Management software. While the WebSphere DataPower B2B Appliance
XB60 acts as a secure gateway for APIs, the API Management software
enables the client to quickly create, manage and monitor APIs on the cloud.
Using the new solutions, it can connect with partners in numerous industries
and unlock the value from its existing IT assets to develop new services.
Benefits: The client reports that the combination of the IBM API Management
software and the Bluemix platform not only enables IT agility but also fuels

Financing for the new software and appliance purchased. This helped the

Solution: The bank used the API Management software and WebSphere
DataPower Service Gateway XG45 appliance to manage, secure and enforce
APIs and to engage with the partner and developer community. It also used
the Integration Bus Standard software to form the foundational service-
oriented architecture (SOA) layer for the enterprise.

Need: The bank realized that by branching out into the digital transaction

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) while maintaining appropriate
security protocols.

Solution: The Systems Lab Services team helped the client construct a highly
scalable and reliable API infrastructure based on the IBM API Management

Benefits: The bank essentially extended its enterprise in a security-rich

Need: The client is in the middle of a transformation project adopting agile
methodologies and APIs help them in this initiative, although they need to
integrate with all the current SoRs based on Websphere Application Server
and Cobol/CICS/DB2 on a hosted or private cloud infrastructure
Why IBM?: The tech sales team at Spain helped a lot during the sales cycle.
This was the reason to win this opportunity at WW (together with the rest of
the players, like CTAs and sales reps) .
Solution: IBM deployed API Connect 5 for each geo configuring the
installations to support both public APIs and private/internal APIs (One
manager, two gateways). IBM also deployed their advanced developer portal
based on Drupal, supporting also two sites (internal | external/public). , and
having in mind Sandbox and Production environments for API consumers to
be integrated in the external portal site.
Benefits: With APIs, they became more agile internally, started to follow the
regulations as PSD2 and reach new market in API Economy concept. In a
medium period of time, they exposed business logic to third parties to
monitise their artifacts and business logic.

Solution: The client offers IBM API Management software to its customers to
use on-premises or through its cloud delivery platform. Inomera Research
made the solution, complemented by the IBM DataPower Gateway platform
and a monetization module developed by the client, as a complete platform
for selling APIs to external parties.
Benefits: Using the API management offering and the modularization
extension, the client enabled self-registration and onboarding processes for

Need: IBM was planning to develop a comprehensive Quote-to-Cash
application that would allow users to manage the pre-sales process, but that
would support multiple brands and a global audience. So, the client needed a
solution to rapidly provide new business capabilities. Finally, the company
needed to settle on a deployment model that would yield a lower total cost of
ownership (TCO) than a traditional, on-premises model.
Why IBM?: The Quote-to-Cash application complies with US and European
data privacy requirements, enabling organizations to protect their data and
avoid sanctions. Highly flexible, the Bluemix solutions enable the client to
deliver new capabilities to the application in days, which will help
accommodate the evolving business requirements of its users.
Solution: They built and deployed its Quote-to-Cash application on a hybrid
cloud with API Management software, which enables the application to
securely invoke the APIs of systems of record behind corporate firewalls.
Benefits: IBM reduces the total cost of ownership of its Quote-to-Cash
application by 22 percent and improves the efficiency of its sales lifecycle.

Need: The client wanted to expose product search and inventory levels via
API to aggregators via REST. They had SOAP based services that they
wanted to expose as REST using OAUTH as the security mechanism.
Why IBM?: Client had narrowed their choice to IBM and another vendor, and
originally the other vendor won. During implementation, the other vendor’s
team and their solution could not meet the client’s business requirements. So,
they went back to IBM.
Solution: While the DataPower® needs were going well, the overall project
was lagging behind when the other vendor could not meet the business
objectives. The Business partner executed a quick proof of concept to
demonstrate that IBM’s API Connect did meet client’s business requirements
quickly.
Benefits: The client was able to improve their standings with the aggregators
and improve their relative position. This lead to increased visibility and

in active-active mode (HA). Also, the client uses two physical DataPower®

Why IBM?: IBM’s delivery team has been providing quality services for many
years to Walmart, and earned Walmart’s confidence in their ability to deliver
for years to come.
Solution: Walmart created a cloud platform that’s driven by API Connect. The
platform gives developers on-demand access to the resources they need,
including infrastructure, storage, databases and web servers. The Walmart
cloud also helps the business scale to meet unpredictable spikes in demand.

development speed by a factor of four, and helping the company get new

Solution: It implemented IBM API Management V3 software to provide a
single point of exposure to its separately supported internal services and to
support migration to an API economy. The API Management software acts as
the main conduit for connecting everything, from third party applications to
native mobile applications and on to web applications.
Benefits: The client can now easily and securely connect its website to new
APIs, reducing cost and increasing accessibility. The solution also eliminated
the need to build a developer support infrastructure with centralized

mobile applications based on these data. API Connect will then propose a
portal to developers in order to describe the API and to socialize around the
available services.

API Connect™ reduces on-boarding process from
weeks to hours
Need: The need for an API Gateway was driven by a number of factors;
external factors such as clients requesting JSON APIs and the ability to
interact with documentation and APIs, internal factors such as the ability to
manage, migrate, throttle and analyze their clients whilst scaling the number
of APIs/consumers and also wishing to bring their on-boarding process to
more of a self-service model as demanded by the API Economy.

and scalability required, with an attractive commercial offer, and market-
leading security that allowed the client to explore cloud computing.
Solution: The client implemented IBM API Management V4 on Cloud
(BlueMix Public, London) (currently migrating to V5) to extend their IBM
Integration Bus and DataPower® existing integration.
Benefits: API Economy brings down the on-boarding process from weeks to
hours. Also, partner number has risen drastically up to few hundreds due to
the ability to manage and scale through the platform in turn increasing the
revenue.

with IBM API Connect™
Need: Newly implemented policies indicated that the client engages and sells
memberships to individuals than groups as done in the past, to advance
memberships. The client thus sought to refactor its member-facing application
and to build new Systems of Engagements (SoEs).
Why IBM?: The IBM® API Connect team along with the client teams devised
and shaped the solution to facilitate faster time to market for new applications
by providing integration and Presentation API's for developer consumption.
Solution: The client implemented a Node.js based presentation server that
can be leveraged by web and mobile applications providing UI specific data
aggregation and filtering from multiple API's. It also established an integration
API gateway to provide RESTful access to client System of Records (SoRs).
Benefits: With the implementation, the client achieved all round digital
transformation by providing its application teams with APIs for access to its
System of Records (SoRs) and presentation, resulting in faster time to market
on new applications. Additionally, the client is expected to migrate away from
substantial investments in Axway and Apigee.

application program interfaces (APIs).
Need: The client needed to provide its customers access to their information
through mobile channels, which triggered the company to look at ways to
expose and manage its application program interfaces (APIs).
Why IBM?: The client turned to IBM through a formal request for proposal
(RFP) process in the fourth quarter of 2015. The IBM team was awarded the
business for its IBM API Management solution and for having an
implementation approach that included estimates to perform the work.
Solution: The client engaged IBM API Management on cloud and IBM
DataPower® Gateway platform. The IBM team plans to develop and
document the solution design and then develop, build, deploy, and test the
API Management infrastructure. The team expects to develop and implement
APIs for the client’s app and the Mobile Health applications.
Benefits: With an IBM Application Program Interface Management solution,
the client’s customers will have access to their information via mobile
channels.

onsite POC validating that IBM's API Connect would meet the client’s
requirements, including the incorporation of their DataPower framework,
BizTalk, and .net services into a cohesive API Management solution leading
to negotiations for a deal
Solution: The client have a variety of applications they develop for their
business as well as partners that use these services and they were looking at
the opportunity of leveraging APIs and the API Economy to improve their
ability on the cloud to support their lines of business in partners and enable
them to deliver improved capabilities more quickly.
