DESCRIPTION

Apparatus Media Lab is a brand communication and interactive design studio headquartered in Bangalore, India with successful client engagements in India, USA, UK and New Zealand. Our team consists of Information Architects, Instructional Designers, Visual Designers, Content Designers and Delivery Managers.

2003

Incorporation

In June 2003 we incorporated Apparatus with three employees and two projects - Brand design and website for Adea and Biocon. Borrowed seats and 800X600

2006

Big names as clients

We got listed as preferred vendor for digital brand communication and user experience with Yahoo!, Infosys and Dell. It still continues.

We also worked with Titan and Tanishq on brand websites.

Strategic Partnership - Gage, Minneapolis, MN to create online assets for brands.

2008Design for new technologies

The arrival of web2.0 and the rebirth of web startups brought us work from valley. The biggest was UGenie.com a bundle deal store that got acquired by Lulu.com.

A team of three from Apparatus were finalists and attended the 24 hour webdesign marathon at Limoge, France.

Apparatus Timeline

2004

Expansion and Visibility

Instructional design projects that included an online comic book that teaches export regulations for corporate employees.

A coffee table book and Kingfisher swimsuit calendar print/web increases visibility. Partners with Matrix promoters and presence in Mumbai.

2005

All good things continue and we all go on our second annual junket to make it a ritual.

Apparatus, Bangalore moved to a tree lined studio in Whitefield IT corridor in the outskirts. We still operate out of this charming cottage. It is quite a task keeping the clients off our premises.

2007

New brands and new partners

Brand refresh on Kaatizone, Cottonworld and HDIL add them as long term clients. We are engaged with them on web, social and print till today.

We designed the print and online editions of one of the largest vernacular newspaper in India - Sakshi, Hyderabad. This project earned us a strategic partnership with Garcia Media, Tampa, FL and a mentor - Dr. Mario Garcia.

Sakshi ran on for over two years till 2009.

2009

Domestic seems sweeter

Strategically flipped our market to domestic with a strong focus online branding.

The number one online brand communication for real estate and infrastructure firms with HDIL, GMR, Total Environment, UKN and Sobha. This clientele is growing.

Apparatus becomes the come to agency for web startups - Lifeblob, Chakpak, Commonfloor and Myntra.

2010

Social, Mobile and Cloud

Social media strategic partnership with Hodges Digital, Richmond, VA. We strategise, create facebook presence and blogs for large American brands/institutions.

The iOS devices were born and we worked on applications. Garcia Media strategic partnership extends to iPad publishing.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek reporter visits our offices. He features us as a firm to watchout for.

Prerelease partner with Adobe for DPS.

2011

Growth towards full-service

Two applications on iTunes store, Android heats up with an in-car device.

Indian ecommerce seems promising and we start getting projects.New client acquisitions in UK, Italy and USA.

Digital, creative and technology crossroad is a sweet spot in India. Global firms are showing interest and we are not making the first move.

In the near future, Apparatus will be a brand / user centric full service digital design firm with wider competencies and more studios in the Indian peninsular market.

The very fiber of NATURAL COMFORTCottonworld is a fashion retail brand that started as one little cult shop in Colaba in the 1980s with loyal customers since the eighties. It needed a new look attract more customers and create a boutique classic brand expression. The brand was extended to storefronts, websites and advertising.

The directives were to evolve the brand, taking it from a family-run garment brand to a professionally-run, pan-India fashion retail chain.

It needed to tune its personality to a contemporary and youthful feel while being classic and timeless.

Apparatus worked with a research team to understand brand perceptions as they stand today and re-define the target group, identifying the emotional drivers that make up the “Cottonworld mindset”.

The first step was to re-design the brand identifier, develop a new tagline, and design advertising that was in synch.

The brand identity was extended to the storefront signage, point of sale, visual merchandising, packaging and advertising.
