CHECK LIST FOR EXTERNAL INSPECTION Sr No Inspection Point Parameters to be checked 1Ladders, Stairways, Platforms, Walkways 1.Careful inspection of corroded or broken parts, tightness of bolts, cracks 2.Depression in platforms for stangnancy of water and corrosion 2Foundation and Supports1.Concrete Foundation should be inspected for spalling, cracking and settling 2.Settling should be checked for even and uneven settlement. If excessive than piping need to be checked for cracks at connections to the vessel 3Anchor Point1.Condition of Anchor bolt by sideway blowing with hammer to check for corrosion and complete deterioration below the base plate. 4Steel Supports1.Steel supports should be inspected to see whether they are sound. Scraping will reveal corrosion and slight hammering will disclose thinning. 2.Columns and load carrying beam should be checked for buckling and excessive deflection. 3.Any crevices should be inspected for crevice corrosion. 5Nozzles1.If any settling of vessels has occurred, nozzles and adjacent shell areas should be inspected for distortion and cracking and leak evidence 2.Exposed gasket faces should be inspected for scoring and corrosion. Groove ring joints should be checked for cracks using PT or MT6Grounding Connection1.This connection must be verified for good electrical contact and are securely connected. Recommended resistance is5 ohms and not to exceed 25 ohms 7Auxillary Equipment1.Gauge connections , sight glasses may be visually inspected while the unit is in operation for any undue vibration 8Protective Coating and Insulation 1.Painting and Coating should be checked for blisters and film lifting 2.Insulation shall be checked externally for damage and bulging. 9External Condition of Equipment 1.Bulging or buckling 2.Hydrogen blistering, caustic embrittlement which may show signs outside 3.Hot spots for bulging and creep CHECK LIST FOR INTERNAL INSPECTION Sr No Inspection Point Parameters to be checked 1Preliminary Inspection1.To be performed to check for fouling, deposits for vessel and heat exchangers. Inspect for corrosion under this deposits and send sample for analysis. 2.For towers any dislodging of trays 2Surface Preparation1.Cleaning may be required for detail inspection by hot water, steaming, or solvents 2.Cleaning should besupplemented by abrasive blasting, power brushing, high pressure water blasting as applicable3Detailed Inspection1.Inspection should start from one end to other. 2.Key areas like internal attachment welds, seam welds and tray supports by performing Visual and NDE. 3.Entire vessel should be inspected for evidence of corrosion, erosion, hydrogen blistering 4.For general corrosion enough thickness reading shall be taken to find metal loss. 5.Pitting type corrosion and grooving should be measured for depths and metal loss 6.An hammer may be used to identify potential thin areas of vessel 7.For cracking use PT, MT or Shear wave UT 8.Areas directly below the liquid level in the vessel containing acidic corrodents should be inspected for hydrogen blistering 9.Welded seams in amine service need to be checked for cracking by WFMT 10. All internal piping should be checked for anydislodging, thinning and cracking at welds 11. Deaerators should have their welds and heat affected zones checked for cracking 12. Vessels surfaces need to be checked for laminations which usually run slant or parallel to surface 13. If there are metallic linings they should be inspected for bulges and buckling. 14.
