1.3 TrendandFutureProspectsofNanoIndustry

Need for nano technology is increasing because of intelligence information society which

represents the 4th industrial revolution, demand for healthy long life and safe society,

and future environmental changes including climate changes and energy issues. Major

states which recognized impact and innovativeness of nano technology have put their

policy priority on nano technology since the 2000s and actively supported R&D on and

commercial use of nano technology. At the moment, about 30 states in the world are

competing for lead in and economic use of nano technology.

Size of the world nano technology market is expected to reach 90.5 billion USD in 2021, with

compound annual growth rate of 18.2% between 2016 and 2021. However, recent quantitative

and qualitative advance of nano technology has been stagnant, and as commercialization

achievements are biased in certain sectors so that the majority of gross revenue belongs to large

conglomerates, market development led by small and medium sized companies is insufficient.

While promoting commercialization of nano technology through “National

Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI)”, the United States has been reinforcing national

For innovative growth, in “Plan for the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the government

of Republic of Korea is utilizing basic technologies such as nano element, nano

system, and innovative material property and material to reinforce intelligent

technology capability, which is the key of the 4th industrial revolution. As of 2016,

nanotech-combined industry in Korea has constantly grown and the number of

companies, revenue, and the employment increased by 673 companies (43.8%

increase), 135,098.7 million KRW (46.4% increase), and 150,460 jobs (15.1%

increase), compared to 2011, respectively.

In accordance with advance in new technologies such as bioengineering technology

and nanotechnology, increase in international trade of food, and change in

consumption pattern, demand on novel food (hereinafter NF) using new food

materials is increasing. Experts around the world and relevant industry estimate that

when a new original functional gene is discovered and developed into a genetically

modified organism, economic value per a gene would be approximately 500 billion

KRW annual market share. Furthermore, corresponding economic impact is

expected to be value creation equivalent to 100~200 folds of investment amount.

Existing distribution industry was established on the model of dominating the market

in advance by using geographic gap and information gap. Thus, a closed market was

formed. Each related party that participates in the distribution industry started

establishing their own distribution infrastructure, and separated infrastructure

accelerated the asymmetry of distribution information further. As time went by, the

cost of establishing infrastructure needed to participate in the distribution industry

Thus, an improvement on distribution infrastructure is urgently needed at this stage

where options which end customers can suggest in the distribution industry are

increasing.

2)Vision

In order to solve the problems of distribution industry, ‘Integrated distribution

system’ which all related parties can rely on is needed. Therefore, Apexel Project is

aiming to establish an integrated distribution system for interested parties through

blockchain technology that provides credibility to the users based on the

characteristics of data transparency and integrity. Supply chain management

platform is a platform developed on blockchain. The platform stores the whole

distribution process from the place of origin of raw materials to consumers on

blockchain-powered cloud server.

Related parties are provided with reliability as data are prevented from forgery during

the distribution process through the recording on blockchain. Unlike existing closed

distribution infrastructure, blockchain-powered supply chain management platform

allows new related parties to enter the process with lower cost. This provides

motivation to various related parties to participate in the process, and cut

unnecessary losses regarding cost that occurs from the asymmetry of information.

Big data that are generated from the in-platform activities by the related parties

serve as a chance to improve corporate competency by optimizing transportation,

In fact, fake goods were discovered among the parts for airplanes and ships which

carry huge number of people and caused losses of life. As the damages from fake

goods expanded to the loss of life, a measure to solve the issue is in urgent need.

2)Vision

The damages from fake goods in regard to manufacturing and distribution industry

affects not only the end customers but to all related parties that participate in the

process. Therefore, APEXEL project is aiming to provide blockchain-powered product

authentication platform. Blockchain technology that guarantees the safety and

integrity of data can solve the fake goods problem. Consumer protection can be

reinforced and fake goods can be eliminated by safely and transparently providing the

product distribution process through the abovementioned blockchain-powered

supply chain management platform, and by guaranteeing the authenticity of the

product through product authentication platform.

Blockchain-powered product authentication platform records the whole process from

the initial shipment of product to the moment of purchase by customers on the

blockchain. In order to lower the initial barrier to entry, QR code, a widely used tool

on the existing distribution process, is used. Therefore, everyone can check the

authenticity easily with QR code-based mobile recognition.

2.3 NanoProductsE-CommercePlatform

Nano technology has great market value as the technology is used in various industries.

However, it is difficult for general users to encounter the applications in real life. APEXEL

project provides ‘Nano product electronic commerce platform’ so that the users can

encounter nano technology and improve their quality of life. Nano product electronic

commerce platform provides high level of accessibility on nano technology to users, and

allows the users to practically experience the value of the technology. The means of

payment in the platform is ANN token issued by Apexel, and B2C & B2B E-Commerce

shall be developed for the participation of general users and companies all at the same

time.

1)ANNWallet

ANN Wallet is a medium that connects the platform provided by Apexel project and

the users. The users can purchase goods and services provided by the platform by

transferring ANN tokens purchased through outside exchanges to ANN Wallet. The

wallet also supports storage, payment, deposit and withdrawal of cryptocurrency.

Major features include registration and storage of the user’s cryptocurrency account,

storage, payment, deposit and withdrawal, balance check, real-time rate, transaction

history and others.

If payments are made with ANN token through ANN Wallet, nano products can be

purchased much cheaper than with fiat currency as commissions received by

existing financial institutions or agencies are not being paid.

Nano product E-Commerce platform aims to expand the platform through the joining

of various affiliates providing nano products. However, as the platform is being

developed on blockchain, there might be a barrier-to-entry in the early stage. Thus,

1)Online/MobileMarket

B2C & B2B online / mobile shopping mall uses ANN token as the means of

payment. ANN token is used for transactions that occur during the distribution

process (Transactions between manufacturers, shipping service providers, and

wholesale and retail sales businesses) and for purchasing raw materials and

products. Individual transaction processes that occur in the market are all recorded

on the blockchain, and the users can individually view their history.

Apexel aims to solve the problems of existing distribution system. Transparent and

well-established system on the whole distribution processes from the origin of place

of raw materials to end consumers shall be developed by using the strengths of

blockchain, data forgery prevention and transparency, Each product data shall be

uploaded through the Blockchain Layer and Product Manager. This makes it difficult

to forge or falsify data or intentionally delete the data.

3)ActivationPlatform

Activation Platform refers to genuine product authentication platform powered by

blockchain. Each product shall be granted a QR code to understand the origin of

place of raw materials and related information regarding the product. QR code is

generated via the product’s original data and the owner’s digital signature, and the

QR code records the history generated during distribution in real time. Users can

transparently check the distribution process beginning from the product from the

place of origin with easily accessible method like mobile recognition.

4.2 ServiceLayer

Service Layer supports the users to easily access the data recorded on the DB and the

blockchain when using Apexel platform. The history on the distribution process of the

products that were generated on the Application Layer is recorded on the DB or the

blockchain. The Service Layer acts as a bridge that connects the users to access the

history based on the recorded data.

1)CRM(CustomerRelationshipManagement)

CRM has the features like customer management and sales management so that

the affiliates can easily carry out sales activities. Apexel analyzes and aggregates the

user data recorded on the blockchain and provides CRM solution to the affiliates. The

behavior of ‘Customer’ who consumes products can vary in many types to the

affiliates. The customer who repeatedly purchases the affiliate (company)’s product,

phenomenon until the occurrence of repetitive purchasing behavior or the related

person who affects the behavior are all included in the range of customer. Apexel

analyzes the characteristics of an entity named ‘Customer’ by organically using the

distribution channel history and consumer transaction history and provides the

analysis to the affiliates.

2)SupplyChain

Existing distribution system had issues on cost, time and transaction due to the

establishment of separate infrastructure by process participants. Also, there was a

limit of not being able to satisfy the needs for product authentication of end

consumers. Supply Chain increases the credibility on the product by reducing the

complexity on transaction and recording the data on distribution history through the

usage of ANN token as payment method on the transactions that occur during the

distribution process. Each product will include a QR code based on the product’s

original data, distribution history and the owner’s digital signature.

3)Wallet

The user that uses blockchain has to have a Private Key in order to access the

owner’s account. Wallet module is a system that safely manages the Key data that is

necessary for the users who use Apexel platform to access the blockchain. This

module allows the users to easily generate and manage accounts and to store, pay

or check transaction history of cryptocurrency. Wallet module guarantees closed

actions and maintains highest level of security to prevent the leakage of Key data to

outside.

4.3 BackendLayer

Backend Layer supports the feature that allows the efficient use of the blockchain. Data

that are too sensitive to be transparently recorded like user’s personal information are

stored in the Account Manager module and safely managed. Also, the Backend Layer

stores and controls big data or complex analysis result that is difficult to store in the

blockchain. Transactions and the processing of transactions that occur during the

distribution process delivers to the blockchain by using Node module.

1)AccountManager

Account Manager manages the data of the members and the distribution managers

who joined on the Online/Mobile Marker. Each account’s blockchain address

information, Public Key and others are managed to authenticate the payment, and

distribution history record. Personal information of each account that cannot be

uploaded onto the blockchain are encrypted and then stored onto a separate

Database. The Account Manager also provides access control and use policy that can

keep the compliance issues like personal information protection law and Europe’s

GRDP and others.

2)DB

Big data that cannot be recorded on the blockchain or data that requires fast access

that does not need authentication uses existing DB use existing DB. This allows fast

service feature, and manages data for smooth service.

3)Node

To communicate with the blockchain network, nodes connected to the blockchain

are required. Node module collects transaction information that occur blockchain

network, processes the information required by Apexel and records the processed

information onto the DB or the Smart Contract. Reversely, the nodes can process

the transactions that need delivery to the blockchain network from the outside. The

nodes provide scheduled transaction service by collecting transaction information

that is generated at Apexel.

4.4 BlockchainLayer

Apexel adopts blockchain technology to use ANN token as a mean to guarantee

transaction, the prevention of forgery of data, and payment for transaction. The

Blockchain Layer allows the recording of transactions like data uploading and token

transfer onto the blockchain network based on Smart Contract.

1)TokenModule

ANN token operates on Ethereum-based Smart Contract. As tokens that run on

Smart Contract records all features including transfer and other additional features

onto Ethereum Network, the users can transparently manage the token flow.

Furthermore, token reward according to user’s activity is also managed by Token

Module according to pre-specified Token Economy policy.

2)DataManager

The products distributed at Apexel platform can be authenticated through QR code. Each

product has its own Hash value, and should be able to verify the validity of the data.

Thus, Data Manager manages Hash algorithm and verifies the integrity of the data.

3)AccountManager

At Account Manager, the user generates an account that manages cryptocurrency, and can

manage the account. Also, Account Manager defines the user object on the blockchain and can

control the rights to access data of the users. When the user that does not have the rights to

access data regarding the distribution process, that record gets stored on the blockchain forever

and becomes trustless information. Thus, data access by user object is restricted.

4)ProductManager

There are various types of uploading including uploading raw material, uploading

manufactured goods, uploading goods for retail and wholesale sales and others for

distribution process. Product Manager supports such uploading features on the

blockchain. Uploading on data has to execute the Smart Contract, so ANN token is

used as the means of payment. Also, uploading of distribution process participants

will get involved in the token rewarding in the future.
