1.2Definition:

• Packaging is regarded by the consumer as asales unit and used for transport or storage untilthe goods are used

• Packaging can be designed as individual, multi-pack or range packaging variants

• Hella works with a clearly defined modulesystem for product and dispatch boxes. Thisshould preferably be used. See section 2.3

1.3General requirements:

• Specifications about the use and design ofpackaging/labels are generally made through theProduct Manager.

• Spare parts and wearing parts should be in Hella-G and Hella-D design. Packaging with advertisingstatements is subject to the requirements ofmanual HP-C-536.

• Depending on the size, weight and protection ofthe product to be packed, solid cardboard orcorrugated cardboard boxes are used.

• Weight and volume restrictions must be kept inline with the dimensions necessary to protect thepackaged goods and for marketing purposes

• The dimensions of sales packaging not suitablefor shipment may only exceed the interiordimensions of the largest dispatch boxes used byHella KGaA if the product geometry makes thisabsolutely necessary.

• Safe closure during transport and handlingthrough safety closure flap (no clips!)

• Uniform appearance in terms of colour.

• The packaging must have a Hella KGaA labelinc. Hella EAN code attached to it in accordancewith the current version of the packagingguideline.

In the case of multi-packs, the quantity given onthe label must be adapted

• Marking of "product origin". Made in………(country of origin) Hella norm N21028

• The country of origin specification on thepackaging and on the item must be identical.

• The marking of the "country of origin" is onlythrough the label. The packaging label must bekept neutral!

• Contract suppliers to Hella KGaA for boxes andbasic labels must be requested from thepurchasing function responsible!

11.1 Load carriers/ Dimensions and weights

The dimensions and weights below have to be kept. Load unit measurements must not beexceeded by packaged goods or load unit securing fittings.Load units integrate transport packaging and load units into transport and storage units

Load carrier::

Details in mm:

Basic dimensions Height Weightmm mm kg

Flat pallet Euro 800 x 1.200**** 1.240** 600Industry 1.000 x 1.200*** 1.240* 600

Exception:

* Deviations with special product geometry** (e.g. Beamsetters) Height up to 1,750 mm*** 1,000 mm x 1,200 mm,, Industry - Pallet dimensions (DIN EN 13698-2)**** 800 mm x 1,200 mm, Euro -- Pallet dimensions (DIN EN 13698-1)

Reusable flat pallet: Reusable flat pallets should preferably be used. These have to comply with DIN 15146 if it is possible to integrate thesupplier into the EURO pool system.

Disposable flat pallets: Are only permissible with special permission from Hella KGaA!!

Skeleton boxes: These are never permissible!!

Note:

• If a one-way pallet is made of wooden material, it has to be treated according to the IPPCstandard, ISPM No. 15.

• There is an obligation to declare all import deliveries packed on pallets from third countries.(Pallet material e.g. plywood, plastic or wood gassed) This regulation applies to all sea-freight deliveries. The supplier's dispatch documents for every delivery should besupplemented by details of the pallet materials used.

11. Load units

43

11.2 Load unit formation and security

11.2.1 General requirements::

• The basic dimension of the load units (800 mm x 1,200 mm or 1,000 mm x 1,200 mm)must not be exceeded by packaged goods and load units.

• Handling is performed by industrial trucks and automated conveying techniques.- The space between the pallet bases must therefore not be impaired when securing

the load unit e.g. by knotted stretch films.

• Load units must be secured in such a way that the transport packaging cannot slip duringtransport.

- This can be achieved by the use of:

- Intermediate layers (cardboard)- Shrink hoods- Plastic lashing straps (inc. edge protection strips, preferably

made of cardboard)

- Stretch films

• The removal of part of a load unit must not endanger the stability of the remaining quantity.

• Straps must not be allowed to cut into the cardboard boxes, this must be avoided by the use ofedge protection strips.

11.3 Marking the pallets

11.3.1 General requirements:

Marking of each packing unit with label I, 75 x 50 mm (824.008-18M)Marking of every load unit with the VDA goods tag (VDA 4902) (heed the respective currentstatus)

VDA goods tag (VDA 4902)Dimensions: 210 mm x 150 mm

The (VDA 4902) goods tag - standard in the German automotive and supplier industry - describesthe format for a generally valid transport label design in order to make goods transport and theexchange of data easier - for everyone in the supply chain.

In order to reduce paperwork, we urgently recommend using the EDI goods slip according toVDA recommendation 4912 instead of the delivery note according to DIN 4994.

11.3 Marking the pallets

11.3.2 Attachment of load unit marking

When attaching the VDA goods tag, the following must be heeded:

• Label must not become loose during loading and unloading.• Label must not project (e.g. use of 4 adhesive points, as otherwise there may be a

contour error on the transport track)• Do not attach the label to product boxes• Barcodes must not be covered by strapping• Labels must be able to be removed without residue (e.g. use of adhesive points)

VDA label on narrow side on the left(short side), as otherwise not legible on thetransport track.

Warning signs (mixed/heavy load unit) forunloaders must be positioned visibly on thebroad side on the right (long side) of theload.

If mixed containers (load units with packing units with different material numbers)cannot be avoided, they must be formed as follows:

If packing units are suitable in size

VDA goods tag S-label on eachpacking unit

VDA goods tag G-label on the load unit

If packing units too small

Several packing units with the same material number indispatch box, this marked with the VDA goods tag S-label
