Apartment Luna is a housing project with the application ofLunar (Moon) Architecture and Lunar Science.

The atmosphere on Earth is useful in protecting Earth from space radiation

and meteoroids and also to stabilize the temperature on the surface. The

moon does not has an atmosphere like Earth does. So, Lunar Architectureis applied in designing Apartment Luna, where assuming that the houses

are on the moon, 2/3 of each house will be built underground to protect it

from space radiation, meteoroids and extreme variation in temperature.

These underground part of each house is physically attached to each other

and hence the houses are called , Apartment, while the other 1/3 part of

each house is above the ground and separated from each other as if each

of them is a bungalow unit.

On Earth, Apartment Luna will be able to save energy. It will be practical

especially at relatively high temperature or low temperature area where

moderation of the temperature is preferred.

Apartment Luna will be built at a hillside facing Spaceflight Terminal at

Spaceport Malaysia in Bernam Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It will be a unique

and historic project in Space Science and Space Architecture and will beknown internationally.

NASA, ESA and other worlds major space

agencies will send manned missions to the moon

50 years after the first man landed on the Moon.

NASA (United States of America National Aeronautics & Space

Administration) has announced that it will again send manned

missions to the moon by 2020. ESA (European Space Agency)

and ROSKOSMOS (Russian Federal Space Agency) plan to

establish manned lunar base by 2025. These manned lunarmissions will be followed by other manned lunar missions by

the space agencies of Japan, India and China.

Apartment Luna is in synchronicity with all the planned manned lunarmissions by the worlds major space agencies. It is a project to welcome the

return of manned lunar missions by those space agencies. Therefore, like other

projects related to the exploration and colonization of the moon, Apartment

Luna will share the attention and fame of those manned lunar missions, which

will be the most important and most popular space mission very soon.

The moon has been inspiring man and woman since the beginning of artand culture thousand of years ago. Moon has not only appeared, but

influenced mankind arts and culture and even civilization and religious

practices for centuries.

Apartment Luna is referring to what was said by Neil Armstrongwhen he first stepped on the moon, that the modern understanding of the

moon will be a giant leap for mankind and shall continue inspiring man and

woman in various fields of innovation including architecture.

Innovative & Practical ArchitectureOn Earth, Apartment Luna will save energy. During summer or at tropical countries,

generally underground rooms have lower natural temperature than rooms above the

ground that are more exposed to the light and heat from the Sun do. With lower

natural room temperature, less energy will be required by air-conditioning to

maintain a cooler room temperature at Apartment Luna. The underground

compartments will be lighted by natural sunlight through periscopes and a light well.The periscopes will enable the occupants of the underground to view the

surroundings as if the viewing is done through windows from above the ground. The

light well at the center of the box-spiral stairs will allow the sunlight that enters

through the transparent dome-roof at the top of the well to reach underground.

The roof will be totally covered with solar panels except the transparentdome-roof for maximum solar power generation. Rainwater will be recycled

effectively through a rain water harvesting system (there is no rain on the

moon, but a lot of rain on Earth, particularly in tropical countries).

There will be 6 periscopes at each house. The master bedroom, rear

bedroom and kitchen each will be equipped with one periscope. The

family living room will has 2 periscopes. There is another extraperiscope at the rear of the house. Each periscope has a viewing mirror

with a diameter of 2ft, providing large enough field of view and generous

amount of light to the underground compartments.

Education & Research Opportunity

Apartment Luna can be a long term education and research program relatedto lunar colonization. It will educate directly the people who are involved in the

project and indirectly the people who are aware of the project about lunar

colonization. This project will provide a platform for lunar education and

research. Studies on lunar colonization, lunar architecture and space tourism can

be conducted with this unique platform. Therefore, related educational and

research organizations are encouraged to participate in Apartment Luna project.
