Diabetes 20-20 Weekend Workshop

in Phagwara

A residential weekend workshop was organized by Department of Endocrinology, CMCL in collaboration with the Royal college of Physicians of Edinburgh and the CME Foundation of India, at Phagwara for over 60 physicians from all across Punjab. This conference consisted of numerous interactive sessions and included an amalgamation of expert speakers most of whom were academic or practicing endocrinologists from across the region. The two days of conference included workshops, special key note sessions, interactive quizzes and live patient demonstrations. Clinical practices in diabetes clinic were discussed and role plays were performed for difficult to handle cases for e.g a patient who refuses to take insulin, a patient who is in denial about his diagnosis of diabetes etc. Cricket based themes were used throughout the sessions along with props that made the sessions more lively and to coincide with the 20/20 championships that were ongoing. Team building exercises were one of the core components of the event. This included activities that conference attendees were a part of, such as specific tasks focused on group cooperation, like puzzle solving, role play, scavenger hunts and panel discussions. The primary goal of the sessions was to transform physicians dealing with patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. One of the sessions was also dedicated to a live patient workshop, In this workshop one of our patients who is currently a dietician and is living with type 1 diabetes mellitus herself discussed her journey as a patient over the last ten years from her childhood to her current adulthood. The Punjab Medical Council provided six hours of CME credit hours for the participants.
