    Color.CapitalizeBlackandWhitewhenthewordsareusedaspropernounstorefertosocialgroups.Donotusecolorwordsforotherethnicgroups.Inracialreferences,themanualsimply

    recommendsthatwerespectcurrentusage.Currentlyboththeterms"Black"and"African

    American"arewidelyaccepted,while"Negro"and"AfroAmerican"arenot.Thesethings

    change,sousecommonsense.

    Hispanic.ThetermsHispanic,Latino,andChicanoarepreferredbydifferentgroups.Thesafestprocedureisusegeographicalreferences;use"CubanAmerican"ifreferringtopeoplefrom

    Cuba.

    Asian.ThetermAsianAmericanispreferabletoOriental,andagainthemanualrecommendsbeingspecificaboutcountryoforigin,whenthisisknown(forexample,ChineseorVietnamese).

    ThemanualspecifiesthathyphensshouldnotbeusedinmultiwordnamessuchasAsian
