It is to have you practice your speaking, listening, writing sentences and reading. All are completed through the online lessons, except the reading. There are some reading documents that have already been inserted in the paper, also 3 suggesting reading books for your reference. They are to help you to learn about Chinese family culture/values, the relationship among the family members, the gap among the generations, and the culture conflicts/shocks that Chinese people faced as new immigrants in the western world. The book reading assignment is “OPTIONAL.” However, for listening and speaking and writing assignments, you must keep a journal in your e-portfolio. First, you need to (1) Use one week to review the vocabulary and grammar in Chinese I- Chinese IV Textbooks. 9. 一共多少钱? Yi2 gong4 duo1 shao3 qian2? What is my total?

Note: If your e-portfolio page cannot let you copy and paste the exact characters

or the exact sentences from the online lesson but showing you “ ” , please erase

“ ” and type out the correct character according to the online lesson. For

example, you need to erase “ ” and replace it with “这” in the sentence “ 双鞋 太

紧了.” If you see “ ” after you made a copy and pasted the dialogue into your e-

portfolio page. The correct sentence in the lesson should be “这双鞋太紧了.”

(pinyin- zhè shuāng xié tài jĭn le, English meaning-These shoes are tight.)

Writing You need to keep a journal and write down the website you visit, the lesson you learn, the date you visit, and the new words/phrases you learn from the lesson. All has to be in both Chinese and English. Also, you need to use the phrases to make a sentence. You only have to choose five phrases to make five sentences per day. You can choose any phrases from any lesson that you study

When we return to school next year, we will open your e-portfolio in class to use your sentences to develop different paragraph writings such as writing out a short story individually or to work as a group to develop a story. Culture Study The goal of Summer Cultural Study Assignments for upcoming AP Chinese students is to utilize learned language to describe or report cultural observations.

1. Watch 3 movies from the list below and answer the following questions by typing:

What are the main characters’ names?
