Appendix A 1 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this appendix is to present detailed information about NORCOWE with respect to publications, the scientific staff and students, members of the governing bodies and financial statements. There is also a brief description of the web interface for OBLEX-F1 data and some screenshots from the interface. This interface makes it easy to extract lidar data and temperature profile data from OBLEX-F1. The data selection criteria are set by the user, and the data are formatted so that they are easy to use. Metadata are stored together with the measurement data. The publication lists from the Norwegian research institutions are extracted from CRIStin. The lists are thus not complete. This is partly because not all publications are registered in CRIStin and partly because some of the NORCOWE publications are not tagged with NORCOWE in CRIStin. The publications from Aalborg University are listed separately, because AAU is not using CRIStin. Governmental bodies The General Assembly (GA) is the ultimate decision-making body of NORCOWE.

The Board is the operative decision-making body for the execution of NORCOWE which shall report to and be accountable to the General Assembly.

The Host Institution Christian Michelsen Research is acting on behalf of the partners and the Consortium and is responsible for NORCOWE towards the Research Council of Norway.

The Centre Director is responsible for progress and cost control of NORCOWE according to approved work plans. The Centre Director is leading the Centre Management Group.

Work Package (WP) Leaders are managing the individual Work Packages and are members of the Centre Management Group.

The Centre Management Group (CMG) is consisting of the Centre Director and a management team including Work Package leaders, representatives from the Scientific Committee and other staff by appointment of the Centre Director for support in the day-to-day operation of NORCOWE.

The Scientific Committee (SC) focuses on education of PhD candidates, including the NORCOWE summer school. Two scientific committees have been active, an internal scientific committee (SC) with members from all scientific partners, some user partners, and a scientific advisory committee (SAC) with national and international experts.

The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) are involved in assessment of the work plans and coordination of NORCOWE’s work towards other major international research programs.

A commercialization committee (CIC) was operative 2009-2012. The Board: The board of NORCOWE has met quarterly throughout the centre’s lifetime. The board consists of representatives from the research partners and user partners, with the latter in majority. The Research Council of Norway has an observer in the board.

9 NORCOWE OBLEX-F1 WEB PORTAL

• Measurement data from the OBLEX-F1 campaign is available to NORCOWE and collaborating scientific institutions and partners.

• Quality assures and integrates the existing storage solution for the large datasets collected by the NORCOWE measurement campaigns.

• The web interface allows the user to select data by instrumentation and time period, and offers to apply filtering criteria such as wind speed, direction, dispersion, scanning range, altitude, time, or temperature.

• The extracted output files are in netCDF format. The format makes it easy to import the data into a number of analysis tools for validation and further processing.

• Has established procedures for converting various future raw measurement data files into one efficient common data format, which also verifies consistency of the data in the process.

9.1 NORCOWE OBLEX-F1 campaign

The OBLEX-F1 (Offshore Boundary-Layer Experiment at FINO1) took place between May 2015 and September 2016 at the German research platform FINO1. The research platform is located in the German sector of the North Sea, approximately 45 km off the German island Borkum.

9.2 Measurement data

9.3 Lidar WLS100S-34 and WLS100S-37

The two scanning lidar systems were installed inside the met-mast and on top of an additionally installed container, respectively. The lidar systems installed inside the met-mast performed PPI (Plan Position Indicator) scans and RHI (Range Height Indicator) scans towards the south-eastern part of the Alpaha Ventus wind farm. The second lidar system was installed on top of a 10-foot container, which was especially installed between the met-mast and the FINO1 crane on the south east side of the platform for the OBLEX campaign. This lidar system performed both PPI and RHI towards the AV4 wind turbine, in addition to DBS (vertical wind profile) scans. Both lidar systems were located at 20 m and 25 m LAT.

9.4 Sonic anemometer data

The anemometers are of type Gill R3-100. The sampling frequency was set to 25Hz. The axis orientation was set to SPAR, i.e. U-velocity is in line with the main spar when viewed from above. The main SPAR (x-axis/ U-vel.) points out and away from the platform, i.e. towards SE, 135 deg. The U-vel and V-vel are negative when the wind is blowing towards the respective coordinate axes, and positive when the wind is aligned with the coordinate axes. The sonic anemometers were installed on two temporarily outward facing booms facing toward south-east (135 deg). The booms were attached to the railings at the platform deck (20 m LAT) and the round walk (15 m LAT). The measurement height of the sonic anemometers was 15.5 m LAT and 19.5 m LAT respectively. Note: The anemometer mounted at 20 m LAT is mounted upside-down. You have to multiply V and W by -1, i.e. U = U, V = -V, W = -W in order to rotate the sonic coordinate frame into an upraised frame. Sonic variables

• Time: UNIX EPOCH time [number of seconds elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC, Thursday, 1 January 1970, not counting leap seconds]

• Status-1, Status-2: Status address data o In normal operation, the anemometer output cycles through the status codes 01 - 06 at

each output sample. o If the anemometer detects an error then the status code 00 is displayed instead of the next

cyclic status code. o When the error is cleared, the status codes will continue to cycle from where they were

interrupted. o If the error is caused by a transducer pair failure then the error code is displayed until the

failure is rectified. o If the error is caused by a memory or PRT failure, then after 16 consecutive failed readings,

the error condition is reduced to the error code history status and the error cleared. • U-Wind Speed, V-Wind Speed, W-Wind Speed: 3D wind vector (m/s) • TSonic: Sonic temperature (Kelvin)

9.5 Radiometer data

The passive microwave radiometer was installed on top of FINO1 outermost generator container on the western corner of the platform. Note that this instrument performed passive measurements of incoming radiation in the K-band (22 – 31 GHz) and V-band (51 – 58 GHz) in order to obtain vertical profiles of temperature and humidity. The radiometer was installed at a height of 25m LAT.
