• cu atracţie, la care piesa feromagnetica este atrasa spre interiorul bobinei;
• cu repulsie, la care cele doua piese feromagnetice se resping intre ele;
• cu atracţie-repulsie, la care acţionarea intr-un sens a părţii mobile se realizează prin exercitarea de forte intre plăcutele feromagnetice, atât de atracţie cat si de respingere.
La aparatele feromagnetice cuplul activ este un rezultat al interacţiunii câmpului magnetic al bobinei cu cel al plăcutelor feromagnetice.
