The next time you are in the NHS gym you will be sure to notice the new signs reflecting the past league, district, and state achievements of Grizzly teams.

Those who have been around for a while may remember past efforts to do something similar. A plethora of pennants once adorned the south wall of Newport High School’s gym. They were later replaced by corrugated plastic posters.

Those past efforts were nothing like what you will see the next time you are in the NHS gym.

These new signs are just another example of the continually awesome efforts of Newport School District’s administration, maintenance and custodial department, and ASB (Associated Student Body).

New bleachers were installed in both the high school and middle school gyms just a few years ago. Those improvements were funded by community levy dollars.

The new signs, however, are the brainchild of both NHS students and administration. ASB funds are being used to cover the costs of these new signs.

New PORS SignCheck out the new sign at the Pend Oreille River School.

The sign was created and designed by NHS senior Cory Wylie in the Newport High School Fab Lab.

Cory used CAD (Computer Aided Design) software and NHS’s Torchmate CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) plasma cutter.

The sign was painted with an airbrush and then clear coated to prevent fading in harsh weather.
