OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

Submission of an application does not guarantee inclusion in the race. A maximum of 50 vessels will be permitted to enter. Consideration is based on applicant’s theme, costume, propulsion, vessel design and on a first come, first served basis.

1) All participants must be 18 years of age or older. All participating crew members must sign the enclosed waiver of liability. Signed waivers must accompany completed entry forms. If a crew member is substituted at any time, he or she cannot participate until a waiver is signed and turned in to the event coordinator. You are strongly encouraged to complete all necessary paperwork before the Captain's meeting the night before the event.

2) U. S. Coast Guard approved personal floatation devices (PFD’s, life jackets or vests) must be worn at all times during the race and must be in good condition and of proper size. All participants must wear the device prior to entering the water, including during the insertion and removal of the craft from the water. This includes team members that do not intend to ride on the craft during the race but are helping with pre-race and post race preparation. If you are in the water, you must wear a personal flotation device.

3) Teams must consist of a minimum of 2 and maximum of 10 participants. Each group must be capable of handling all the blame for losing and sinking!

4) The purpose of this event is to showcase your ability to design and build a water craft to travel approximately 250 yards in the water. You may NOT utilize a commercially designed or distributed watercraft. Powerboats, canoes, kayaks, rafts, skiffs or other commercially designed craft will NOT qualify. Your vessel must NOT be commercially designed or built to travel on water. The vessels must be powered by human energy. NO engines, motors (including battery operated) or paddle wheels will be accepted. Sails, paddles and oars are acceptable. The decision of the judges is final.

5) All teams must be able to carry or otherwise transport their vessels to and from the launch area. Once vessel is launched; your team may push, pull, paddle, shimmy or sway your vessel to the finish line.

6) A 25 foot towrope is mandatory for each vessel.

7) All vessels must have an easy exit in case of an emergency. Any design which hinders the evacuation of all occupants from the vessel in an emergency or otherwise hinders occupants from jumping clear of the vessel shall be prohibited.

8) All participants must wear tie-on / lace- up shoes. Docksiders, sandals, ballet slippers, flip-flops or any other footwear is NOT permitted.

9) All vessels must remain inside the designated race course. Any vessel straying outside the course is subject to U. S. Coast Guard restrictions. You vessel must be able to float approximately 500 yards.

10) ALCOHOL POSSESSION/CONSUMPTION PROHIBITED. The presence of alcohol on your vessel and/or the consumption of alcohol by a participant prior to or during race will result in immediate disqualification. Any violation of this rule may also be a violation of state law and the violator may be subject to enforcement of same. Registration fee will not be refunded!

11) Judges reserve the right to require modifications of any and all vessels occupants to ensure that the event is conducted with “good taste”. This is wholly subjective, but intended to protect the good companies which are sponsoring and running the event. Inappropriate entries which refuse to respond to any request of the judges to modify the vessel or costumes will be disqualified. The decision of the judges is final!

12) Teams are responsible for the proper maintenance or disposal of their vessels. Teams must collect and properly dispose of any parts of the vessel which breaks off the vessel before, during or after the race. No part of your vessel may be left in the water.

13) It is the responsibility of each team to dispose of all trash from their staging area at the conclusion of the event. All efforts are to be made to make sure that debris (tape, water bottles, Styrofoam, etc.) is cleaned up and does not end up in the water. Water balloons are therefore prohibited.

14) A Captains Party will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016. Important information will be distributed and/or collected at that time. All vessels must be physically present for display at the Captains Party and must be manned by at least two (2) participants for the duration of the Captains Party.
