Ribs, nachos and ice cream all blended perfectly
in one room to make the Madison-Rivergate
Area Chamber of Commerce’s (MRACC) 20th
annual “A Taste of Madison” on Septem-
ber 22 simply delicious for our com-
munity! This is our second biggest
fundraiser of the year, next to the
Golf Tournament in April, and
thanks to our sponsors, vendors,
and attendees, we brought in approximately
$8,000 from the event to help with
community events such as “Clean
Up Madison” Days (the next
one will be November 14)
and “Mayor’s Night Against
Crime, as well as maintaining
Madison signage and more.
See page 3 from a list of
the night’s winners, participants
and sponsors.
Next year, we’ll be “21 and
Having Fun” so mark your cal-
endars now for
September 27, 2016!
Please plan to join
us for our October
Member Luncheon
on October 15th at 11:45 am at St. Joseph Parish Life Center.
John Alexander, Tennessee Career Center and Larry Franco, Veter-
ans Employment Representative, will be our guest speakers, and will
tell us what we as business people should know about our United
States veterans and what we can do to help.
In October we are also asking all members to bring donations for
the CCM. Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and they have a
lot of boxes to fill (see page 4 for a list of items to bring.)
Crave Catering, our Taste of Madison Best Side Dish and Best
Booth Display winner, will be catering the meal. Cost is $13.00
(add .50 for credit cards). RSVP Here.
LongHorn Steakhouse won the coveted
People’s Choice Food Award—
for the second year in a row!
Attendees of the Taste choose ABRA Auto Body and Glass as the best Business Fair Booth.

Chamber President-Elect Named to New
Mayor’s Transition Team Not only does Nashville have its first woman Mayor, but it now has
its first David McMurry helping to guide its transition! Just days
after Megan Barry was elected as Mayor, David McMurry, who
works for Roof Doctors and is the President-Elect of our Chamber
Board, was appointed to Barry’s 42-member Transition Team.
Mayor Barry said, “I’m grateful that President-elect David
McMurry has agreed to serve on my transition team. I want to make
sure that the Madison-Rivergate community is a partner in Nash-
ville’s prosperity and progress. I believe David’s experience in the
Madison-Rivergate Chamber will help him to inform decisions
throughout the transition period that can effectuate that partnership.”
The goals of the team, according the Mayor’s office are:
Ensuring a seamless transition from a Dean to a Barry Administration
and making certain that there is no disruption in the business of the City.
Identifying and prioritizing policies, opportunities and challenges that
are important to the City.
Evaluating and making recommendations concerning the organizational
structure of the Mayor’s office.
Identifying potential candidates for key governmental positions, includ-
ing the various upcoming Metro boards, commissions and agencies
Having David on the team is not only wonderful for him, but for
Madison! Congratulations David on this great accomplishment!
Smith Bros. Celebrating Four Generations of Business in Madison Ask Bobby Smith how long his family has been successful in small business and he’ll tell you, “since the pilgrims hit
the beach.” And here in Tennessee, they picked washing cars for their success. Smith is continuing the 57 year old
tradition of washing cars with Smith Bros. Car Wash in Madison and 67 years of "helping Nashville shine."
His grandfather, Clell, and great uncle, Harris, started helping “Nashville Shine” with Smitty’s Gas Station and hand
wash in 1947. In 1958, as the original Smith Bros., they
started the car washing business, expanding it throughout the
years to become nationally-known in the car washing indus-
try for its techniques and technology. “His car wash was the
biggest in the Southeast when it was built here in Madison
(in 1968),” said Smith.
Today, Bobby’s family owns 15 Smith Bros. locations across
the Middle Tennessee area. Bobby owns two in Madison,
both on Gallatin Road, and one in Hendersonville. His sons,
Travis and Carter, are making it a fourth-generation business
by helping run the locations.
It’s not just the soft cloth car washes that keep people loyal to
Bobby’s 222 South Gallatin Pk. Madison location but his staff, which are considered family themselves. Cindy and
Michele, have been working at Smith Bros. for a combined 72 years! When asked how he has managed to keep such
loyal employees Bobby said " Simply treat them right...like family!" Customers can always expect to be greeted with
a smiling face as well as a “what scent would you like today?”
To pay back the loyalty of his customers, Bobby decided to ‘spruce’ up his little corner of Madison with new paint on
the walls, a new mural and some landscaping. “The family-feel is coming back to this community and I want to help,”
he said.
Smith Bros. Car Wash is open Monday through Saturday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm,
weather depending.
