ACADEMIC PROGRAM OF EXCELLENCE

Our Academic Program of Excellence (APEX) encompasses English and Humanities, Maths and Science, and elective/rotation subjects including Creative Industries, Business, the Arts, HPE and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). The program also encompasses leadership, deep learning and academic development.

Scholarships will be awarded to 15 students from the English/Humanities and Maths/Science strands who have excelled in their chosen discipline (total of 30 scholarships are on offer). To be considered for the Academic Program of Excellence, all required information must be supplied. In the event of an application submitted after the due date, or incomplete, the application will not be processed.

Students applying for APEX need to: Complete this APEX Application Form, and Enrolment Request Form (also available from www.herveybayshs.eq.edu.au/enrolments). Provide a reference/letter from the student’s current primary school teacher (optional) and any certificates highlighting student success. Provide a copy of their Year 5 NAPLAN results (only if currently enrolled in a non-Queensland state school) Provide a written response to the attached “I am inspired by” stimulus – student’s own work, 400 to 500 words. Students who are aspiring for the Maths/Science strand must attend the APEX Maths Competition (Monday 27 May, 5pm to 6.30pm), at Hervey

Bay State High School. All successful applicants must attend the APEX Enrichment Day (Thursday 27 June, 9am to 3pm) at Hervey Bay State High School. Applications can be submitted directly to Hervey Bay State High School, or via email to [email protected]

WRITTEN TASK

Students applying for the Academic Program of Excellence are required to submit a written response (letter, story, etc) of between 400 to 500 words on the topic below. Students may use the stimulus included below. Submissions may be either hand-written or word-processed.
