API 570 Piping Inspection Code: Design, Operation & Inspection of ASME B31 piping systems
INTRODUCTION A five-day programme on the practical aspects of piping and pipeline inspection,
integrity, maintenance and repair.
This practical, applications-oriented course covers pipelines and piping systems
design, inspection and maintenance to prepare inspectors for the API 570 ICP
Assessment examination. Upon completion of this course, delegates will be able to
evaluate the mechanical design of pipelines and piping systems in accordance with
ASME B31. They will also be able to develop a pipelines and piping systems
inspection program based on API 570 and other industry practices, and then apply
these requirements to typical pipelines and piping systems.
This course will provide an overview of pipelines and piping systems maintenance,
including inspection, evaluation of various defects, and repair/alteration rules of
various Codes and Standards. Evaluation methods for several types of defects will be
described, and their use demonstrated using sample problems.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Inspection engineers and supervisors.
Individuals who are responsible for evaluating the mechanical integrity of in-
service pipelines and piping systems in process plant applications.
Managers who are responsible for implementing a pipelines and piping
systems maintenance program and desire an understanding of applicable
evaluation procedures.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
Participants attending the programme will:
Develop an in-depth understanding of the ASME B31.3 & B16.5
design, construction, inspection and testing rules; as well as their
application to integrity assessment of operating systems.
Gain an in-depth knowledge of pipe and fitting material specifications,
fabrication process and influence on mechanical properties of strength
and toughness, to help in inspections and failure analysis

Understand the technical background to the design equations, and their
application to the design of piping systems and pipelines.
Gain a practical understanding of piping and pipeline corrosion
mechanisms, how to recognize them, classify them and resolve them
Be introduced to the latest techniques and research in piping and
pipeline integrity to analyze a degraded condition due to either
corrosion or mechanical damage including API 579 techniques.
Review case histories of field failures and will evaluate their cause and
solutions to avoid recurrence
In addition the course also:
Provides an overview of the API 570 piping & pipelines inspection
code with detailed knowledge appropriate to the ICP exam.
The company will gain:
A wealth of information on latest industry practices in design, inspection,
maintenance and repair of piping systems and pipelines, and apply this
knowledge for cost effective design and maintenance decisions
full advantage of the latest ASME code rules and API recommended practices
in piping and pipeline integrity
The participant will have:
An opportunity to extend his/her expertise in equipment design, defect
assessment, and equipment integrity analysis
an in-depth expertise in ASME B31, B31.8G & B16.5, API 570, 571, 574,
577, 578, 579 and 580 standards & recommended practices.
comprehensive programme notes, illustrated with practical examples, to use as
a reference
Competencies Emphasised
Delegates will enhance their competencies in the following areas:
Mechanical design of piping and pipelines in compliance with applicable
codes, standards, and regulations.
Engineering materials properties and selection criteria for specific
applications.
Identification and assessment of active degradation mechanisms and the
failures they may cause.
Hazard identification and risk analysis and management.
Application of risk-based methodologies in inspection and maintenance.
