announcementpostageandinvitations,businesscards,andmore.Whenacustomerviewsatemplateproductpage,alltheyhavetodoislloutoneormoresimple

eldstopersonalizetheproduct.ThentheycanclicktheAdd to Cartbuttontobuytheproduct.

ZazzleTemplateProductscanalsobeusedinconjunctionwiththeZazzleAPIallowingthe

How to Make a Template ProductThistutorialwillshowyouhowtocreatetheexampleproductabove.Ifyouhavecreatedproducts

onZazzlebefore,theprocessisthesame,withjustafewadditionalstepstodeneyourtemplate.

Youcanmakeaproductbecomeatemplatebysimplydeningwhichimage(s)ortextobject(s)

thebuyercanreplace.

1. Gotohttp://www.zazzle.com/createandchoosethetypeofproductyouwouldliketomake.In

thisexample,wewillselect“Men’sShirts”.2. Findthestyleofshirtyouwouldliketocreateandclickthe“Createonenow!”buttonbelowit.

Inthisexample,wewillchooseaBasicT-Shirt.

3. TheZazzleDesignToolappears,forthepurposesofthistutorial,youmayclickCancelonthe

GetStartedwindowthatappears.

4. Let’saddtheimagerst.PleaseclicktheAddImagesbutton.

5. AfteryouclickAddImagesyoumayeitherchoosetoSelectimagestouploadfromyour

computer,orchooseanimagefromyouZazzleaccount.Youmayneedtocreateanice

6. Theimagewillappearonyourshirt,andtheCustomizeItsectionofthepagewilldisplayarow

fortheimageyouhavejustadded.

7. Nowweneedtocongurethetemplateoptions.ClicktheAdvancedOptionsbutton,which

looks like gears.

8. Oneoftheadvancedoptionsisacheckboxlabeled“Makethisatemplateobject”.Checkthat

boxtodisplayalltheoptionsavailablefordeningthistemplateimageplaceholder.

There are 4 options

•Product page label-Thisisthelabelthatthecustomerwillseeontheproductpage.Use

somethingdescriptivehere,like“Yourpicture”or“Yourlogo”.

•URL parameter name-IfyouareusingtheZazzleAPItopassdatatothisproductfroman

externalsource,thisistheparameternametheAPIwilluse.Avoidspacesorspecial

characters.YoucansafelyignorethiseldifyouarenotworkingwiththeAPI.

• Inner ft/fll mode-Ifyourtemplateallowsthebuyertoreplaceyourplaceholderimagewithoneofherown,thissettingdetermineshowthebuyer’simagereplacesyours.Theoptions

arenone,t,orll.

none-IfyousetInnert/llmodetonone,thebuyer’simagesimplyreplacesyour

placeholderimage,andmaybelargerorsmallerthantheplaceholder.

ft-Selectingtwillresizethebuyer’simagetotinsideofyourplaceholderimage

object’sdimensions.Thiswillensurethattheirimageisnotcropped,butcouldresultin

borders,or“letterboxing”toappeararoundyourimagethecoloroftheproduct

background.

fll-Selectingllwillresizetheirimagetolltheentiredimensionsofyourplaceholder

image.Ifthebuyer’simageiswiderortallerthanyourplaceholder,thismayresultin zoomingandcroppingofthecustomer’simage.

•Allow editing on product page-Keepthischeckedifyouwanttoenablethecustomerto

changetheimageontheproductpage.Uncheckingthisoptionisusuallyonlydonewhen

workingwiththeZazzleAPIifyoudonotwishtoallowthecustomertopersonalizethe

productafterlinkingover.

Template Tips• Whencreatingimageplaceholders,thinkaboutmakingtheimagecontaintextthatsays “YOURIMAGEHERE”or“YOURLOGOHERE”.Designabunchofdifferentimage

placeholders for different sizes.

• Keeptheproductpagetemplatelabelsshortbutdescriptive.Usewordsthatdescribewhat

informationyouwanttheusertollout,like“Yourname”,“Bride’sname”,“Date”,etc.

• Whenpostingforsale,addtheword“template”inthetitle,description,ortagssoit’seasyfor

userstondtemplateproducts.

Templates for Embroidered ProductsCreatingatemplateforembroideredproductsisverysimilartomakingatemplateforprintproducts.Thereare,however,acoupleofkeydifferences.

1. You cannot make an embroidered image into a template object.Theimagesonan

embroideredproductrepresentaxedphysicalsizeandstitcharrangement,makingthempoo

candidatesforcustomersubstitution.

2. Text can cause boundary and overlapping issues.TextCANbemadeintoatemplate

object,butdoingsoraisesthepossibilitythatwemaynotbeabletomanufactureyourproduct,

duetooverlappingtextorboundaryissues.See examples below.

Inthisexample,texthasbeenreplacedwithmuchlongertextthatendsupbeingtoobigforthe

design area.




Whenthisoccurs,theproductcannotbemanufactured,andthebuyerwillseeawarningiconnext

totheAddtocartbutton,likethis:

Overlapping textItisalsopossiblefortexttooverlap,againmakingitimpossibletomanufactureproperly.The

customerwillseethesamewarningiconasaboveandhavetheopportunitytoxthetext.



Locking ObjectsUnder“Advancedoptions”foranyobject,youwillseeacheckboxlabeled“Lockobject(s)”

Advanced Options – Lock object(s)

Bycheckingthisoption,theimageortextobjectwillnotbecustomizablebyacustomerinthe

ZazzleDesignTool.Thismeansthatnoonewillbeabletochange,remove,resize,rotate,or

repositiontheobject.Allthoseoptionswillbedisabled.Pleasenotetheuserwillstillbeable

topersonalizetheobjectontheproductpageifthe“alloweditingontheproductpage”boxis

checked.
