“Facing Down the Fear of Rejection” Hebrews 13:6; Isaiah 41:9-10, 13; Psalm 27 Pastor Duane Laman 9:30 a.m. July 22, 2018 Memory verse.: "Let us be bold then and say with confidence, 'The Lord is my help- er, I will not be afraid.' What can anyone do to me?" Hebrews 13:6 1: ALL PEOPLE FEAR REJECTION A. Examples of Adam & Eve, of children left alone, of times we don't make the team, and of rejection of the "in-group" or the opposite sex. B. Examples from the Bible of Jacob, Joseph, Paul, & Jesus being rejected by the crowds & Peter. 2: IF REJECTION HAPPENS TO EVERYONE, WHY DO WE FEAR IT AND WHAT ARE THE NATURAL RESULTS? A. We fear it because we were not made for rejection but for right relationships. B. The results of rejection escalate through stages of self pity, sour grapes, bitter ness & vengeance. 3: WHERE SHOULD WE TURN? A: To the Lord -- Song: "Where Could I Go But to the Lord" B. In the Garden God showed a heart full of love. C. People can reject us, but the Lord loves us unconditionally & won't quit on us. 4. WITH GOD AS OUR HELPER, WHAT CAN PEOPLE DO TO ME? A. David had to flee from Saul but found the Lord to be his light & salvation. B. We too can hear God saying to us what he said to Isaiah: "I have chosen you and not rejected you, so do not fear. I will help you." 5: WHEN WE HAVE CONFIDENCE IN GOD, WHAT'S NEXT? A. God always blesses us to be a blessing. We can now help others who feel rejected. B. Bless others by accepting them as they are and being a friend and advocate as Barnabas was for Saul. SUMMARY: We know the permanent acceptance of the Lord and we can be the ones to affirm and accept others. July 22, 2018 9:30 AM First Reformed Church, Sully Iowa Pastor Duane Laman

I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and cards. Thank you to Chuck Johnson and Pastor Wayne for their calls. Most of all I thank the Lord for a suc-cessful surgery. The hole has been repaired and my vision should slowly improve for the next two months.

Gary Van Genderen Thank you to our church family for the cards and words of comfort that we re-ceived after the passing of our brother and sister. We are so blessed to have such a caring church family.

STARS Afterschool

The STARS program is set to begin Wednesday, September 5th – November 14th ; and Janu-ary 9th – March 13th from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. The STARS program would not be possible without the time and talents of many dedicated volun-teers. Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve in this ministry. Please prayerfully consider serving in one of the following positions for the coming year: Bible Study Leaders –Prepare and present a twenty-five minute Bible lesson for two different crews (groups of children) each week. Crew Leaders - Greet, sit, and eat an after school snack at a table with a crew (small group of chil-dren) and stay with the group the entire time, leading their crew to the different stations and assisting with the activities. No weekly preparation is needed (except for prayer and extra rest!). They will also take responsibility for the discipline of their crews. Please note you may share either of these positions with someone if you are unable to commit for the entire year! THANKS!!
