purchase cutting edge genetics from the full sister to the one million dollar producing super donor, SOSF Ebonys Joy L-123. Ebonys Shadow is making a name for herself by consistently producing excellent progeny regardless of the mating. You have the opportunity to buy either Dominance embryos from this great donor or roll the dice on one of the top young sires in the business, STF Fixation. Selling buyers choice of 3 or 5 embryo packages by Power Surge or Domination. Seller guarantees 2 pregnancies from a 5 embryo package or 1 pregnancy from a 3 embryo package if implantation is performed by an AETA certified technician.

Old fashioned, rock solid Angus genetics at their best, the proven donor dam of these embryos has been a great investment for SVJ Farm. She was a special selection by Clint Woodrow as his favorite female from the entire Eby Angus Ranch, and she is a sight to behold. There is so much depth, mass and sound movement here that we will stack her against any foundation Angus cow that you want to produce. We are using this special female for F1 production and we think that the quality speaks for itself. Embryo’s from the time-tested Meyer 734. There is no way to loose when you start with this type of female. Selling 3 embryos with a guarantee of 1 pregnancy if work is done by a certified AETA technician.

The QUEEN has made her mark among the breed’s elite donor females producing progeny that just flat work in the show ring and pasture. Her daughters have won numerous shows and her sons will top test station gains, but the true mark of a great donor is her ability to make females with sound udders, extreme depth and spring of rib along with being feminine and high producing. Queen has made it through all the hoops and is ready to make you money. The Lizzie Genetics are the most predicatble and consistent genetics that I have ever seen. SVJ Lady In Red’s mother sired by Shear Force stands out as the most impressive two year old on our farm. The Triple C Lizzie cow herself is out of the great No Joke cow who was both open and junior Grand Champion at the North American. It doesn’t get much better than that. Lady In Red’s sire SVJ Sahara’s Dream is one of the best kept secrets in the Simmental breed. Neil Hannon has made two trips to Pennsylvania and feels that he is one of the best Dream On sons that he has ever seen. SVJ Sahara’s Dream also sired the bull calf, SVJ Red Bull who is on the side of SVJ Burning Delight who was the top selling lot in Denver in 2010 purchased by Silverstone Farm. SVJ Burning Delight and SVJ Red Bull were Grand Champion Cow/Calf at the Ohio State Fair and Red Bull went on to be Division Champion bull calf. All of the ground work is done! Buy her, enjoy her and see what she can do for your program.

This is another good example that your home work is already done. A Power Drive dam out of the great S&S Sahara cow, who was Grand Champion at the West Virginia State Fair, Eastern Nationals, Keystone International and the North American junior show. It doesn’t get much better than that on the female side. The sire side by D&D High Mark puts the icing on the cake and it is really sweet! High Mark out of the great Trade Mark bull and High Marks dam D&D High Profile, Ohio State Fair Grand Champion female, put all the parts in the right places. Don’t let this one get away.

It is with great pride to offer SVJ Princess X151 for sale. This is the type of female you should be buying not selling. Many of our visitors feel she is in a class all of her own. Her mom, SVJ Stylish One, excelled in the show ring and was never beaten in class including the North American and Denver. Style, natural spring of rib and volume reminds us of her mother. Clint Woodrow and Greg Walthall feel the really next great future male or female will have Stylish One in their pedigree. Don’t let this one get away. This type is too hard to find!

Her volume, her front end, her hip, her spring of rib, her profile, etc., etc., etc. Explorer really worked and he could become the next Dream On. I know these are big shoes to fill. Sierra is a rare find, don’t let her get away from you!
This heifer’s sire, SVJ Wild Fires Dream, is one of the most consistent bulls that we have ever used. The mating of him with a Power Drive daughter has really clicked. Ask Roger Allen about Power Drive cattle and he will tell you that they are the best all around females that he has ever seen. X44 is the type you want to build a herd around. A NOTE FROM SALE MANAGEMENTIt has been a pleasure to work with the Ante Up group this summer and fall putting together a group of cattle that will rival any sale in the USA this sale season! I was
extremely diligent in my selection of females and herdbulls for this great sale and I think you will find a wide variety of genetics that will move your program in the right direc-tion. This year the group is truly “opening the gate” to their replacement females and is holding nothing back. You can ask anyone of the consignors, and they will all tell you that they have put their best foot forward to make this the best Ante Up sale event ever.
Special thanks to Gary and Heather of Hearthstone Farm for once again hosting this event at your historic and prestigious farm! We are all looking forward to your hospital-ity.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any one of the consignors or anyone here at Genetics Solution LLC. We really believe that this is one auction that you cannot afford to miss! See you sale day!

SVJ Power Surge x Wild Fire is a match made in heaven. All of Wild Fire’s bull calves have been sold to major breeders both purebred and club calves. Valerie really named the bull correctly “Unique” how true it is! We have traveled the country side at major shows and farms and have not seen a young bull with such dimension, stature, bone, style, rib and cor-rectness and he more importantly moves very free and easy. The SVJ Power Surge outcross has no Dream On or Trademark in the pedigree. We are extremely proud and take pleasure in offering this great bull for sale in our 5th Ante Up Production Sale. We are retaining 1/3 semen interest in this bull and also SVJ Farm will retain posession of the bull through Januray 2011 at no additional cost to the buyer in order for the bull to be shown.

Finding the right genetic package is probably the hardest problem to overcome in the cattle business. Once you find it, it must breed true and most important of all, it must be consis-tent, consistent, consistent. This breeding has it all. You can travel the country over looking for a bull of this quality. You would be out of gas, out of time and out of money. This bull has been sitting in Amity, Pa., growing, developing and now will be in Urbana, Ohio at the Ante Up Sale. The mating of Triple C Lizzie and BMR Explorer is as good as it gets. Expedi-tion’s full brother, SVJ Excursion was Reserve Calf Champion at the American Royal and Calf Champion at the North American and Denver. SVJ Lizzie W4, full sister to Expedition was Calf Champion at the American Royal and the North American. The structure, style, beauty and super smooth shoulders and clean front end make him stand out about the competition. It is worth your time to come to the Ante Up Sale and look at this bull and vision what he can do for your breeding program. This AI quality bull will make his mark, retaining 1/3 semen interest in Expedition.

THE HISTORY OF SVJ FARM AND D&D CATTLE COMPANY
I (D&D Simmentals, Duane Snee) bought my first Simmental bull, a Single Nick Double Time son in the first PA Fall Classic Sale in the early 1980’s. What a delight it was to watch this young bull grow. I mated him to 30 Angus cows and those calves were the heaviest I had ever weaned off. I was really excited about the Simmental breed.
Sometimes dumb luck is better than brilliance. My yellow and brown bull got hurt and I needed a clean-up bull. Ken and Jeannie White had a red and white Simmental bull in the PA Fall State Sale that year and I bought him. Funny how things work, he was Reserve Grand Champion bull at the sale and he brought more dollars than the champion and I was the “lucky” dumb buyer.
I never dreamed that I would get black calves. I knew nothing about diluter genes, dominant and recessive genes, but I GOT BLACK CALVES AND I WAS ELATED!
Those black calves sold like candy to a child. Dave Stough was managing the PA Fall Sale and had started his Black Magic Sale. He invited me to consign cattle to his sale and it started a great friendship. I learned more about the cattle business from Dave in a short period of time than I had in several years on my own.
By the early 90’s embryo transfer was starting to be popular and we flushed our first black cow in 1992. Simmental bulls were becoming hard to sell because people felt they would have calving problems. It was very apparent that we needed to lower our birth weights and make them ALL BLACK!
In the late 90’s, a black Simmental bull by the name of DUNK came along. He was very moderate and showed some promise to down size and lower the birth weights of our traditional Simmental cattle. I bred so many Dunk cattle and showed them off that people called and asked me about the bull because they thought I owned him!
Our first Mr. Dunk calves were born in 1997 and we were quite pleased. Dave Stough came to select cattle for the PA Fall Sale and we showed him two heifers, one of which was the future mother of Sahara. Dave thought these females were too good for the State Sale and should go to Louisville or Denver. I told him my consultant said if you are even going to get anywhere in the cattle industry you have to sell the good ones. He replied who is your consultant? My answer was, you are! You are the only one that ever comes to western PA to look at cattle. Sahara’s mother sold in that sale to the Paul Shaffer family of Lebanon, Pa.
After the Shaffer family got her bred, I asked them if she had a heifer calf if we could have first choice to buy her back. Well, her first calf was a heifer and we bought her sight unseen. That’s how much I believed in the heifer. NOW, SVJ COMES ALONG.
Valerie and her son Justin were looking to buy a show heifer. They had shown steers in the past at county and local levels but they were looking to do more at the state and national levels. It’s easy to spend someone else’s money and it’s even better when it works out. Valerie bought the resulting heifer from the Shaffers. S&S Sahara arrived in the fall and she just kept getting better and better. By August 1st I asked Valerie and Justin, do you know how good this female is? They said we aren’t sure. My answer was she could be a National Champion. Valerie replied don’t tell me that, I will worry. WORRY IS SOMETHING VALERIE CAN DO. But this female did it all.Grand Champion Female at the West Virginia State Fair, Eastern Nationals, Keystone International, NAILE Junior Show.
The Sahara cow is a rare find. Her bulls and heifers are as equally good. You seldom see this in a breeding program. That was in 2002. Since then our show string has been 50% Sahara influence.
We are always striving at D&D and SVJ Farm to improve our genetics, performance and even maternal traits. We want to be able to contribute to the Simmental and the SimAngus business. As we embark on improvements for 2011 we would also like to thank you for your continued support in our program.
The last two years have been the highlight of our breeding program. We were Premier Exhibitor in Denver the last two years and Premier Breeder and Exhibitor the past two years at the Ohio State Fair and were just recently named Premier Breeder and Exhibitor at the Keystone International in 2010.
We had the honor and privilege of having the top selling lots at the NAILE and the NWSS. We are committed to the cattle business and one of our goals is to bring calving ease to the
Simmental breed. We feel we are making great progress through the SVJ Power Surge bull who has been a trait leader for low birth weight and calving ease yet he excels in performance. His progeny, Westfall Voyager and BMR Explorer are also following in his footsteps.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome all of you to the fifth edition of the Ante Up Sale. If we can be of any service, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We take pride in being a part of the breeding and developing of our current herd sire BMR Explorer. His calves are the talk of the country. His sire, Westfall Voyager, was sired by our bull SVJ Power Surge. We sold 1/2 interest in SVJ Power Surge to Dave Nichols of Nichols Farm, Bridgewater, Iowa. Power Surge was out of our National Champion cow, S&S Sahara whose dam was also bred by us. Sahara was Grand Champion at the West Virginia State Fair, Eastern Nationals, Keystone International and the North American Junior Show. SVJ Power Surge, her first son was a trait leader for low birth weight and excelled in performance. Last year’s Explorer calves were the talk of the show circuit. His daughter, SVJ Lizzie was Calf Champion at the American Royal, North American and Reserve Calf Champion in Denver. Explorer’s bull calf, SVJ Excursion was Reserve Calf Champion at the American Royal and Grand Champion Calf at the North American. Many of our sale cattle are bred to Explorer and several offspring will be sold in the Ante Up Sale. We are offering the spring 2011 60 day breeding pasture rights for BMR Explorer. Thanks goes to Hudson Pines Farm for purchasing the 2010 spring breeding rights on BMR Explorer and we are excited about the calves out of their great breeding program. The purchaser of the breeding rights is responsible for the pick up and delivery cost of Explorer.
