GRANDPARENTS SCAM
Across the nation, con artists are scamming grandparents out of thousands of dollars by posing as
grandchildren in distress. How the scam works:
A grandparent receives a frantic call from someone they believe to be their grandchild. The supposed
grandchild claims to be involved in some type of trouble, such as being arrested or in a car accident
or needing emergency car repairs and asks the grandparent to immediately wire money to help. The
scammer typically asks for money and may even call back again several hours or days later asking
for more. He or she may claim embarrassment about the alleged trouble and ask the grandparent to
keep it a secret. A variation of the scam may involve two scammers -- the first scammer calls and
poses as a grandchild under arrest. The second scammer, posing as some type of authoritative
figure, explains what fines need to be urgently be paid. A common theme of the scam requests that
money is wired through Western Union or MoneyGram or asks for a bank account routing
numbers. Wiring money is like sending cash; there are no protections for the sender. Typically there
is no way you can reverse the transaction, trace the money, or recover payment from the telephone
con artists. It is possible that the scammers are finding their targets on the Internet. Names,
addresses, birth dates, and telephone numbers are easily ascertained online. Scammers may also
check Facebook or other social networking websites to learn about a person and their family. Another
possibility is that the scammers are calling telephone numbers randomly until they reach a senior
citizen. In some cases, the senior citizen unknowingly "fills in the blanks" for the thief. For instance,
the senior answers the phone, the scammer says something like, "Hi Grandma, it's me, your favorite
grandchild," the grandparent guesses the name of the grandchild the caller sounds most like, and the
scammer takes on that grandchild's identity for the remainder of the call.
How to Avoid Being Scammed
Be suspicious when you receive a telephone call where:
· A grandchild calls you from a faraway location.
· The grandchild says, "It's me," or "It's your grandson," or "It's your favorite grandchild."
· Vague or elusive callers who get personal details wrong.
· Callers insisting on secrecy.
· Urgent callers pressuring quick action.
· The grandchild is in some trouble or some type of distress.
· The caller asks for money to be wire transferred.
If you receive such a call, you should verify the identity and location of the grandchild claiming to be in
trouble. Then, hang up and call another family member who can confirm your grandchild's
whereabouts. Try calling your grandchild at the telephone number through which you normally reach
him or her. Stay calm and avoid acting out of a sense of urgency. Don’t wire money unless you
have verified with a trusted third-party source that your grandchild is truly in trouble.
Scammers are often professional criminals who are skillfully able to get you to wire money or
give personal information before you have time to properly assess the situation. Texans who believe
they have been the target of a scam should contact the Office of the Attorney General at
(800) 252-8011 or online at www.texasattorneygeneral.gov .

Menu items range from Chicago style dogs, gyros and salads to even a cold beer. Authentic food is only part of the restaurant’s draw. Atmosphere accounts for the other half. Boxes from the gourmet popcorn shop Nuts on Clark and Old Style Beer hang on the walls, along with a strip of vintage photographs of the city. A cork board invites customers to pin up their Wrigley Field selfies, many taken in front of the stadium’s 100-year anniversary sign. Though it clearly favors the Cubs, Wrigleyville Grill attracts fans from both of the city’s baseball teams and plays on the rivalry. Residents will visit Wrigleyville Grill for a late lunch. Classes are free, but you need a partner in order to fully participate in the class. However, if you just want to come and watch or simply practice the steps by yourself, that’s fine too. San Antonio FC is an American professional soccer team founded in 2016. Did you know San Antonio's FC heart of the badge contains two prominent elements: the five diagonal stripes, which were inspired by the armed forces’ service stripes, are a salute to
San Antonio’s rich military history and their upward movement signifies the club’s goal to play at the highest level; and the rowel of the Spur symbolizes the direct link between San Antonio FC and its parent company, Spurs Sports & Entertainment? Binding all of the interior elements is a single “S” a subtle nod to the hometown heritage and how it unites the community. Unite as community and support the San Antonio FC as they take on the Real Monarchs. Every Thursday | 2PM -Card Room-
Scrabble exercises the brain! The Scrabble Club invites all Residents to play and join the fun while making new friends along the way. What is scrabble? A word game, invented in America in 1931 during the great Depression by Alfred Mosher Butts, a young out-of-work architect in Poughkeepsie, New York. As an architect with love of structure and order Butts decided to use a grid concept that combined both luck and skill. He liked the idea of 100 tiles. He then began a set of sketches and an analysis of word structure in English. Of the 26 letters in the English alphabet, Vowels are used far more frequently than consonants, so Butts assigned “face values” to each letter while determining how many of each were available. Thus, there are 13 E’s (worth 1 point) and only 1 Z and Q (worth 10 points each). Butts original scheme has endured for 3 generations with millions of scrabble players worldwide with versions in Spanish, Italian, Russia, Hebrew, French, and Braille. Contact Bobbe Christensen if interested in joining.

DADS
Any man can be a father. It takes a special man to be a Dad.
Dads hold a little hand Crossing streets;
Think up special treats, Build castles in the sand.
Dads are there to fix Broken hearts and toys, Play ball with little boys,
Know magic tricks, Kiss away tears, Calm all fears.
Dads cheer you up when down, Turn that frown
Into a smile, Walk you down the aisle,
Teach lessons fine That last a whole lifetime!
