Best Management Practices Guidebook for Hazardous Fuel Treatments Alameda County Supplement 1 Appendix Alameda County Supplement The following pages provide supplemental information providing an overview of federally protected species that call Alameda County home. Many of the species also live in Contra Costa County and further information on those species is found throughout the Best Management Practices Guidebook for Hazardous Fuel Treatments in Contra Costa County. The species list was generated in July 2012 by a formal request to US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to generate an official species list. This list is constantly updated as species are proposed, listed and delisted and is recommended for update every 90 days. The list includes all of the sensitive species that have been found in a certain area and also ones that may be affected by projects in the area (for example a fish that lives downstream or a bird that may migrate through the county). The official list was then compared to the list generated by the California Natural Diversity Data Base (CNDDB) Rarefind 4 on-line system. This allowed the list to include “special status species” and “State and/ or Federally Listed Species. Following you will find brief portraits of the species and maps indicating locations of the various vegetation communities and species. Note some species are particularly sensitive and while critical habitat is included their locations are not mapped. Diablo Fire Safe Council plans on continuing to develop further information on Best Management Practices for Hazardous Fuel Treatments specific to the species in Alameda County. Until that is completed, the information that can be found in Best Management Practices Guidebook for Hazardous Fuel Treatments in Contra Costa County can serve as a guide.
