Adult Sunday School : Starting Sunday, January 7th Scott
and Mary Hime will be leading a 9-week study on prayer. They
will be reading the book, Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy
with God, written by Timothy Keller, a New York Presbyterian
pastor. In the book, the journey of prayer is described as
finding our way through to duty to delight. The topic will be
challenging and the fellowship will be enriching. Please give Adult
Sunday School a try. If you would like a book, let Mary
know. They are $12. Reading the book is not required nor is
attending every class.

InReach Committee - Meeting Report
In-reach (the committee that serves people who already worship with us) celebrated
the new year by hosting an Ice Cream Social in January. Janet Gaskamp provided ice
ceam, and topping and about 28 people took her up on the idea and enjoyed ice
cream desserts. While most visited and spent time getting to know each other better,
some tested their skills at dominoes and other games. Be on the lookout for the next
event of this type. We are using them as transition breaks between Wednesday night
Supper & Study topics.
In-reach welcomed Debbie Shedden as a new member of our committee. Debbie will
work with our in-home communion program and other areas of interest. Anyone
who would like to become a member of this committee is asked to contact Adelaide
Marlatt (361-729-0520).
On January 14 First Presbyteian welcomed Steve and Karla Crossett as
new Associate members of our congregation. Short bios will appear
in the March newsletter. Welccome Steve and Karla!
It was noted that the church directory on the website now contains many new cell
phones numbers gathered from the surveys distributed in the last months. The
Directory is available on the “1st Presbyterian Church-Rockport” website. See the top
Right-hand corner on OUR WEBSITE’S home page. You can print your own hard copy
of names, addresses and phone numbers only by printing pages 24-29 only. It comes
in handy to stay in touch with your 1st Pres family, at least until you get them into
your contacts somewhere.
We also discussed ways to increase the use of emails within the Shepherd teams.
This will continue to be a 2018 project.

Dear Church Family, Our church has an amazing community called Presbyterian Women. The group’s activities are open to all women who attend FPC. Our missions focus on outreach and fellowship, and we believe that each activity is an opportunity for growth, service, and a time for fellowship with other women in the church. We hope that this month, February 2018, is the one when you will give a new activity a try!
1. The PW Business Meeting is held the first Tuesday of each month, September-May. Our next meeting is February 6 at 10:00 am in the Café. Meetings are open, and all women are cordially invited to join us.
2. The Quilters meet at 9:00 on the Third Tuesday of each month. On February 20, the group will cut, iron, sew, and tie threads for Prayer Quilts in the Café. There are jobs for all abilities, so no sewing experience is necessary.
3. The PW Bible Study group meets the Fourth Tuesday of each month. The 2017-2018 study is called “Cloud of Witnesses: The Community of Christ in Hebrews.” Lesson 5 is scheduled for February 27 at 12:00 noon in the cafe. PW provides the book, and church members & friends are encouraged to come study our Lord’s word in community. Some of us bring a sack lunch to eat during the lesson.
4. Castaways: FPC staffs and manages the store every Monday, 8:00am to 3:00pm. We sort and price donations every Thursday, 8am to 11am. There is plenty to do either day, and we have a lot of fun on the job. Even if you can only spare an hour, please come check out Castaways.
***Castaways’ PULLING in January is Wednesday, January 31 at 3:15 – 4:30.
5. Each year our PW group attends the PW Of Mission Presbytery Spring Gathering at Mo Ranch. This year’s
dates are April 6-8, and registration forms are due as soon as possible. (Pick one up in the office or see Janet G.) This is a great year to attend for the first time if you haven’t been before!
