June

“And what is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days.” James Russell Lowell June 1 Wedding Bells – June is a popular month for weddings. Bring in your wedding photos so we can reminisce about interesting characters, situations or surprises in your wedding. June 3 National Camping Month – Some love camping, some hate it! Do you have a story? June 7 National Chocolate Ice Cream Day – Invite some friends over for ice cream. June 11 National Corn on the Cob Day - Remember feasting on fresh summer corn dripping in butter? June 14 Flag Day - Celebrate our country’s flag by sharing a personal memory about it. June 18 Father’s Day – Remember all the good things your dad taught you by words or example. June 21 First Summer Day –Wear crazy sunglasses & sit outside with a glass of lemonade! Celebrating Father’s Day Without Dad by Kelly Buckley

He may not be there for you to give a present or card, so your gift to him can be to use what he gave to you. Each time you do, you are honoring his spirit, what he taught you, how he raised you and how he lived. Tell a good story: My father showed me how to see the world with optimistic eyes, in less than perfect circumstances. One of my gifts back to him is to continue to see a world of possibility, kindness and love, and tell stories about this beautiful life. Be Kind: My dad was a doer and a helper. He was never afraid to jump in and lend a hand. He showed me that the return of an investment of kindness is tenfold. My gift to him is to be generous of heart, and kind to those I meet on my journey. Be resilient: My father had struggles and hardships, and like many other fathers, quietly shouldered the burden of raising five children. With each challenge, he focused on the solution, always sheltering his children. My gift to him is to live a resilient life, and to help others recognize that same resilience in themselves. Love without condition: I remember the moment my family found out I was pregnant. I was far too young, not even close to being prepared for parenthood. Sitting on my bed, I listened to the sound of my father’s footsteps as he came in from work. After hearing the news, he came and sat on my bed, held my hand and told me he loved me and everything was going to be just fine. He could have said so much more, but he just loved me when I needed it most. In the midst of my fear, he put aside all his own feelings and just loved me without condition. My gift to my father is to love that way, to not only love my family unconditionally, but open my heart and offer no questions, no judgment…just love. I believe I celebrate him by using these gifts he gave to me. I can feel him smiling.
