Brendan possess a well-rounded environmental background, having been involved in pre and post decision environmental management activities such as screening, GIS mapping, EIA, EMP, Construction Compliance Management and Auditing. Brendan is experienced in environmental compliance management as a result of having to plan, implement and enforce environmental requirements on construction sites. Brendan has primarily conducted consulting activities in and around KwaZulu Natal and as such is well versed in the specific regional requirements. Brendan has experience in project and client management, financial management and the compilation and costing of project proposals and tenders. Full time on-site environmental officer for the principal contractor (Ansaldo Energia S.p.A) at the Avon Peaking Power Plant project near Shakaskraal, Ballito. This was a R30bn Project with over 1000 on site staff.

Management and implementation of the full scope of works relating to the environmental compliance for Ansaldo Energia / Fata Consortium, the appointed EPC contractor.

The application of International standards required by the client and their funders (GDF Suez), as well as all National and Local Environmental regulations.

Full implementation of the Environmental Systems, Authorisation Requirements and EMP within a European Project Development Context.

Responsible for co-ordinating environmental compliance between the client, project ECO, department and various sub-contractors, on behalf of the principal contractor.

Conduct daily inspections of the site in order to ensure compliance with the EMP and ROD.

Compile reports on a daily basis indicating non-compliance issues. Liaising with the ECO with regards to environmental issues on-site, current and

future strategies and concerns, mitigation measures and compliance matters. Liaising with the HSSE manager, HSE officers, site and project manager

regarding environmental issues, anticipated future environmental concerns and assisting in decision making regarding environmental matters.

Liaising with contractors and sub-contractors regarding environmental compliance and matters on-site.

Chairing weekly HSE meetings, compiling and distributing minutes. Compiling, reviewing and providing input for management plans, method

worked for the Environmental Unit since 2012. Riana has 6 years’

experience in the environmental management field and 4 years’

experience as a wetland ecologist. She has worked with the

National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of

1998) and the associated regulations, the National Water Act, 1998

(Act No. 36 of 1998), as well as DWA Wetland Guidelines. Her key

function in the unit includes drafting Environmental Impact

Assessment Reports, Basic Assessment Reports, Environmental

Management Programmes, and Wetland Assessments. All of the

above functions require in depth communication with government

departments and well as the public.
