COMMUNION ANNOUNCEMENT Here at Christ Lutheran Church we believe, teach and confess that Jesus Christ is the only Savior from sin, and that He alone is the way to eternal life. We believe, teach, and confess that in the Sacrament of Holy Communion the true body and blood of Jesus Christ is received along with the elements of bread and wine, and that the reception of this gift in faith is a means through which God Himself forgives our sins, strengthens us in faith, and unites us as His children. If your own personal beliefs are in complete harmony with these Biblical truths, if you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in these Lutheran confessions, if you recognize the reality of sin in your life and desire to receive God’s forgiveness, and if you acknowledge that receiving Holy Communion at our table expresses an implied unity with us in the body of Christ you are welcome to join us at the table of our Lord.

THE HOLY TRINITY Crowned in Glory and Honor

June 7, 2020

AS WE GATHER The feast of the Holy Trinity is about the one true God who has revealed Himself in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But the feast is not about God alone. As the Trinity, He is, of course, never alone even in Himself. But also in His creation, even the pinnacle of His work, man, is not to be alone. Male and female He created them. But even greater than this relationship is man’s relationship with God. Created “in His image,” we are never to be alone but find our identity in fellowship with God. Without Him, we are incomplete. The image of God means to possess God’s righteousness. The “righteousness” of God means everything working together like God intended. That includes a relationship with Him. Though we lost that righteousness by our sin, choosing to be alone without God, God still took into Himself our very human nature in the person of the Son of God, Jesus. By His innocent life and His substitutionary suffering and death, all who repent and are baptized into Him are restored in righteousness. With Christ and in Him, we, too, are crowned in glory and honor. All praise to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever.

WELCOME

OPENING HYMN “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” LSB #790

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation! Let all who hear Now to His temple draw near, Joining in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things is wondrously reigning And, as on wings of an eagle, uplifting, sustaining. Have you not seen All that is needful has been sent by His gracious ordaining?

Praise to the Lord, who has fearfully, wondrously, made you, Health has bestowed and, when heedlessly falling, has stayed with you. What need or grief Ever has failed of relief? Wings of His mercy did shade you.

Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you; Surely His goodness and mercy shall daily attend you. Ponder anew What the Almighty can do as with His love He befriends you.

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore Him! All that has life and breath, come now with praises before Him! Let the Amen Sound from His people again; gladly forever adore Him! (Please rise)

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: Let us confess our waywardness and sin in order that we may rise to

newness of life by faith, that we may be His own and live under Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness.

People: O God, our Creator and Redeemer and Sanctifier, hear our pleas for mercy. We have turned away from You and rebelled against You by going our own way. Because of our sin, we have discovered it is not good for us to be alone, without You. For the sake of the glory and honor of the salvation won for us in Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, forgive us and restore in us the image of Your own life and love. Amen.

Pastor: God offers all His treasure

Of justice, truth, and righteousness, His love beyond all measure. And high as heaven above us, So far, since He has loved us, He puts our sins away. Therefore, in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People: Amen.

PSALM 8 Pastor: O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! People: You have set your glory above the heavens.

Pastor: Out of the mouth of babes and infants, you have established strength because of your foes,

People: to still the enemy and the avenger.

Pastor: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, People: the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

Pastor: what is man that you are mindful of him, People: and the son of man that you care for him?

Pastor: Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings People: and crowned him with glory and honor.

Pastor: You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; People: you have put all things under his feet,

Pastor: all sheep and oxen, People: and also the beasts of the field,

Pastor: the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, People: whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

Pastor: O Lord, our Lord, People: how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Pastor: Glory be to the Father and to the Son People: and to the Holy Spirit;

Pastor: as it was in the beginning, People: is now, and will be forever. Amen.

HYMN “O Lord, Our Lord, Your Majesty” Text: Psalm 8

By Rev. John C. Stennfeld Tune: Nun Danket All

O Lord, our Lord, your majesty, In all the earth is known; Through all the works that you have done Your wondrous name is shown.

You set your glory high above, Put all the stars in place, Ordained your children to sing praise, Of ev’ry tribe and race.

Yet still you made mankind to be Just one step down from you, Crowned him with glory from above, And gave him honor too.

You made him rule o’er all your works, And placed beneath his feet Beasts of the field, birds of the air, And fish in lake and sea.

O Lord, our Lord, your majesty Shall reign in all the earth, No eye shall see, apart from you, One greater than your worth.

OLD TESTAMENT READING Genesis 1:24-27, 31 (The beginning.)

SECOND READING Acts 2:14a, 22-36 (Jesus, both Lord and Messiah)

VERSE “Lord I Lift Your Name on High” H.I.S. Band Lord, I lift your name on High; Lord, I love to sing Your praises. I’m so glad You’re in my life; I’m so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to Earth, to show the way, From the earth to the cross, My debt to pay, From the cross to the grave, From the grave to the sky, Lord, I lift your name on high. (Please rise)

HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 28:16–20 Pastor John (The Great Commission)

CONFESSION OF FAITH – NICENE CREED I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth

and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven

and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again

according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge

both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together

is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

DISTRIBUTION SONGS “How Great is Our God” H.I.S. Band

The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty, Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice. He wraps Himself in light, and darkness tries to hide, And trembles at his voice, trembles at his voice.

Age to age He stands, and time is in His hands, Beginning and the end, beginning and the end. The Godhead, three in one: Father, Spirit, Son, The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb.
