Development Officer) - APNG Popon-
detta
It was ten years ago when
Anglicare Popondetta was
first established at Ururu
VCT Centre. From the
humble beginnings to to-
day, Anglicare Popondetta
has achieved a lot in
terms of community ser-
vice throughout Oro Prov-
ince. To celebrate APNG
Popondetta’s ten years, it
is amazing to work with
one of the first and longest
serving staff, mentor and
our current Branch Man-
ager Mr. Stephen
Raurela. As a stu-
dent ten years
ago he was a fre-
quent visitor to my
school to deliver
pamphlets of HIV
and I remember
my friends calling
him Mr. AIDS Man. Today
it is a privilege to work
along side him.
One of the highlights of
this year 2015 was the
introduction of MARPS
program to APNG Popon-
detta after the taker over
was the message from the
Director of Anglicare PNG
Inc Ms. Heni Meke at the

celebrates its ten years, it
would like to share a key
message to all its net-

throughout PNG; Efforts

nator APNG Popondetta.
The secret to literacy is
knowledge and skills. With
the acquisition of the essential
knowledge and skills, one is
enabled to use these tools towards his own
and his community’s development. To those
who say that solution to our problems lie
somewhere in the political arena, economical
arena, sports and recreational, the crime bills
or in the Health- care reform or public policy
–I say that the reality could not be more dif-
ferent. This is because the solutions are not
political. Politics is but a subset of a culture
Ms. Meke said Anglicare PNG Inc
has the experience, resource and
structure in place to deliver and wel-
comed the transition. “With the Wa-
bag experience I am con-
fident,” she said. Popon-
detta and Wabag are the
only two of the APNG’s
five centers in the coun-
try who are taking part in
the transition with Tigim
Laip PNG.
APNG Popondetta is
ready and looking forward
to work with the increase number of
clients the transition brings and is
confident to maintain, improve and
tackle challenges the future holds.
Adult Literacy a visible tool for a
realistic goal.
Anglicare PNG Inc began in 2000 as an initiative of
the Anglican Church of PNG. The aim was to reach
out and serve the community. The APNG Popondetta
was opened in 2006. The original objectives state that
APNG priorities included HIV/AIDS awareness and
counseling, drugs and alcohol education and rehabil-
itation, family life, youth, spiritual development, liter-
acy health and hygiene. Ten years later APNG
Popondetta has grown into one of the main players in
Oro Province’s fight against HIV and Aids and Adult
Education.

The two days workshop
run by visiting M& E
officer from Port Moresby
in the last week of Febru-
ary was an eye opener to the new staffs and
also a refresher to the existing staffs. It was
very interesting because Donors have their
expectations and M&E is very vital for re-
porting to be uniform in the branch to meet
the donor’s expectations. The visiting M&E
Officer emphasized that all Branch compo-
nents should create their own filing system
for safety pur-
poses apart
from the re-
ports compiled
and sent to
head office as a
Branch. The
agendas discussed in the workshop were very
vital for the branch. The participants were the
current staff members of APNG Popondetta
and the Peer Educators. With that we the
Oro team would like to thank Jacob APNG

Popondetta.
One of the most
important service
component for
APNG Popondet-
ta is the VCT sites at Ururu, Oro Bay
and Kokoda. The Team Leader Mr.
Allan Ragusa says that the team’s aim is
to see and make sure that the services
provided by the sites are up to standard
and quality inline with APNG’s Mission
Statement. Mr. Ragusa also stressed that
the Team VCT’s vision is to see that by
the end of this year all VCT files to be
converted in to electronic data format.
This the team believe will make the files
safe, confidential and more organized to
accommodate MARPS demand.
“Although there is space for little adjust-
ment to accommodate the client base but
otherwise we are ready to deliver,” he
said.

As the person in
charge of CCP pro-
grams in APNG Popondetta it is very
exciting because there is still a lot of
space to learn. My area of focus for last
year and this year has mainly been con-
centrated on HIV and Community De-
velopment (WASH). The planning for
the WASH program is already been
done and now we are into the imple-
mentation part of it. The first project is
the ventilated improved pipe for latrines
which will be constructed in all elemen-
tary schools in the Ifane Area . That’s

Editors’ Corner Dear Reader,
make sure staffs from all compo-
nents follow APNGs’ staff financial
manuals and procedures so APNG
auditors will clear our
branch at the end of the
work year. If this aim or
goal is achieved it will
be an important mile-
stone for the branch.
By Clayton Aaron-Accounts Officer APNG
Popondetta.
It is quite challenging in the work
of an accounts officer but very
satisfying when all tasks assigned
are completed. My day to day job
involve monitoring all compo-
nents budget allocated and mak-
ing sure all budgets are imple-
mented according to various com-
ponents’ annual activity plan. My
challenges most times are delay
in fundings for components and
email correspondence
down because of tech-
nical problems which
makes it complicated to
meet deadlines on giv-
en time. My aim for
this year 2015 is to
treasure your cordial relationship and see it
as the most important pillar of our organiza-
tion. Thank you so much, Oro!Oro!Oro Kai-
va!
It is with outmost pleasure
we bring to you this year’s
first of the four quarterly
newsletter issues for
APNG Popondetta. We
see it as our duty and are
delighted to inform and
communicate to our do-
nors, stakeholders, clients,
network, the community,
fans and the people of
Oro . Our success in the last
ten years is impossible with-
out your contribution either
direct or indirect, whichever
way be it, we are humbled to
say that it is worthwhile. We
hope that this issue will
bring you an insight of the
work progress of APNG
Popondetta this year. Apart

Branch Manager’s Remarks
Mentoring an Organisation to turn ten years is an
honour that needs to be directed to every individual
person who contributed and sacrificed to make it
their goal. I want to acknowledge all volunteers,
staff and management of Anglicare PNG Inc and
partners who committed their hearts to bringing
Anglicare Popondetta this far.
As the branch turned ten years old on the 28th of
February this year, the birth of a new look HIV &
STI approach with MARPS has been entrusted to
Anglicare Popondetta. This is a challenge in many
ways, but through the eyes of maturity the MARPS
program is an image of trust and confidence that
Anglicare Popondetta is capable in ensuring the
MARPS are well taken care off.
To all volunteers , staff and management of Angli-
care Papua New Guinea Inc and all our partners
and stakeholders, thank you for this achievement,
you are all specially called for this purpose, from
whatever aspect you are gifted in , together as a
team, Anglicare PNG’s mission and vision will be
achieved.
May the good Lord Jesus Christ Bless you all.
