ENERGY INDEPENDENCY BY ARCHITECTURE

Page 4: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Motivation

Up in the sky are the clouds that will bring the storm to our civilization. In thecenter is the shelter of the future - a house that is independent and uses only theabundant renewable resources: the Sun, the Wind and the Rain. Let's anchor thehouse to the mother Earth and use the anchor as energy battery. The growingseeds in the ground are three of the big upcoming changes for our civilization. Then horizontally and on the surface of the mother Earth are the drivers for theinspiration – the nature and the people.

Clouds

Many new aspects surround the future architecture. It must be a new, smarter generation, responsible and adequate to challenges of the civilization.

The Heart

The hart of the Autonomous Building will be the Intelligent Box that will work oncollecting, storing and distributing the energy necessary for the house accordingto availabilities and needs.

Cooker

The sun-concentrator heats-up the pan to temperatures above 250 C . The same photovoltaic high-temperature concentrator is used to make electricity that in turn with the help of electrolysis is converted into H2 . The H2 is stored in the highly space efficient metal-hydride storage. The H2 is used to power the suncooker when the Sun is not shining. The gas burner uses H2, too.The electrolysis produces oxygen that is released in the room. Just add water andhave pancakes.

Zero Waste Home

It was said somewhere that the composting toilet is the most environmentallyfriendly discovery of the 20th century. Such toilet can be connected to thecompost machine for vegetative waste and paper. For the animal food waste wewould need a dog or a cat but they did not want to be in the picture. Plasticpackaging s can be turned back into … petrol. Another option for the plasticwaste would be to turn them into new packaging with 3D printers or mini blowers.

New Generation Building Structures

The 3D printing of buildings is not a new idea. We need such technology. What material? Some sort of foamed polymer, metal, glass, ceramic? New materials needed. Once the shell structure is completed we will integrate in it the installations forthe autonomous buildings in the same way as cars are manufactured. Robots are the future building workers. This is the way for fast transition of the whole towns to autonomy.

Zero Energy Pavilion

Research facility for various technologies for seasonal (summer–winter) heathenergy storage as a solution for passive heating. Air duct going deep into the ground is used for passive cooling in the summer. This passive cooling can supply constant temperature of about 15° C irrespective of outside ambient temperature. The roof of the Zero Energy Pavilion will collect the Sun energy with the system of concentrators, which produces electricity and heath enclosed in a glazing.

Autonomous House

You have already seen what we want to do but here is a bit more of what ispossible:- Corner edge wind turbine. Great deal of wind energy is concentrated inthe edges of the buildings and we want to capture it and use it.- Home lift. Interior stairs use too much space and a small lift will optimizethe living space- Light small car that is charged by the energy generated from the house(electric, H2, compressed air). The car is inseparable part of the whole concept and can beused as energy storage!

Autonomous Flats

9 billion people. The high-rise building is the solution - small footstep and bigfaçade for energy production. The Idea: Building stem with elevators, where we attach ready-made buildingmodules. The modules are assembled entirely in the factory and are deliveredto the stem … with balloons by air! By the way there is serious discussion aboutcargo transportation with balloons, the main obstacle for now is – cheap helium.Attention: the small car is lifted by the elevator and parked on the floor. The SkyGarage is already a reality.

Autonomous Waterhouse

People will look how to inhabit the seas in more comfortable way. The autonomic house technologies transferred to water. The house is built ongyroscope system that keeps it horizontal independent of the waves. The samesystem will make energy from the same waves. Additional energy sources: windand the Sun. Possibility to grow food …

Man Teaching Robot How To Grow Tomatoes

In the next ten years the household robots will be wide spread reality. This willlead to changes in our lifestyles and will accelerate the de-urbanization process. This ironic drawing is not far fetched.

Flying Balls

Most likely we will be flying not driving in the future. Great deal of research for thefuture of the transportation is pointing to the direction of personal flying vehicles. If we find suitable technology – affordable, save and environmentally friendly – thechanges will be tremendous. This will definitely have an effect on the buildings. The autonomous buildings will be complete and not even roads will lead to them!

All Ways Lead To Bionics

Inspite of the great technological advances with the help of the sciences of physics and chehmistry in the long term the future will be for the bionics. Nature has mastered the art of solving complex tasks. Similar challenges will lay ahead for the buildings of the future. One special "leaf" can solve most task inexpensively and in small scale – dynamic sun protection, production of energy with sun tracking, cooling with evaporation etc. The building design could mimic the DNA design where the building are "trees" designed to be inhabited.

PART TWO

FOOD INDEPENDENCY BY ARCHITECTURE

Page 32: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE
Page 33: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Urban development expanded as a result of the fossil energy. What is next? Do we have scenarios for the future of architecture and sustainable living without oil?

Page 34: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

FOOD FACTS:

Food travels a lot burning oil

Food depends on oil

We use to eat animal, they eat oil dependant food

High crops need a lot of water

Local food producers cant beat automated grand plantations

Chinese already buy land in Africa to feed their own nation

We burn forests to grow plants

Page 35: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

ENERGY FACTS:

End of oil is on the horizon

Energy price rises exponentially

Nations make wars for oil

Burning fossils cause climate changes

Pipes corridors rule the global politics

Energy needs increese

ARCHITECTURE FACTS:

Buildings use 40% of the global energy

Megapolises grow because of the oil technologies

There are not big ideas in the present architecture

Buildings depend on infrastructure

Architecture services finance balloons

Life cycle of the buildings is not in account

Stop This : Start That

Food and Energy independency means deep change on human habits and traditions. It is a new sustainable culture.

Plant Based Food

There are huge varieties of plants, that can grow in pots... We can grow plant based food in pots!

Page 43: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Page 45: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Double Water Skin Flamed Fasade*This transparent cushion is a complex solution for vertical garden structures. In the summer through the outer layer running water is taking the heat from the sun and only daylight passes inside. The heat is taken into the seasonal storage. In the winter, the same heat is taken back through the inner layer, heating the inner space....

Page 46: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE
Page 47: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

IntegrityVertical farms and the living space can collaborate in sustainable way for cooling, heating, fresh air and other energy aspects.

Page 48: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE
Page 49: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Return Of InvestmentArchitecture, producing plant based food is a reasonable investment!!! Food prices will grow, being function of the fossil based energy. Just check the food and energy expanses for the next 20 years!

Sustaining Autonomous FutureFood and energy autonomous architecture will be followed by new urban concepts.

Page 54: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE
Page 55: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Autonomous CitiesThe old oil-dependant cities will be transformed in a new green and sustainable cities. Independent comminutes will change the social and political status quo.

Page 56: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Vertical Farming House

The plant based food produced from the vertical garden and fruit trees next to the house is sufficient for the family food needs. The house is energy and food independent. In the basement is placed the seasonal heat storage* and water tanks for pouring. The vertical garden structure is made by doble skin water flamed facade*.

Page 57: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE
Page 58: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Vertical Farming Sea Platform

The vertical farming is a crucial solution for food independency living in the sea. The sea platform provides plant based food and sea based food. The main energy needs are covered from the sea temperature and the shaking of the waves.

Page 59: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Vertical Farming Flats

Every apartment has its own garden with fruit trees and vegetables, planted on a special rotating pots. The building is slim. The special glass facade is providing sufficient lightfor the plants, controlling heating and cooling in the whole year. Sun reflecting system sends sun rays deep into the space.

Page 61: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE
Page 62: ANTONOMOUS ARCHITECTURE

Vertical Farming Restaurant

This restaurant produces salads and pizza growing plants in its vertical garden. The farming system movement is entirely mechanical: the energy is provided from the wind generators and mechanical clock-like mechanism. The cooking heat is provided from the sun concentrators. There are several systems to store the energy. The building is totally energy independent.
