The month of April not only brings spring, but a plethora of

events which are good and bad, depending on whom you ask:

Tax Day, April Fool’s Day, and MLB Opening Day. In addition

we have many religious holidays and dedicated awareness ob-

servations such as Financial Literacy Month, Poetry Month and

Volunteer Month; which reminds me that, the Scottsdale Shad-

ows Library is still looking for volunteers.

It has been a very busy past couple of months and we’ve had

some changes to the RCI board.

RCI Meeting

For those residents who could not attend the last RCI meeting,

new officers were elected on March 15, 2016. I would like to

take this opportunity to thank both Shirley Waldvogel, the for-

mer President of RCI, and Jack Terry, the former Vice Presi-

dent of RCI, dating back to 2014. It was a pleasure and an

honor to work with two board members that cared so much

about the community and its residents.

I would like to congratulate your new RCI Board members;

Bret Zahn, President of Scottsdale Shadows IV, is now also

the President of RCI. Fernando Daluiso, Treasurer of Scotts-

dale Shadows I, is now also the Vice-President of RCI. Bill

Katz, President of Scottsdale Shadows I, remains as RCI’s

Treasurer and Secretary. I would like to welcome the new of-

ficers and look forward to working closely with them to keep

Scottsdale Shadows a community that you, the residents, can

call home.

GM’s Desk - Continued from page 1

Pools

The new umbrellas for Pool 2 and Pool 3

should be arriving shortly; if not already here by

the time you read this article. The on-site work

for Pool 2 will not take place until later in the

spring as final preparations are being made.

Replacement parts for pool 3 have been or-

dered from the original manufacture of the

dome and should be arriving this month. Pool

3 will be closed a couple of days for the instal-

lation of new panels. RCI will provide notice, at

minimum, one week ahead of time before clos-

ing the pool.

Golf Course

Landscaping is currently working on changing

the location of certain sprinkler heads around

the golf course. In some cases they are adding

sprinklers to cover additional surface area that

was previously deficient; along with adding

more Bermuda seed within the putting greens.

There were some residents whom were asking

if there was a pipe leak by hole #3 on the

sloped area by Building 26. The pipes are all in

working condition. The excessive amount of

water that you see from time to time is due to

the boiler drain pipes from Building 26. When

the property was originally built they construct-

ed the building’s boiler pipe to egress in that

particular area by the golf course. So, unfortu-

nately it is not something that we can control

but it only occurs on a limited basis and for the

most part the water stays at the base of the

slope.

RCI Audit

Butler /Hansen will be conducting RCI’s audit

again this year. They were on-site in March for

a couple of days and have another couple of

weeks before they return with our results.

Once this is completed, RCI will hold a meeting

to discuss their findings. As always, residents

are encouraged to attend. I will work on putting

together an explanation on how RCI functions

in relation to residents and members and how it

all works together to form the community.

City of Scottsdale Information

City information is just a phone call away by

dialing 480-312-3111. The city’s information

line connects you with live operators who know

about event, traffic and meeting information, or

they’ll connect you to the right people for fur-

ther assistance. The line is open from 8 a.m. to

5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and for special

events as publicized. So the next time you

have a question about the city, dial the city in-

formation line: 480-312-3111.

In Conclusion

I am sad to say that Mike Caponetto, RCI’s for-

mer President and Scottsdale Shadows V for-

mer President passed away in late March. He

was RCI’s President from 2008 to 2012. How-

ever, he served on Regime V’s board long be-

fore that. He will be deeply missed. Mike had

a wonderful sense of humor and was just a

good person. Ironically enough if Mike wasn’t

jokingly throwing “metaphorical’ jabs at you he

didn’t like you, but I don’t know if I ever knew

someone he didn’t like. I had the privilege of

getting to know Mike Caponetto as a friend, not

just as the RCI President, and I took away

many valuable lessons from our conversations

which I will always cherish.

Have a wonderful month of April!

Sincerely,

Ramiro Wong, CMCA, AMS

Meet an Author

Scottsdale Shadows Page 10

Resident Patricia L. Brooks (Bldg. 29) launched her second memoir Three

Husbands and a Thousand Boyfriends in January 2016. This book shares her story of

love addiction, domestic violence and post-traumatic stress. She converses regularly on

these critical topics with law enforcement, victim’s advocates, university students,

church communities and other interested parties seeking recovery and information in

these vital areas.

While her friends danced and partied at Woodstock, Patricia donned her first wed-

ding dress. This poignant and moving memoir follows Patricia’s dangerous journey

while offering her raw reflections and conversations with God and a glimpse into the

heartbreaking chaos she survived. For every woman who has followed her heart in-

stead of her head, Patricia’s story offers hope and inspiration.

Patricia created the highly successful Scottsdale Society of Women Writers over ten years ago and continues to

serve as its president. She is also a member of the Arizona Authors Association, the Phoenix Writers Club, the

Willamette Writers, the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence and the Women’s Association of

Addiction Treatment.

As founder of Brooks Goldmann Publishing Company, LLC, with her husband Earl, Patricia serves as a publishing

consultant. Her first memoir is entitled Gifts of Sisterhood - journey from grief to gratitude. Patricia earned a pres-

tigious Arizona Authors Association Literary Contest Non-fiction award for this work.

Patricia has lived in Arizona 40 years, but her heart is still in Michigan at the Straits of Mackinac where she grew

up. She has been happily married to Earl L. Goldmann for over 10 years. They have lived in Scottsdale Shadows

for 14 years and share their love of reading, foreign films and good food. She is currently writing her third memoir

honoring her spiritual transformation.

Patricia has been an adjunct faculty associate at Arizona State University, W. P. Carry

School of Business. She has a Masters Degree in Organizational Management, the Ad-

vanced Toastmasters designation and has been named to Who’s Who Among America’s

Teachers.

Patricia takes the reader on her healing journey from fear to self-love and trust in God. Anyone who knows the

destruction addiction causes can gain hope, insight and strength from reading her book. Elisabeth Davies,

MC, Author of Good Things Emotional Healing Journal: Addiction

Brooks' sharing of her most intimate story with the world can only bring light and hope to the reader. I applaud

Patricia for her courage to help others, men and women alike. Barbara Nicholson-Brown, Founder, Art of
