OUR VISION

We, the Catholic Community of St. Frances of Rome, are dedicated to the propagation of the faith in our community and surrounding areas. We will accomplish this through an increase in communication to our parishioners and the surrounding communities by updating our weekly bulletin and redesigning our parish website. We will increase our spiritual life through the availability of workshops and retreats. We will build a new church in a timely manner, which will help to build a strong sense of community within the parish. With God’s grace guiding us, we hope to affect a positive change in the St. Frances of Rome Community.

La cual realizaremos a través de un incremento en la comunicación con nuestros feligreses y las comunidades aledañas al actualizar nuestro boletín semanal y rediseñar nuestra pagina web parroquial. Nosotros incrementaremos nuestra vida espiritual a través de la disponibilidad de retiros y talleres. Edificaremos una iglesia nueva de una manera oportuna que nos ayudará a construir una comunidad sólida entre la parroquia. MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, are a sacramental community united in Jesus Christ, rooted in the gospel and animated by a spirit of welcome and belonging. We worship joyfully, serve gladly and are stewards of God’s gifts. We nurture spiritual growth through faith formation. We support one another; invite all people from diverse walks of life to make a community with us; offer comfort to the alienated and marginalized; spread the Gospel; and practice our faith in our daily lives.

Pastor’s Corner . . . Dear parishioners of St. Frances of Rome,

• How are you doing? This crisis is a trying time for us and for the world. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers all the time

• But we will get through this • We are resilient because of our optimism; but as

Christians, we are resilient because of our faith - we dare to believe to the promise of Jesus

How can St. Frances of Rome help during this time of unprecedented crisis? • First, never discount the power of prayer • I pray for you, but we pray together and for one

another • To limit the spread of this virus Anointing and

Confession are done only in danger of death • Make phone calls - check on each other • I know that some parishioners have lost their jobs

since the shutdown • This is a painful reality - this is why we look after

each other as a parish • I want to let you know that our Fish & Loaves

Ministry distributes food on Tuesdays at the YES Center

• I was told they distribute veggies and salads as well (Thanks to our donors and volunteers)

• But we also give out Stater Bros. gift cards • So if you or someone you know who is a member of

our parish who is truly in need of food, please call our parish office and leave your name and number

• We will call you back and arrange the delivery of the gift card

• I ask that you only call for the gift card if you are truly in need and not because you want to stockpile

• Our resource is limited so we want to get this help into the hands of those who are really in dire need

• I thank all of you who continue to send checks for the regular offertory and for the building fund - I am moved by your generosity

• And I appeal to parishioners who have the financial means to join me to continue to help our parish by using our online giving which can be found on our website at sfrome.com

• If you need assistance on this matter call our office and leave your name and number so the bookkeeper and Rene can assist you

• Friends, I am not inviting you to do something that I myself would not do

• I use the online giving also and donate to our parish • So, I am donating my salary this month of April to

help our parish to pay for the monthly utility bills and for staff salaries at this time

• After April 15, the staff hours would be significantly reduced, and furlough days will apply

So what activities can we do during this time of quarantine and isolation? • My first advice is to pray together––pray as a

family • You can also do stations of the cross in your house,

Pray a novena, Divine Mercy chaplet, and other devotional prayers

• The religious ed families can learn the Act of Contrition, the Nicene Creed etc.

• Download applications like ibreviary and Laudate (There are numerous prayers and devotionals in them)

• Check EWTN, our diocesan website, and our parish website for live stream and prerecorded Mass

• Listen to Gregorian chants (This music will help your soul rise to God)

• Watch movies as a family, but be wise with what you watch

• I recommend, El Padrecito, Into the Great Silence, Bells of St. Mary’s, Going my Way

• These activities will help us walk with God, infuse our day with His presence, and will make us appreciate more the beauty and richness of our Catholic faith

• Sanctify your day with God • Come to God, seek God, to be alone with God like

Jesus in solitude for 40 days in the desert Concluding message • Right now there is panic but a day will come during

this crisis that fear will sink in - when that time comes, remember the words of the Lord, “Be not afraid” - God never disappoints anyone who comes to Him

• Enjoy the things we take for granted: the morning sun, the sunset, the singing birds, the solitude and the silence - enjoy them all

• Pandemic or crisis do not come from God - they come from the evil one

• But times like this make us rethink - it reminds us of our real need - our need for God

• God bless my dear parishioners and I pray that we shall celebrate Mass together soon

• I bless you, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Re: Coronavirus: On February 28, 2020 Bishop Barnes released a statement regarding COVID-19, known as the coronavirus. The bishop has allowed certain practices that may be observed during the celebration of the liturgy of the Mass. The recommendations are as follows:

♦ The faithful should be encouraged to not hold hands during the reciting of the Our Father ♦ The faithful should be encouraged to share the Sign of Peace without touching hands or kissing. This can be

done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, and a bow of the head in reverence to one another ♦ The precious blood is temporarily not to be shared with the faithful during Mass. Communion is only to be

given in the species of the consecrated bread ♦ The faithful should be encouraged to receive communion in their hands, and not on their tongue ♦ Priests, deacons, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion should be especially reminded to wash their

hands before Mass and after distributing communion

****************************************************************** ♦ In addition, Fr James recommends to the faithful not to use the missalettes. Instead, we can listen to the word

of God attentively as it is proclaimed ♦ The presiding priest may not shake hands with the faithful after Mass ♦ If you are sick you are not obligated to come to church

These simple recommendations are not given to hit our panic button. But they are prudent measures at this time to help minimize the spread of the virus. Thank you.

El 28 de Febrero de 2020, el Obispo Barnes ha publicado una declaración sobre COVID-19, conocido como CORONAVIRUS. El Obispo ha permitido ciertas prácticas que pueden observarse durante la celebración de la liturgia de la Misa. Las recomendaciones son las siguientes:

Tea Party : An event to be held around Mother’s Day. This is an event for women to commune with each other over Tea and finger foods. Raffle for New Appliance: Raffle a new appliance item. Drawings will be held at different times of the year. Shoe and Clothing Drive: An event to collect new and used clothes under 2 separate events. Time Capsule: An opportunity to collect items for a time capsule that will be placed on the new church grounds. Christmas Concert: This is an event held during the Advent Season in anticipation for Christmas and in coordination with the Valley View Band Bingo: An event to play Bingo with the preselling of tickets. This will be an ongoing event throughout the year.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS

The AdHoc Building Committee needs your help with fundraising ideas for our new church. All ideas are welcome and will be vetted by the Committee. Next weekend, reserve a time and date for your scheduled no-cost photo shoot in front of the church!

TO HONOR THIS GREAT ACHIEVEMENT, A NEW PARISH DIRECTORY HAS BEEN DESIGNED. It will include a pictorial history of our church for the last 130+ years, groundbreaking photos, photos of the

new church as it is being built, photos of various events (i.e. Cinco de Mayo, Car Raffle, etc.) and photos of the different church ministries/groups. And, more importantly, it will have your family’s picture, too! Next weekend a table will be available in front of the church to schedule a date and time for your family to be photographed. The photo you picked will be published in the directory, and, oh . . . you will also get a free 8 x 10 photo to be framed AT NO COST. My name is Bob Murray and I have been a parishioner since 2012. For many years we have been raising money for our Building Fund and over the last few years we made great strides. Now, we will soon break ground on our new beautiful church then have it built & completed in the next 18 months. So, plan ahead. Reserve a time and date for your family’s photo session. The photo shoots will be held at the pre-school. We look forward to seeing you next weekend.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to continue your work by building our future church for our children and this growing community.

Lord, teach us true generosity that we will be the first to give, for all we have is yours. Help us to give wholeheartedly. Touch our hearts to not be afraid to give, for you take care of our needs and bless us with infinite rewards on earth and in Heaven.
