MISSION

Welcome to Applewood Books, publishers of America’s living past. Since we were founded in 1976, we have published over 5,000 works, of which we’ve sold over 25 million individual copies. Our mission is to build a picture of America and American culture through primary sources, to distribute them widely, and to provide a positive experience for all who come in contact with us. This mission has led us to publish a wide range of interesting books in our 34-year history.

Over the last two years, we have partnered with five publishers to make their books available to the broader market, as well. Now, Mystic Seaport, History Compass, Commonwealth Editions, Back Bay Press, and Boston Women’s Heritage Trail all are available from Applewood Books, giving our customers one place to go to find the best in historic and regional publishing.

Over the next two years, we will continue to publish to our mission. As the world of publish-ing evolves, as people have an opportunity to read and enjoy so many books from the past, online and in print, we cherish our role even more: to select and highlight those books that tell the American story.

This catalog represents our most popular selections, but it is by no means all we offer. Fortunately, our website is able to keep up with all the books we publish, as it gets updated daily. Come visit us at awb.com and search our currently available selections by subject, author, title, or key word.

Some things never change. As it has been for more than two decades, our catalog cover is made from an antique fruit label. Also, the titles are still organized chronologically by original publication date, more or less, though we have separated out some popular series for ease of use. We have a helpful index in the back, so that anyone interested in books by subject or title can get right to it. In the title index, we have also included some of our better-selling books that, for space reasons, could not be included in the printed catalog. Information about these other offerings can also be found on our website.

I hope you enjoy our offerings. We look forward to serving you this year and for many years to come. Let us know how we can make your Applewood experience even better.

Best,

Phil Zuckerman President

Who is Judy Bolton? The 38- volume Judy Bolton series was written during the 35 years from 1932 to 1967. It is one of the most successful and enduring girls’ series ever pub-lished. The Judy Bolton books are noted not only for their fine plots and thrilling stories, but also for their realism and their social com-mentary. Unlike most other series characters, Judy and her friends age and mature in the series and often deal with important social issues.
