INTRODUCTION TO BRAKS
It is one of the most importantdevice.
Used to retard or stop the vehicle. Kinetic energy translated to heat
energy.
Kinetic energy increases with thesquare of the velocity.

ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system that allows the wheels on a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface according to driver inputs while braking, ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and decreases stopping distances on dry and slippery surfaces.
HISTORY OF ABS
ABS was first developed for Aircraft in1929 byFrench Automobile Et Aircraft Pioneer GabrielVoisin.
The German Companies BOSCH & Mercedes-Benz pioneered the first electronic version for use on Mercedes-Benz Cars in1936.
In 1978 Bosch And Mercedes-Benz Introduced the first completely Electronic 4 Wheel Multi-Channel ABS system in trucks and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
In 1988 BMW became the world’s firstmotorcycle manufacturer to introduce anelectronic/hydraulic ABS system, this ontheir BMW K100.
In 1992 Honda launched its first ABS systemthis on the ST1 100 Pan European.
CONSTRUCTION
1. ABS control module [ECU]
2. Hydraulic pump & valves
3. Wheel speed sensor
4. Break caliper
HOW DOES ABS WORK
Sensors at each of the four wheels sense the rotation of the wheelSensors ECU releases brake line pressure wheel turns
again. then ECU applies pressure again stops the rotation of the wheel
releases it again and so on.This keeps the wheel just at the limit before locking up and
skidding no matter.ABS system can maintain extremely high static pressure and must be
disabled before attempting repairs.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF
ABSAdvantages1. It allows the driver to maintain directional stabilityand control over steering during braking.
2. Safe and effective.
3. Automatically changes the brake fluid pressure ateach wheel to maintain optimum brake performance.
4. ABS absorbs the unwanted turbulence shock wavesand modulates the pulses thus permitting the wheelto continue turning under maximum braking pressure.
Disadvantages1.Cost - An ABS can be expensive to maintain. Expensive sensors on each wheel can cost hundreds of dollars to fix if they get out of calibration or develop other problems. For some, this is a big reason to decline an ABS in a vehicle.
2.System damage - A variety of factors can cause the system to be less effective, and can present with everything from shuddering of the vehicle to loud noises while trying to stop
