Promoting the Cultural Treasure of Calligraphy

Mr. Pan Cing-zhongDB: Jul. 14, 1939Main accomplishments: A s t h e f o u n d i n g a n d i n c u m b e n t Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy Heritage Society, established in 2002, Mr. Pan has ded icated h imsel f to promot ing the cul tura l t reasure of calligraphy. From 2006 onwards, he has worked with Zhongshan District Office to organize the September 9th Exhibition on Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy with the aim of promoting respect for the elderly. In 2008, he was awarded as Social Education Teacher of the Year by the Department of Education of the Taipei City Government in acknowledgment of his contributions to the community. Mr. Pan has spared no effort in promoting and teaching cal l igraphy and therefore deserves this recognition.

A Torchbearer of Hand Puppet Theater

Mr. Chen Si-huangDB: Mar. 19, 1931Main accomplishments:Initiated and trained at a young age by his father, hand-puppet theater maestro LI Tian-lu, Mr. Chen has been performing and teaching hand-puppet theater in Taiwan and abroad since 1953. He became the founding Director of the Chen Si-huang Hand-Puppet Theater in 2009, and now presents a hand-puppet show at the Taipei Puppet Theater Museum. In 2009, he was appointed by the Council for Cultural Affairs as a Torchbearer of Important Traditional Art (aka Folk Art Maestro). His long-time dedication to teaching and promoting the traditional art of hand-puppet theater is t ru ly admi rab le and deserves th is recognition.

The Folk Art of Undivided Paper Cutting

Mdm. Chen Bi-fangDB: Sep. 09, 1933Main accomplishments: Ms. Chen came to know paper-cutting art during her 30-plus years of service as an elementary school teacher. Since retiring in 2000, she has been invited by the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission on exchange tours to teach paper-cutting at overseas Chinese schools in Hong Kong, London, the USA and Austria during the summer breaks. Moreover, she has taught paper-cutting in Xinyi and Songshan Districts, and has many times served as instructor of paper-cutting classes for elementary and secondary school teachers in Taipei Ci ty. Her commitment and contribution to folk-art education makes her deserving of this recognition.

God's Indigenous Gardener

Rev. Yen Jin-longDB: Oct. 01, 1952Main accomplishments:Currently serving as Senior Pastor of Taipei Church of God’s Love, Rev. Yen has been determined to improve living conditions for indigenous peoples in the urban area due to his personal experience of hardship in a similar situation. He relies on the power of faith and has developed a network of social welfare resources to help disadvantaged indigenous peoples in the city. Furthermore, he has attached g rea t impor tance to the academic performance and cultural heritage of indigenous children and teenagers with the aim of strengthening their sel f-identification. Rev. Yen has spared no effort in improving and promoting the quality of life for indigenous peoples in Ta ipe i C i t y and the re fo re i s mos t deserving of this recognition.
