Souderton Area Community Education will be offering a variety of in-person summer activities. All programs will follow the current District Health & Safety guidelines: https://www.soudertonsd.org/district/2020-2021-school-year/health-safety-plans Please read the information in this brochure carefully. We have had to make some changes and adjustments to our summer programs as we continue to follow all Health and Safety Guidelines being used by the District. We will communicate to all program participants if anything changes through the summer. REMEMBER:

2021 SACE Summer Programs

CLUB ADVENTURE WORKSHOPS

The Club Adventure Workshop Program offers enrichment opportunities for children who don’t need a full day of camp, but would like to use their summer to explore different areas of interest. A variety of age appropriate workshops are scheduled through the summer open to various age students (check individual workshop listings for age ranges). Whether kids want to spend a week testing the technology expertise, creating arts and crafts, expanding their knowledge of science and nature or exploring other talents, parents can create a summer of activities specific to their child’s interests and schedule. The half-day workshops meet in the mornings as Souderton Area High School.

SUMMER COMMUNITY PROGRAMS SACE provides summer activities for community members of all ages, including swimming lessons, pool rentals, adult grass volleyball league, and Driver’s Education classes. For online registration to all programs go to: https://www.soudertonsd.org/community/education

Summer Adventure is a full-day camp open to students from the community who have completed kindergarten through 6th Grade. Campers explore a fun adventure theme through games, songs, crafts, stories, outdoor activities, food, trips and their imagination. The program offers a structured day of engaging activities while keeping in mind what kids need most in the summer- time to be a kid! DATES: Monday-Friday June 21- August 20, 2021 No Camp July 5 LOCATIONS: West Broad Street Elementary Oak Ridge Elementary 342 West Broad Street 465 Moyer Road Souderton, PA 18964 Harleysville, PA 19438 CAMP THEME: “Behind the Scenes” Time for “Action!” with our summer camp as campers learn all about their favorite movies. Each week camp will focus on a particular type of movie. Campers will be able to dress up like their favorite characters, read stories related to the theme, learn how the movies were made and create artwork reflecting the films. Campers may even write, direct or star in their own movie!

to spend one morning each week at the

Souderton Area High School pool. Camp

chaperones will accompany the campers

SUMMER 2021- PROGRAM POLICIES

REGISTRATION POLICY

• To register online for Summer Adventure Day Camp, Trips

and Club Adventure Workshops go to soudertonsd.org/

community/education. For mail in registration complete

the registration forms found on pages 7-10. ALL CAMPERS

AND WORKSHOP ATTENDEES MUST ALSO COMPLETE

THE INSURANCE FORM FOUND ON PAGE 8. SACE reserves

the right to return incomplete forms which may delay

registration. A separate registration form and insurance form

is required for each child being registered.

• Registration and payment for these SACE programs may

be made online at soudertonsd.org/community/education:

Aquatics, Driver Education, Volleyball League or over the

phone.

• All payments are due prior to the start of camp. Online registration

will close one week prior to start of

camp or workshop, or when activities fill. All registration is on

a first come basis. Contact SACE office for payment plan, if

necessary.

• Tax Receipts will be mailed upon request.

REFUND POLICY

• A REFUND is when you ask for your money back after payment has been made.

• A $25 non-refundable Registration Fee is included for each camp, trip, workshop and SACE summer class.

• A refund will be granted (less the $25 Registration Fee per activity) with written notice received in the SACE office two weeks prior to the scheduled camp/day trip/workshop/class. A 30-day notice is required for Trip Week refunds due to the high demand and limited seating.

CHANGE POLICY

• A CHANGE is when one day or activity is switched or substituted for another with no money refunded.

• If you require your child’s participation for a day or activity to be exchanged for another, you must call the SACE office with your request 48 hours in advance to allow time to process your request.

• Changes will be granted only when availability exists. There will be no refund of payments for changes that cannot be made.

• Two changes may be made on a child’s registration with no charge. There is a surcharge of $25 for every charge after the first two.

Club Adventure Workshops provide challenging,

creative learning opportunities for elementary and early

middle school students. Whether it’s music, art,

cooking, sewing, technology, science or more, there’s a

fun workshop for all. Check ages for each session.

Secret Agent: Spies Like Us Step into the shoes of a detective—uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Become a

super sleuth and learn clever ways of performing tasks in this hands-on view of the science that spies use!

Me, My “Selfie” and I Artwork inspired by YOU! Create artwork that is an expression and reflection of yourself. Instructors will guide

young artists in this multi-media class as they design pieces in pottery glass and more. Creativity knows no

boundaries as students express their dreams, personalities and ideas using a variety of tools. Artwork will be

fired in studio kilns ready for pick up at District office approximately two weeks after completion of class.

Summer Band and Strings At this time, there is no Summer Band

NASA: Journey to Outer Space Mad Science has teamed up with NASA in a quest for exploration! Take

a voyage of discovery as we examine planets, moons, create a dry ice

comet and even participate in a rocket launch!

Fins, Feathers and Fur If you are wild about animals and love to create, then this is the perfect class for you! Join us and explore clay,

pottery, glass and more to craft works of art all dedicated to our feathered, furry friends. Artwork will be fired at

the studio’s kilns and ready for pick up approximately three weeks after the completion of the class. Projects

should be picked up at the Souderton District Administrative Office

Radical Reactions and Detective Science Mix up Potions and create chemical reactions. Gather and test crime scene clues. Design chromatography

Loose in the Lab Kids will love this exciting, fun-filled, week of science

activities, including making a lava lamp test tube, mixing

up chemical reactions, creating a volcano, and making a

chalkboard. Young Science Explorers will build a solar

oven to make treats, launch pom-poms from a catapults,

create a motorized invention and lots more.

Clay Camp

Getting Dirty has never been so much fun! Coils, slabs and pinch pots come together

to make fun, functional artwork that are sure to become treasured keepsakes.

Administrative Office.




Super STEAM Workshop

Will move full STEAM as they explore many Science,

Technology, Engineering, Art and Math challenges. They’ll

problem-solve and work on activities together as they learn

WEEK 5: July 19 -23

Final Frontiers: Sea and Space You can explore the mysterious realms of sea and space as

you enter the exciting worlds of marine biology and

astronomy! Dive in and examine weird wonders of the sea,

observe the anatomy of a real fish and learn the ancient

technique of gyotaku or “fish rubbing,” and discover the

ocean’s living fossils. The blast off to space and stars as you

make and out-of-this-world solar system model, prepare for

lift off as you build and launch your own stomp rocket while

learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion.

Grades 2-6 Cost: $230 Instructor: Science Explorers



Glass Fusing is Fun! Whether you’re a fused glass newbie or a rock star,

you’ll love the glass artwork made by you in this exciting workshop. Experienced instructors are ready to

show you how to handle glass safely and guide young artists to design colorful, creative artwork. Pieces

will be fired in our kilns and ready to pick up three weeks after the completion of class. Projects may be

picked up at the SASD Administrative office.




Mad Machines & Junior Engineers

Students will work with pulleys, wedges, screws and

levers to build their own catapults and play robot

soccer! Participants will exercise their ability to work

with others while constructing a geodisc dome big

enough for the whole class to fit inside. Let the

engineering excitement begin!

WEEK 6: July 26 -30

Island Explorers A week of art inspired by ocean breezes and swaying palm trees will provide a

creative outlet for beach lovers. This multi-media class will explore designing with

clay, pottery, glass and more all with an island theme. Artwork will be fired in studio

kilns and ready for pick up approximately three weeks after the completion of class.

Super Slimy Smokey Science

Students will dive into a variety of scientific fields as they

mix and stretch silly putty and slime, copperplate

nickels and investigate the mysteries of optical illusions.

Participants will tinker with circuits, catapults and

experience what happens when you mix science and fun.

FUNctional Clay Having fun and making clay artwork that you can use every day is what this

class is all about. Artists will explore many hand-building techniques. From

decorative hot plates or spoon holders to unique storage boxes or colorful

bowls designing functional art will be top priority. Pieces will be fired in studio

kilns and ready for pick up approximately three weeks after the completion of
