Information on the Redesigned Course The redesigned curriculum now focuses on greater depth of understanding and making interconnections between chapters, units, and big ideas. The lab program is now inquiry based with a focus on student-‐designed experiments and various techniques for students to present their data and conclusions. The amount of material that is required has been reduced to allow for these changes.
About the test: Section I: Multiple-‐Choice – 90 minutes – 50%
Part A: 63 Multiple Choice Questions (4 Answer Choices) Part B: 6 Grid-‐In Questions that require the integration of science and mathematical skills
Section II: Free-‐Response – 90 minutes including a 10-‐minute reading period – 50% 2 Long Free-‐Response (20 minutes each) and 6 Short Free-‐Response (6 minutes each)
Students are allowed to use a simple four-‐function calculator and a provided formula sheet
Four Big Ideas:
1) The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life.
2) Biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce and to maintain dynamic homeostasis.
3) Living systems store, retrieve, transmit and respond to information essential to life processes.
4) Biological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties.
